This Memorial Day, as we gather with family and friends, it’s important not only to celebrate, but to remember those who gave their last full measure of devotion to the United States of America, the men and women who laid down their lives so that this nation, the last best hope on Earth, could endure and continue striving toward a more perfect union. Their sacrifice purchased freedoms many will never fully comprehend. They gave everything so future generations of Americans could live free. And in honoring them, we should also choose service. Service to our communities, service to one another, and service to this country, because it is honorable, and because we owe a debt to those who are no longer here to serve for themselves. I love this country more than anything. And I believe with all my heart that America is worth sacrificing for. Happy Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸

Protection against terror means the destruction of terrorists. And it is a guarantee that the 🇷🇺 evil state will never again have the opportunity to bring evil to 🇺🇦. The first meetings have already begun in London in the framework of the conference on Ukraine's recovery, which we have been preparing together with our 🇬🇧 friends. Discussions have already taken place in 🇨🇭 and 🇩🇪, in 🇫🇷 and 🇮🇹. There is work at various levels for our recovery. And we are directing this work in such a way that our reconstruction, our recovery will become not only construction projects, but also a global project of protection. A rebuilt Ukraine, a transformed Ukraine, a strengthened Ukraine is a carrier of security and a guarantor of security, it is protection against any form of 🇷🇺 terror and protection against any repetition of 🇷🇺 aggression. WILMETTE PUBLC COMMENT: This resident spoke last night during the Wilmette (Illinois) Village Board of Trustees meeting. He wants to cut down an old tree on his property that is causing damage to his sidewalk from the roots. It is a nuisance and a danger. The village now calls old trees “heritage trees” not in an effort to preserved trees but to charge new permit fees. The permit fee use to be $75 and quite often people don’t get permits. Most people only remove trees that are a hazard or might be in the way of a new construction of home addition. This resident was charge a $5000 permit tree to cut down a dying tree that was a nuisance and potential danger. The village has taken this as a CASH GRAB opportunity with mention of the direction of the new revenue source to section 8 & subsidized housing for connected developers. The village is also considering increasing demolition fees from $4500 to $20,000. I’m not sure but maybe there should be NO fees to improve your property. This resident who complained about the tree permit fees might had been a senior. So now the village trustees are talking about “affordable housing” for seniors yet they are increasing permit fees not to mention property tax increases for seniors, THIS IS NOT AFFORDABLE HOUSING. I received the 2025 Difference Day Honorary Title for Freedom of Expression from VUB & Université libre de Bruxelles. In my remarks / acceptance speech Before the rectors of both universities, academics, journalists, and human rights defenders, I used that moment not to celebrate, but to name contradictions. I was honored for speaking freely, while in Rwanda - the country I come from - those who dare to speak are silenced, imprisoned, exiled, or killed. I spoke the names that Kagame’s regime tries to erase like Kizito Mihigo, Innocent Bahati, Boniface Twagirimana, Diane Shima Diane Rwigara & John Williams Ntwali. These are not isolated tragedies / cases. They reflect a system built on fear, repression, and the elimination of dissent. I also reminded the audience that Kagame’s regime extends its violence beyond Rwanda’s borders into the Democratic Republic of Congo, where millions have died in conflicts fueled by Kigali’s direct involvement, documented by the United Nations and human rights groups. Rwanda is too often praised abroad as a “success story.” Clean streets and growth statistics are showcased while the prisons, disappearances, and wars are ignored. This is not stability - it is repression, marketed to the world. My message was clear: Donors must attach real human rights conditions to aid, Journalists must investigate disappearances and political prisoners, Universities must preserve testimonies and provide space to exiled scholars, Policymakers must stop enabling repression and confront it with action. This means that it is not only the existence of such programs that is important, but also the work of information campaigns to normalize them in society and create a new paradigm of upbringing. ◾️ More than 2,000 posts in July set a record since the start of the full-scale invasion. One of the most widely shared stories was the opening of infrastructure for drone 'competitions' in six kindergartens in Perm. ◾️ It's not only about Russian children. This notion is not only inaccurate but also undermines the political reality on the ground. Puntland is not a tribe, it is a functioning government. And the people of Puntland are justified in putting Puntland first because it is the only government that has consistently provided them with services, stability, and a sense of civic belonging. A government, by definition, is an institution that delivers essential services such as security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and public administration. It operates under a legal framework, often anchored in a constitution, and is staffed by institutions that enforce laws, collect revenue, and govern society. Puntland has fulfilled all of these functions. Since its founding in 1998, Puntland has operated with a constitution, a regional parliament, executive leadership, and a judiciary. It has established police forces, intelligence services, and military units that maintain peace in its territories. Puntland has built and operated public schools, hospitals, and administrative offices across its regions. These are the markers of a functioning government, not the features of a tribe. There is no tribe called Puntland. Rather, Puntland is a coalition of diverse communities and clans who voluntarily came together to build a regional authority in response to the collapse of Somalia’s central government. To describe Puntland as a tribe is to fundamentally misunderstand or deliberately distort the nature of its political structure. Tribes are kinship-based social formations; they do not have constitutions, flags, or formal governments that deliver public goods. Puntland is a political entity, a state government within the federal system of Somalia, that exists because it filled a vacuum created by the central state’s failure. That failure is not theoretical, it is lived and real. For decades, the Federal Government of Somalia has been unable to provide basic services to its citizens. It did not wait for Mogadishu to bring security, law, and order. Instead, it built those systems on its own, using local capacity, leadership, and popular support. While the international community debated Somalia’s future, Puntland created one for its people. This is why many Puntlanders identify with Puntland first. It is not out of tribalism or secessionist ambition but because Puntland is the government that has served them. Loyalty is earned through service and protection. National identity cannot be forced from above; it must emerge from the legitimacy and performance of institutions. For Puntlanders, Puntland is not only a region but also a source of security, education, opportunity, and governance. In this context, putting Puntland first is a rational, even patriotic, act. Critics who attempt to diminish Puntland’s role by labeling it a tribal entity are engaging in a harmful narrative. Today, our dear nation folds a flag and lowers its head in mourning as we bid final farewell to one of Nigeria’s towering sons, President Muhammadu Buhari. His passing has cast a long shadow across the land, stirring reflections on legacy, sacrifice, and the fleeting nature of power. It is an honour to be present in Daura, to stand shoulder to shoulder with his family, his kinsmen, and the Nigerian people as we commit him to Mother Earth. President Buhari and I often stood on opposite shores of the political river. Yet, death reminds us that what endures is not rivalry but humanity. In his own way, he bore the burden of leadership with unwavering will and served the country he so dearly loved with a sense of purpose shaped by his convictions. I join the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and indeed the nation, in mourning this irreparable loss.
