Derek Jeter gets called overrated so often, that it’s quite literally made him underrated

Best defensive shortstop I ever saw on daily basis. For Tim McCarver too Phenomenal range to his right & into outfield (hardest play for infielder). Excellent coming in, and always heads up making big play at big time. Average to his left due to 6’3 height 5 Gold Gloves

That's a good way to put it. I thought he got too much credit for all the WS wins at the expense of Bernie, Posada, O'Neill and Pettite earlier, but now people don't seem to get how hard it is to play that long and that well at SS - prob deserved '99 MVP also

Anyone who calls Jeter overrated is just probably jealous because they know they're favourite SS will never make the plays Jeter made, I'd like to see one of today's SS attempt to recreate the play against Boston, man they'd be crying like a bitch and get put on the injury list

Far from overrated!! We’re talking about a 14 time All Star, 5 time World Series champion, World Series MVP, and the face of the most iconic franchise in baseball for two decades. He wasn’t just statistically solid, over 3,400 hits and a .310 career batting avg, he was clutch when it mattered. Postseason?? He showed up every time, earning the nickname Captain Clutch for a reason!! Those people who call him overrated are just haters!!

I think it’s because none of his numbers jump out throughout his career compared to like a rod. His best year was 1999 statistically by a longshot. But he was just consistently excellent , which is what makes him great. Even though he was never the best per say at his position
