Happy #Blocktober! Will be posting some gameplay and systems design from #GodOfWarRagnarok here! I got the amazing chance to work on so many little narrative moments across the game in #GodOfWarRagnarok. Lets look at the Train Align minigame moment today! James , while working on the level wanted to invoke the feeling of someone spotting you when parallel parking (lol) and so we did! We had to make sure the player always had the choice to agree/disagree with Atreus’ directions, while still maintaining a max time for the minigame. This led us to design it so the train actually started and ended in the same location 😉 in order to guarantee the number of moves the player could do (hence the camera angle). While this limited the steps, we still had to have unique game states for each time you visited those alignment locations. Can’t end this post without calling out the months and months of back and forth and amazing animation and tech help from Avery Adams to accomplish so many interdependent syncs!

Great simulation of the Ferrari Döner wing posted on LinkedIn by Dominik Bolasko. There are still some irregularities in this simulation, like the wing profiles being different than the actual Döner wing, but it looks to be one of the more accurate sims I have seen so far. One very interesting aspect of this simulation is the magnitude of the flow field disruption from the intermediate sail position. All DRS flaps naturally have a hysteresis with respect to flow recovery and attachment on flap closure. Hysteresis, in the simplest terms, is the difference in the value you get from the same device in one setting compared to another. In this case what we are looking at is the downforce the wing give you before opening, and after opening. So why would you have hysteresis? Well the flow will take some time to recover snd reattach after a big geometry change bringing back the full load (downforce) to the rear of the car for the braking zone. This exists for all cars that have a flap geometry change like this. However, the magnitude of the flow disruption can further delay this recovery causing the car to not re-establish the full load potential in the first phase of braking. So, I could certainly believe that the hysteresis for this type of wing would be greater than that of a conventional flap because of how much flow disturbance you have from that intermediate sail position. Meaning the rear of the Ferrari on initial braking could have some nervousness as the flow takes more time to re-attach and recover the load on the rear wing. In fact, this is exactly what Dominik found in his simulations (image 2). I did speak with someone with a team, and this was one aspect they indeed had considered as a negative to this design when they first saw it. It’s possible that’s part of what was being tested when they ran it during testing in Bahrain. Do you think we will see this wing again during the season?

Very excited to announce that at 12:20am on the 4th of July, Aalo achieved criticality on our first full-scale reactor. We cut it close, but we pulled it off!! Working towards this goal with such an incredible group of humans has been the most fulfilling period of my life. This moment has been three years in the making. Last year, Executive Order 14301 called for at least three new reactors to go critical before July 4th, 2026. As of late last Friday night, that goal has been surpassed! When the EO was announced, we immediately sat down to figure out what the most ambitious scope would be, while still being potentially achievable by July 4th. Some of the team proposed doing simplified designs with smaller fuel loads, or building in existing facilities. One thing was clear: We wouldn't have time to integrate a full-scale sodium heat-removal loop to bring the reactor to its full 30 MWt. So here’s where we landed: ➡️ We purchased the entire commercial-scale fuel load. This is enough fuel to operate at 30 MWt / 10 MWe for 3 years before refueling. To my knowledge, it’s the largest fuel load that’s been taken critical in the DOE pilot program, by far. ➡️ We built a full-scale reactor vessel in our factory, and loaded in our commercial graphite layout. All the dimensions, vessel thickness, and manufacturing techniques are essentially the same as we will use for the imminent commercial version. There will be a few minor tweaks for sodium flow and full-power, but nothing major. ➡️ We built an entirely new reactor facility at the Idaho National Lab. Building a building is easy. Building a new reactor facility comes with a mountain of paperwork, policies, operation and training procedures, security, instrumentation and control, and more. Zero-power criticality might seem like a small step, but I can tell you, going through the exercise of building a reactor and taking it to criticality has been extremely valuable. The learnings on regulatory, ops, manufacturing, supply chain, QA, economics, engineering, and design will accelerate our path through to the final iteration at full-power. America is blessed to have a recent Cambrian explosion of startups in nuclear, all going after different markets, technologies, and strategies. I’m excited that sodium, gas, salt, and new PWRs are all getting pushed forward once again. The best outcome for humanity is to have all these advance in parallel, as quickly as possible, while maintaining safety. To my knowledge, it’s the largest fuel load that’s been taken critical in the DOE pilot program, by far. ➡️ We built a full-scale reactor vessel in our factory, and loaded in our commercial graphite layout. All the dimensions, vessel thickness, and manufacturing techniques are essentially the same as we will use for the imminent commercial version. There will be a few minor tweaks for sodium flow and full-power, but nothing major. ➡️ We built an entirely new reactor facility at the Idaho National Lab. Building a building is easy. Building a new reactor facility comes with a mountain of paperwork, policies, operation and training procedures, security, instrumentation and control, and more. Zero-power criticality might seem like a small step, but I can tell you, going through the exercise of building a reactor and taking it to criticality has been extremely valuable. The learnings on regulatory, ops, manufacturing, supply chain, QA, economics, engineering, and design will accelerate our path through to the final iteration at full-power. America is blessed to have a recent Cambrian explosion of startups in nuclear, all going after different markets, technologies, and strategies. I’m excited that sodium, gas, salt, and new PWRs are all getting pushed forward once again. The best outcome for humanity is to have all these advance in parallel, as quickly as possible, while maintaining safety. VEO 2 by Google DeepMind : MY CHEAT SHEET Alright, so after 500h-ish spent on VEO and giving birth to both "Kitsune" and "Banished", tons of people asked for a making-of. Instead, I decided to give you what I actually know of VEO 2 to this day. Please share! it's made to be spread around! 1/ If you're not using a LLM (Gemini, ChatGPT, whatever), you're doing it wrong. VEO 2 currently has a sweet spot when it comes to prompt length: too short is poor, too long drops information, action, description etc. I did a lot of back and forth to find my sweet spot, but once I got in a place I thought felt right, I used a LLM to help me keep my structure, length, and help me draft actions. I would then spent an extensive amount of time tweaking, iterating, removing words, changing order, adding others, but the draft would come from a LLM and a conversation I built and trained to understand what my structure looked like, what was a success, or a failure. I would also share the prompts working well for further reference, and sharing the failures also for further reference. This would ensure my LLM conversation became a true companion. 2/ Structure, structure, structure Structure is important. Each recipe is different but same as any GenAI text-to something, it looks like the "higher on the prompt has more weight" rule applies. So, in my case I would start by describing the aesthetics I am looking for, time of day, colors, mood, then move to camera, subject, action, and all the rest. Once again, you might have a different experience but what is important is to stick to whatever structure you have as you move forward. Keeping it organized also makes it easier to edit later. 3/ Only describe what you see in the frame If you have a character you want to keep consistent, but you want a close-up on the face for example, your reflex will be to describe the character from head to toe and then mention you want a close-up...It's not that simple. If I tell VEO I want a face close-up but then proceed to describe the character's feet, the close-up mention will be dropped by VEO... Once again, the LLM can help you in this by giving it the instruction to only describe what is in the frame. 4/ Patience Well, it can get costly to be patient, but even if you repeat the same structure, sometimes changing one word can still throw the entire thing out and totally change the aesthetics of your scene. It is by nature extremely consistent if you conserve most words, but sometimes it happens. In those situations, trace your steps back and try to figure out which words are triggering a larger change. 5/ Documenting When I started "Kitsune" (and did the same for all others), the first thing I did was start a Figjam file so I could save the successful prompts and come back to them for future reference. Why Figjam? So I could also upload 1 to 4 generations from this prompt, and browse through them in the future. 6/ VEO is the Midjourney of video Currently, no text-to-video tool (Minimax being the closest behind) gave me a feeling I could provide strong art directions and actually get them. I have been a designer for nearly 20 years, and art direction to me has been one of the strongest foundations of most of my work. Dark, light, happy, sad, colorful or not, it doesn't matter as long as you have a point of view and please...have a point of view. Recently watched a great video about the slow death of art direction in film (link in comments) and oh boy, did VEO 2 deliver on giving me the feeling I was listened. Try starting your prompts with different kinds of medium (watercolor for example), the mood you are trying to achieve, the kind of lighting you want, the dust in the rays of light, etc... which gets me to the next one 7/ You can direct your colors in VEO It's as simple as mentioning the hues you want to have in the final result, in which quantity, and where. When I direct shots, I am constantly describing colors for two reasons: 1. Well, having a point of view and 2. reaching better consistency through text-to-video. If I have a strong and consistent mood but my character is slightly different because of text-to-video, the impact won't be dramatic because a strong art direction helps a lot with consistency. 8/ Describe your life away Some people asked me how I achieved a good consistency between shots knowing it's only text-to-video and the answer is simple: I describe my characters, their unique traits, their clothing, their haircut, etc..anything which could help someone visually impaired have a very precise mental representation of the subject. 9/ But don't describe too much either... It would be magical if you could stuff 3000 words in the window and have exactly what you asked for, right? Well, it turns out VEO is amazing with its prompt adherence, but there is always a moment where it starts dropping animations or visual elements when your prompt stretches for a tad too long. This actually happens way before the character limit allowed by VEO is reached, so don't overdo it, it's no use and will play against the results. For info, 200-250 words seems like a sweet spot! 10/ Natural movements but... VEO is great with natural movements and this is also one of the reasons why I used it so extensively: people walking don't walk in slow-motion. That being said, don't try to be too ambitious on some of the expected movements: multiple camera movements won't work, full 360 revolutions around a subject won't work, anime-style crazy camera movements won't work, etc... what it can do is already great, but there are still some limitations...

Hey NASA. Remember when CNN put out this news segment? Your UAP reps talked passionately about the stigma surrounding UFOs. They publicly advocated transparency on this UAP subject. They preached about how we should encourage the much needed scientific analysis of the UAP puzzle. Remember that? Well, I have a few tiny questions... because someone somewhere (a dude named Marcus) once said, "The impediment to action, advances action"... 1. It's been reported that NASA dodged participation in the recent UAP hearings? If true, was that due to the stigma your bold and brave organization might endure? Were you worried about losing funding - or credibility? I mean... participating in the hearing mighta given you a shit-ton (that's an official space-term for a fuck-ton) of cosmic "street cred" with the public. You know - credit with us - the citizens who pay annually to contribute to NASA's missions and explorations... for the good of humankind. So what would you need from us - to use our money - to help look at this UFO puzzle? 2. Is NASA indeed reorienting sensor platforms (with AI assisted algorithms) to capture high-fidelity imagery of UAP in transit? If not - is your (our) organization PLANNING to? If you have tasked assets to do this already - what altitudes and specific geo-locations on Earth or areas surrounding Earth (off-world) is NASA monitoring? Did you find anything "untraditional" or "exotic" or even "unknown"? Where would you send that data if you captured it? Can the public see the current data (which we funded) that's been acquired so far? Is it classified? Should it be classified if it's of public interest and concerns new discoveries of our natural ecosystem? And if classified - who gets to use that data and why... for what purpose? 3. Wait - also - doesn't the NRO have hardware utilized and the data analyzed by NGA? What did they discover? 5. Here's my overview as to why Robert Cosgrove stalling for months to get a protective order for Lindsey Gaetani's phone extraction (that Brian Tully leaked, unredacted, after only removing messages from Tully to Lindsey and from PI Kate Peter to Lindsey) is Aidan Kearney's strongest argument for Cosgrove's recusal. I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. I am a towel. TRANSCRIPT: Before Ms. Gaetani accused him of intentional misconduct, Mr. Cosgrove successfully fought to prevent the public release of embarrassing and private details from her personal life by seeking broad impoundment and protective orders. Anyway, the point is, that's in April. Tully doesn't even return Lindsey's call for like six days and then he's like, eh, meh. Of course he was like, meh, because he's a motherfucker, in my opinion. I mean, not lovingly. So anyway, this motherfucker goes about his business, doesn't give a fuck. Cosgrove doesn't do fucking shit until September of 2024. And he knows it. And everybody knows it. That motherfucker goes into court - oh, I get in a mood about this. That motherfucker goes into court in September of 2024 and fucking writes a handwritten fucking protective order, being like, oh, it's okay if Aiden keeps a copy of the phone and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. That was in front of Judge Squires Lee. That was the same day that Lindsey got sabotaged at the courthouse by a court clerk...no comment. I love most of those clerks. They're wonderful. I love the court officers. I don't like what happened that day. I don't like it at all. Anyway, so I go in there -- wait a minute, what were we talking about? Oh, right. I think I was watching court that day. I was either watching or there, and Lindsey is there and Tully's -- Cosgrove's there and Bradl's there. And Judge Squires Lee is like, ah, you know, go write the agreement. So Cosgrove and Bradl write it by hand and file it. Fucking bullshit. You know how I -- now I'm not saying Judge Squires Lee did anything wrong. I think the clerk kind of misled her because she was in the bag for Jen McCabe, which is a whole different story. But the point is, so the one thing that Judge Squires Lee did that made me realize that I think she caught on to the fact that the clerks fucked around was that Judge Squires Lee entered an order on the docket permanently allowing Lindsey to file pleadings. So anytime Lindsey could just go in and they'd be like, no - -Lindsey could be like, I have an order from Judge Squires Lee. It was the strangest thing. Anyway, so that kind of-- but I don't really know what to make of all that. Anyway, so it's bullshit though. That is wrong from Bederow. And I'll tell you why: because it wasn't until Lindsey made a motion, okay, about this protective order that Judge Krupp on December 27th, 2024, spanked Brian Tully and Robert Cosgrove and Aiden a little bit. And it was --I'm paraphrasing here, Judge did not say the word motherfucker-- and it was like you motherfuckers. You got to read that three-page order from Judge Krupp from December 27th. You want to say Robert Cosgrove --no, Mr. Bederow-- no. And what's weird is there's no reason to present it this way, okay? Because presenting it the way that is true to the factual record and in the way I just described buttresses your argument that Cosgrove was conflicted because he tried to let the phone extraction go unprotected for months. Hello? Feel like I'm fucking banging my head against the wall sometimes with these fucking lawyers. Sorry, I shouldn't add this coffee, I'm in a mood. The point is, no. That's wrong, factually. And the factual record makes your argument stronger. Oh my god. Oh my god. How can - how can you get it so wrong and hurt your own argument at the same time? If you're gonna get it fucking wrong, get it wrong because the truth hurts your argument. If you have the truth and if you have the facts on your side and the law on your side, you don't have to pound the table. Just state it correctly. Cosgrove sabotaged the attempts to get a protective order on the phone, and five months after the phone was released by Tully --mind you-- Cosgrove is delaying to protect Tully, because Tully edited the extraction because he wanted it to be released right when the first Karen Read trial started, so that all the Turtle Riders would focus on Lindsey. And I'll tell you, there's something to be said here. There's something to be said about how even Bederow doesn't get it. Because Cosgrove doing that—waiting months to do the first bullshit protective order, and then not doing anything to get Judge Krupp to issue a protective order—it was Lindsey who got Judge Krupp to do that. Well, it was Judge Krupp realizing, I think, what had happened. Judge Krupp, when he retires, I want to talk to him about that day. I want to be like, did you—how pissed were you when you realized that Tully did this on purpose? I'm dropping like, oh that went fine. Judge Krupp is a stern judge too. You know what, I'm gonna get on his bad side. If you're on his good side, you might get a smile and a little chuckle. And then he's right into it. If you're on his bad side, he will not let you talk.
