Do y’all like the old way or common core method doing math? I grew up with the old way but when my youngest went to school, we both struggled with the process. It’s applied in reading as well. Making something simple into something complicated is ridiculous to me.

@MonBreeden All by design to create chaos& confusion. Include the "new math" with senseless ideology, unproven, non-fact based science & history, mixed basic grammar& dummy-down standards which have produced a failed school system & a generation of illiterates.

@MonBreeden I agree100% with that.

@RickD_GK If it ain't broke don't fix it ..

@RickD_GK True statement. They need to go back.

@45johnmac That long way is ridiculous. I had no problem learning the first way back in elementary school in the late 60s.

@45johnmac Same here. The first time when my kid was in elementary school, I was like why are you doing this😂

@45johnmac I was subbing in elementary schools in the early 2000s when they were starting to change this and long division as well. That is all different than we learned it.

@HistorianUSA1 The teachers are required to teach them this way regardless of them agreeing with it. It’s fucking stupid and that’s why I left the education system

@Legacy411 Yall just homeschool your kids.

They're doing it intentionally, so your kids won't learn.

That’s just expanded form, it teaches the students to understand the value of each digit in it’s specific placement. For example a 2 in the tens place has a value of 20. Place value understanding is critical in mathematics. It explains why you move the one which has the value of 10 into the tens place. You were just taught memorizing the algorithm instead of understanding why you moved the one up.

@V_Lady2024 I'm old school

@V_Lady2024 Me too! And proud of it.

Old way is how it's supposed to be done on paper. The new way is how you do it in your head if you have any brains. If I see 57 + 25, then I automatically think 50 + 20 + 12. Bam. 82. If I do it on paper, then I always do it the old way. The old way should be taught in schools

@V_Lady2024 Definitely the old way! Like seriously what crackhead came up with the other one and why???

Turning something simple into something so overly complicated it doesn’t make sense was the entire point…it’s called equity. Cause blacks can’t do it nobody should be able to do it

This seems like the exact process Corrupt contractors use to turn a 2 hour job into a 10 hour job because they get paid by the hour. don't overcomplicate easy s***.

It’s like when they changed how to learn to read. Schools stopped teaching phonics and relied on memorizing (sight words)… until kids got older and the whole method proved to be 💯 wrong. Thank God I remember “hooked on phonics” - from commercial when I was younger - and did that with my daughter before pre-k and until 2nd grade. I’ll teach her real math now

Kiddo doing homework was confused. Showed her the old way. She got it right away. Finished quickly. Teacher marked it wrong. Answers were correct, the work was wrong. It’s ridiculous.

@TheEXECUTlONER_ Infuriating grift 🤦🏻♀️ They did intentionally to fill bad people’s pockets 🤬

I learned via the old way, and I prefer it that way. I also hate math but I understand most moderate math equations. Like I can understand enough to survive and do my taxes. If thy tried to teach me in this new way, I'd easily become math illiterate. Who got time to learn all that?

It's all to sell books and generate money for the shitty ran government schools

I am taking Calculus with kids that had common core math and they are lost. It’s sad, like learning how to read by memorizing words and never learning how to sound things out…. That only works for words you already know and makes you sound like an illiterate fool when you have to read aloud a word you have never seen. Common core is trash

@RealLPoslaiko It's ridiculous how these kids are taught not to mention the toll it takes on the parents when we were taught the normal way.

Then teachers ask why the parents aren’t helping with homework…because it doesn’t make sense to us!!! 🥴😆😆😆

@NobodymrRobert I get the concept, however, if they are teaching the basics of number early on, you do not need to complicate the simple math with all the brackets…..get rid of calculators in elementary and go back to basics

@1109Patricia Juicys want the next generations dumbed down. Easier to control. They wanted common core for the same reason. And don’t forget they used Robert Maxwell books for Gen X.

@CreasonJana I'm with you. The old way works perfectly.

We should be taught several ways more or less simultaneously -- for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Different ones click with different individuals. I tried teaching nephews octal math -- just like decimal... if you have no thumbs.😎

@LibOrNormal They are intentionally making people stupid. They do the same thing with reading they are teaching whole word rather than learning c-at and learning how different presets of words work. So pat, cat, hat, fat. If they knew the alphabet they could sound the words out. Now they

Showed my daughter the simple way we was taught she was mind blowned🤣🤣🤣 she tried using it in class, and got a minus for it. Its stupid

@45johnmac You can thank the CON MAN OBAMA FIR THIS…..nothing like trying my to confuse the kids …but that is his intention along with the democrats

@ValentinaElites Old way is 100 times better

I do it in my head plus minus is simple add the hundreds add the 10’s and lastly the “excess” gets added onto the previously calculated sum, it works this is similar but more convoluted.

They taught this prime number breakdown shit when I was in 6th grade bout 20 years ago all it does is confuse everyone

I think the idea is to teach children how to add/multiply based on groups for faster mental math at the expense of more complex written steps. It's elegant if you see it as 127+32=100+50+9 or 159. it only gets complicated in cases where you have a sum greater than 10 in one group

Team old school 🎒 2️⃣➕2️⃣🟰4️⃣

@Real_Ames You can thank Bill Gates for long math! My daughter is 26 and has been doing this her entire life. Absolutely insane!!!! 💯

@drinkonsaturday That's how I do it in my head with an added step

@RealLPoslaiko Overly complicated. The old way is much better.
