Defensive rush tactic I’ve noticed deployed a bunch by the Habs: (1) Weakside D skates forward to match speed and angle off the puck carrier. (2) Strongside D backs up and slides toward non-puck carrier’s movement. Allows the D to skate forward to defend more

Looking at a few frames from D Wise and you can see the separation of the forward tank and escaping methane appears to generate an impulse that crushes the top of the lower tank leading to propellent mixing and ignition.

This type of goal makes coaches cream their pants. Look at this set face off play for the game winner winner earls on main chili chicken dinner. Let’s break it down: 👇 #1 starts with a face off win. Low to high. #2 D to D (spread the defense out) and find Scheifele who rolled off his check at the dot and found space on a wheel route behind the net to find open ice on the other side of the zone. (Dot width). Aka Get lost in space. Create confusion. #3 Morrissey distributes the puck back down to MS who then corrals the pill and surveys his options while getting his toe caps back down ice towards the net, at worst presenting as a shooting option himself. #4 And the key to this whole play? Offense away from the puck. Kyle Connor recognizes time and space and gets available for a one timer by putting himself in a shooting position leaving the slot and fanning out. Lastly, The NHL is all about finding the 2 on 1. Finding the one timer. This was poetry in motion and lost coverage from #Stlblues that cost them the game. - People’s breakdown

A small tip on making back and forward screen transitions feel a bit snappier and more natural. Use a shorter movement trajectory and apply the movement animation only to the upcoming screen, not the one that is leaving.

FLAT GHOST Simple and EXTREMELY effective. This is a STAPLE of Daigneault that I love. We call it ‘flat’. - screen is below the 3PT line with butt to the baseline - typically used in inverted or G2G actions - punishes a switch - great end of clock/end of game when switching is assumed - usually forces the D to put 2 on the ball, creating a 2 on 1 on the weakside Common mistakes: - setting the screen to high, pulling the pop out of range. Must be set ~ around the nail. - killing the dribble due to pressure Adding a 45 cut to this action really stretches the D and beats virtually any coverage. 🎥 Taylor Tucker
