Denzel Washington isn’t an awards contender for Highest 2 Lowest but that doesn’t change the fact that I really enjoyed this film & Denzel’s performance. Denzel turned 71 last week, but this was a sneaky-physical role from Washington, who’s asked to do a lot. I like this film.

Tony Scott’s remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 opened to mixed reviews but now that we have the benefit of hindsight, I think critics were too unfair. John Travolta nailed this role & Denzel Washington is once again outstanding. This is a damn good NYC film worth watching.

Denzel Washington starred in & directed The Great Debaters. I love this film. I adore it. I think Denzel & Forest Whitaker are excellent & I think this story is extremely relevant, which is based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College Texas. Good film

I didn’t initially love The Book of Eli when I first saw it in theaters, but after a few rewatches, I’ve really grown to appreciate Denzel Washington’s performance in this film. You start to see why Denzel took this role after multiple viewings. Gary Oldman is also fantastic here

Host: “You must be at that stage where it’s like you’re not reading scripts and auditioning, right?” Denzel Washington: “Haha, it’s been about 40 years for that. About 40 years, yeah. Gene Hackman & Denzel Washington were spectacular in Tony Scott’s Crimson Tide. Two brilliant actors & one brilliant filmmaker. This is ‘90s filmmaking of the highest order. I give Hackman a lot of credit for recognizing Denzel’s genius early on & embracing a younger star.

Denzel Washington turns 71 years old today. In the 150 years or so that cinema’s existed, Denzel is one of the art form’s greatest actors. This man transcends film. You could know nothing about movies- but you’d still know Denzel. I’m thankful to be alive at the same time as him.

Robert Duvall & Ray Liotta each starred in John Q alongside Denzel Washington. Folks, if this film came out today, it’d be a smash hit. I have no idea why ratings around this film aren’t higher- this is wildly entertaining. Duvall, Liotta, Denzel- they’re all exceptional here.
