Today, I had a warm and highly productive meeting with the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the Presidential Palace in Ankara. Our discussions focused on further strengthening the 🇸🇰🤝🇹🇷 Slovak–Turkish Strategic Partnership, which offers tremendous potential for both our countries. Our negotiating team delivered a report following meetings with the U.S. and Russian sides. They provided detailed updates on how the discussions unfolded and which particular points were most sensitive and which were constructive. Ukraine needs results, and one of the most important foundations for achieving lasting peace is effective security guarantees. Ukraine did not start this war; it is Russia that must bring it to an end. What matters is that our partners remain actively engaged, work for peace together and consider all realistic proposals. I thank the United States for the readiness to facilitate and assist. We have reviewed with the team the progress on draft documents essential for ending the war, as well as the prospects for possible new meetings in the near future. I believe more progress is needed. I have outlined our vision of the framework for further dialogue, and we work on the timeline for necessary steps. We will keep our European partners informed about the state of negotiations and the real prospects for the entire negotiation process.

Iran’s FM, Seyed Abbas Araghchi: After 8 turbulent months—during which we went through a war and all the other issues—resuming a process of dialogue is not simple. The deep mistrust that has developed during this period, on top of previous mistrust, is a serious challenge facing the negotiations. First, we must overcome this prevailing atmosphere of distrust. Only then can we design a new framework for dialogue that, so to speak, is capable of securing the interests of the Iranian people. Today, some constructive discussions took place in this regard. The views of both sides were heard, and it was agreed that the talks would continue. My assessment is that if this same approach and perspective continue on the part of the other side, we may be able, in future sessions, to reach an agreed framework for these negotiations and for the issues under discussion. However, I do not want to make any judgments at this stage. In my view, it was a good start and could lead to a positive continuation, but that will depend on the other side, and of course on decision-making in Tehran as well.

We value this visit on such a meaningful day, when we remember the Chornobyl disaster and the colossal solidarity and selflessness of our people, which made it possible to protect our country and our entire region, all of Europe and the world from an even greater radiation catastrophe. Today, Maia and I focused primarily on issues of security, our cross-border cooperation, the protection and development of infrastructure and energy, and we also had a very substantive discussion on our shared path toward the European Union. We are now working to ensure that all six clusters are opened as soon as possible and that EU membership becomes our shared success – for Ukraine, Moldova, and the entire European Union. Ukraine will continue to support Moldova on security issues – in particular with regard to the Transnistrian region. We are also ready to further develop our trilateral formats together with Romania. I personally thank Maia and all of Moldova for supporting Ukraine and for cooperation that strengthens our entire region.

It’s deeply disheartening that an RCMP Staff Sergeant has labeled traditional values as “extremist.” Differing viewpoints should not be demonized or dismissed outright. Healthy discourse is dependent on our ability to respect and engage with diverse beliefs. To label those standing up for family and community values as extremists risks eroding the foundations of open dialogue, and the freedom we rely on as a nation.
