A common argument Sunnis make against those who uphold the Quran alone without Hadith is: How do you perform the Salat? Ironically, no single Sahih Hadith provides a complete detailed explanation of Salat from start to finish. Even compiling all the Hadith on the subject results in conflicting narrations. However, such a question from a Sunni is a red herring because even if the Salat were detailed in the Quran, the Sunnis still wouldn't follow it. For example, the Quran outlines ablution (wudu) in Q5:6, yet Sunni practice deviates from it. This shows that their line of questioning is just an excuse to abandon the Quran (Q 25:30, 2:170, 43:22-24). The fact is that the Salat is the most widely transmitted ritual in human history. It is more widely transmitted than even the Quran, as every Muslim in history learned the Salat, while not all memorized the entire Quran. So when God commands the believers to perform the Salat throughout the Quran, the expectation is that this is established knowledge. That said, the function of the Quran is to purify our religion; therefore, we use the Quran to remove the innovations and impurities that have found their way into this sacred duty. Most notably: 1. Salat must be dedicated to God alone (Q6:162), unlike Sunni practices that include the Prophet (e.g., Tirmidhi 2457). 2. Recitation should be in a moderate tone (Q17:110), not silent during noon and afternoon prayers as Sunnis practice. 3. The full Fateah, including the Basmalah, must be recited, which Sunnis omit. 4. The Shahada of God, the angels, and the knowledgeable is that there is no god beside God (Q 3:18), and this was the Shahadah of Muhammad (Q 47:19). Therefore, the Shahada should only include God and exclude the Prophet or others. 5. No other entities should be invoked during Salat (Q72:18–20); this eliminates calling upon the prophet or any other entities besides God. Like when Sunnis say: as-salāmu ʿalayka ʾayyuhā n-nabiyyu (Peace be upon you, O Prophet)
