Do not worry, I scanned the shit out of desktop mate BECAUSE of bonzai buddy. Its only guilty of being resource heavy... and coming with a crippling addiction to have more than one of them. ...now if only I could not have six of then up at once I just cooked a steak on my pc

I’m sure desktop mate itself is virus free. The mods for it however are a different story.
