A lot of European cities still combine their sewage and stormwater in the same pipes. That’s why they need all these fancy little sediment buckets and traps. They’re trying to stop solid waste from clogging a system that’s already carrying shit. Meanwhile, most American cities separated storm and sanitary sewers decades ago. We use bigger pipes with deep sumps that don’t require someone to come empty a bucket every couple of weeks.

As he’s clearing a flood. American drainage systems have large enough pipes to handle some debris without clogging.

No. In the extremely rainy Pacific Northwest, a tiny clog-prone storm drain like that would never pass muster.

Except the fucking council never clean the buckets out so our streets still flood and then they push the "climate change" bullshit.

This is idiotic. European pipes are tiny and cant handle even small debris. Americans use coatser grates because out storm drain pipes are massive and cant handle even handle much larger debris. Both system will back up when clogged. You know this dope has never been to America

In the pacific northwest, our drains don't clog in the drain part. They clog when the grate gets covered with leaves or other debris.

If streets get flooded in the US, it's not because the drain is clogged but because there is too much water for the system to handle... think like tropical-storm-level water... but yes.. brilliant idea, let's make a drain that, during a tropical storm, you have to dump a bucket.

It’s not the contractor. It’s the public municipality that provides the specifications of what they want. And it’s 100% budget driven. Streets and roads in the US are paid for and maintained by public departs funded by tax dollars.

Storm drains in the US actually just use large sediment traps that the city will go clean out every once and again. You’re not that special
