Dear Krishna Byre Gowda Sir, You would have seen the kind of positive response your 'free footpath' campaign has received. It has brought a new hope among Bangaloreans. Let this not be just a one day drive but a sustainable effort to keep our footpaths strictly for pedestrians. I would also urge you to explore pedestrian friendly streets wherever you are building new roads in the city. We have already done this with St Marks Road. We need many more. Also, every constituency must have a dedicated walkable street on the lines of Church Street. This will mean real quality change on the ground beyond headlines. Developed nations have created public spaces for their citizens, Bangalore a world-class city with educated leaders like you at helm too can achieve this

This is a moment of reckoning for Bangaloreans. If we don't support Krishna Byre Gowda now, we will lose any last hope of revival for the city. Bangalore's old charm was about its walkable streets and giant trees dotting the roads on both sides. Today it's a dream to find such footpaths and roads. The only way to make Bengaluru Great Again is to reclaim it's public spaces that has turned into garbage den. For the first time we have a politician not just talking about it but working towards making the city livable with dignity. We all must support unconditionally...

If there is just one thing India can do fast to improve quality of life- its footpaths. Not Multi crore flyovers, not 8 lane highways, just a simple 10 feet wide footpath everywhere. This is such a low hanging fruit, why can’t we do this. (Let’s figure out problem of encroachments later). We have the highest pedestrian population on earth but no footpaths… GHMC Commissioner GHMC #RoadSafety

There are many warriors battling it out to get these two-wheelers off the footpaths. Yet the habit doesn’t seem to be changing. This one is from Whitefield. Over the last few months, pedestrians have repeatedly had to confront such riders and ask them to move onto the road instead of riding on footpaths. Bravo to those pedestrians. 🙌 What is stopping ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಇಲಾಖೆ ,Transport Department Karnataka from raising the fine to ₹5,000 and cancelling licences for repeat offenders? Or should pedestrians start walking on the road instead? A differently-abled man is forced to ride his tricycle on the very edge of the footpath because it has been completely encroached upon by local vendors. While trying to squeeze through the narrow space, he loses balance and falls. This is the reality in India. Even footpaths are not safe or accessible for the people who actually need them the most. Encroachment everywhere, zero enforcement, and complete neglect of basic civic responsibility. A country that cannot even keep its footpaths clear for a differently-abled person should seriously question its claims of development. Sometimes it feels like nothing will ever change in this third-world chaos.

Looks like the real plan is to clear Hindus and hand over the footpath to their votebank. All of us initially backed Krishna Byre Gowda, but we feel betrayed now. This isn’t right at all. Hope Janata Dal Secular takes this up too.
