Impact After Term | 12 : iTNT Hub — Laying the Foundation for Tamil Nadu's Deep Tech Ecosystem (Part 1) As global technology leadership increasingly shifts towards Artificial Intelligence and other Deep Tech sectors, Tamil Nadu recognised the need to move beyond traditional IT services and build an innovation ecosystem capable of transforming research, talent and technology into globally competitive enterprises. Recognising this opportunity and the immense potential of Tamil Nadu's highly skilled youth, Dr. Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR), as Minister for Finance and Human Resources Management, announced the establishment of the i-Tamil Nadu Technology (iTNT) Hub in the 2022–23 Budget with an allocation of ₹54.61 crore. The objective was to create a dedicated institutional platform that could accelerate Deep Tech innovation and entrepreneurship in the State. Launched by Hon'ble Chief Minister Thiru M.K.Stalin on 15 May 2023, iTNT Hub was established as India's first dedicated innovation platform focused on Deep Tech and Emerging Technologies. Through initiatives such as BEACON, PATHFINDER, iAccelerate and the JIGSAW innovation framework, the Hub brought together government, academia, industry, investors and startups while providing access to advanced infrastructure including Fab Labs, 3D Printing facilities, Industry 4.0 tools and specialised technology resources. In doing so, it helped connect research, industry and capital, enabling ideas to evolve into scalable products and enterprises. The impact has been substantial. iTNT Hub has supported more than 2,800 startups, connected nearly 7,000 researchers, facilitated partnerships with over 200 institutions, established collaborations with more than 80 incubation centres—including 20 international partnerships—and enabled over 10,000 entrepreneurs to benefit from its ecosystem. Beyond supporting startups, iTNT Hub has helped create the foundations of a statewide Deep Tech ecosystem. By strengthening the pathways from innovation to enterprise creation, it has positioned Tamil Nadu to compete in the technologies that will shape the future global economy. — Admin Team

Building a Skilled Maharashtra for a Stronger Future! Inaugurated the Nagpur Skill Centre today along with Hon Union Minister Nitin Gadkari ji. Established through the collaboration of AID and Tata, the centre will equip youth with industry-oriented skills and create a future-ready workforce. Under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji, skill development has become a national priority. Maharashtra is further strengthening this vision through a dedicated Skill Development Department, ensuring closer collaboration between the government, industry and educational institutions to enhance employability. The state's expanding healthcare, solar energy, EV and alternate fuel sectors are creating significant demand for skilled professionals. Maharashtra has become the first state to supply agricultural power through a 16,000 MW Agri Solar network, with 2000 solar feeders expected to generate demand for at least 50,000 trained solar technicians. To prepare youth for emerging industries, the state is partnering with the Tata Group and Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University to provide training ranging from basic skills to advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Quantum. More skill centres will be established across Maharashtra to support continuous upskilling. Approval has also been granted to establish a state-of-the-art Skill University in Nagpur. Impact After Term | 13 : iTNT Hub — Scaling Tamil Nadu's Deep Tech Ecosystem (Part 2) Establishing iTNT Hub was only the first step. The larger vision was to ensure that Tamil Nadu's emerging Deep Tech ecosystem extended beyond Chennai, enabling innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs across the State to participate in the technologies shaping the future. Under the leadership of Dr. PTR as Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, iTNT Hub expanded through regional centres in Tiruchirappalli, Madurai and Coimbatore. By bringing world-class infrastructure, mentoring, industry partnerships and access to investment closer to Tier-II and Tier-III cities, the initiative laid the foundation for a more decentralised innovation ecosystem. To strengthen early-stage Deep Tech entrepreneurship, the FOUNDATION Fund was launched, through which the first five startups received ₹53 lakh in seed funding. The Deep Tech Hardware Product Design Scheme further supported indigenous hardware innovation by providing grants of up to ₹15 lakh for product design and development. Recognising that innovation achieves its greatest value only when research reaches the marketplace, the Tamil Nadu Technology Transfer Facilitation Centre (TNTTFC) was established in July 2025. Through patent facilitation, IP management, Innovation Spotlight and the Research2Revenue programme, the initiative has already enabled more than 60 patent filings while helping researchers translate ideas into commercially viable technologies. Announced by Dr. PTR in the Legislative Assembly in June 2024 and successfully held on 30 July 2025, the Innovate in TN IP Conclave strengthened Tamil Nadu's intellectual property ecosystem. Bringing together organisations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Indian Patent Office, NASSCOM, C-DAC, Bosch and Mahindra & Mahindra, the conclave showcased 16 emerging technologies, facilitated four technology transfers to industry, and connected 44 researchers and startups with iTNT Hub's pre-incubation and acceleration programmes. During this period, iTNT Hub also expanded Tamil Nadu's global innovation network through collaborations with leading universities, research institutions and industry partners in India and abroad. Partnerships with organisations such as the University of Melbourne, Rutgers University, Bosch, Amazon Web Services, Rolls-Royce, C-DAC and others opened new opportunities for technology collaboration, industry engagement and global market access for startups. These initiatives culminated in the launch of the Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Startup Policy at UmagineTN 2026, providing the State with its first comprehensive policy framework dedicated to accelerating Deep Tech innovation, strengthening research commercialisation and building globally competitive technology enterprises. Together, these initiatives transformed iTNT Hub from an innovation platform into a comprehensive Deep Tech ecosystem—connecting research, entrepreneurship, industry, investment and public policy. In doing so, they strengthened Tamil Nadu's position as one of India's leading destinations for frontier technology and innovation. — Admin Team

Empowering Education, Advancing Healthcare! 🏥 Performed the Bhoomipujan of 'Centre of Excellence' and to inaugurate CHAKRA at MUHS, Nashik. A visit to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences campus was very nice. More than just infrastructure, it reflects thoughtful vision and purposeful planning — the kind that shapes the future of healthcare education. Marking 25 years of impactful contribution, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences has made medical education accessible across the State. A university’s growth goes beyond academics and curriculum — the world’s top institutions thrive as Centres of Excellence and Incubation, driving research, nurturing innovators, and shaping the future of their fields. Under the visionary leadership of Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji, the New Education Policy has positively transformed the way we view the education sector. It’s encouraging to see our universities now driving meaningful initiatives. Earlier, there was a gap between academic learning and job market needs; however, curriculum are being shaped with industry in mind. In this context, the 'Chakra' model based on the Hub and Spoke system, along with the concept of Centres of Excellence, holds great significance. We aim to enhance healthcare over the next 2 to 4 years, providing families with up to ₹5 lakh health insurance under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. We are working to ensure 50% of surgeries and treatments under this scheme occur within State-run institutions. Previously, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences partnered with the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur for a significant Tribal Health program. A Centre of Excellence, based on the Hub and Spoke model, now includes Tribal Health, Genetic Care, and Genetic Studies. As universities worldwide move towards self-reliance, India is expected to follow, making such initiatives vital. Efforts to drive positive change in healthcare through technology and startups are underway. At the 4th Founder’s Day Celebration of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, my lecture on ‘Nation Building: The Search for a Nigeria That Works for All’ also touched on the vital role of education in national development. Unlocking Nigeria’s full potential requires substantial investment in education and research, ensuring equitable access to quality learning for all. All levels of government must collaborate to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children, as education remains a fundamental driver of progress and social transformation. A crucial priority is shaping students into informed, patriotic citizens who understand both Nigeria and the global landscape. The curriculum must emphasize civic education, national consciousness, and entrepreneurial training to build a productive and innovative economy. Graduates should be globally competitive, proficient in information technology, and actively engaged in emerging global discussions, particularly in Artificial Intelligence. A strong research culture is essential, with scientific advancements closely linked to industry. To support this, the university should explore innovative funding strategies, including allocating a portion of internally generated revenue to research. Furthermore, UNIDEL should establish a consultancy unit in key fields such as engineering, environmental science, agriculture, and accounting to generate revenue and contribute to industry growth. Strengthening the “Town and Gown” relationship is also crucial, leveraging community partnerships for mutual benefit. By focusing on these strategic priorities, the University of Delta can solidify its position as a leader in higher education, making a lasting impact on its students, the economy, and the broader national development agenda.

Impact After Term | 16 : Transforming Madurai into a Regional Technology Hub Madurai has long stood as one of the world's oldest living cities and a symbol of Tamil civilisation. As the elected representative of Madurai Central, Dr. PTR believed that the city's future should be defined not only by its rich history, but also by technology, innovation and knowledge-based employment. As Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, he worked towards extending Tamil Nadu's IT growth beyond Chennai, with a special focus on transforming Madurai into a regional technology and innovation hub. This vision was pursued through a combination of institutional investments, industry partnerships and strategic interventions. Alongside the establishment of the iTNT Hub Regional Centre to nurture Deep Tech innovation in southern Tamil Nadu, sustained efforts attracted new technology companies, enabled existing firms to expand and strengthened Madurai's innovation ecosystem. Today, the Madurai ELCOT SEZ alone supports more than 4,000 IT jobs. Four landmark initiatives launched in February 2026 by then Hon'ble Chief Minister Thiru. M.K.Stalin reflected this broader transformation. Among them was the ₹150 crore Pinnacle Infotech Global Centre of Excellence at the Madurai ELCOT IT Park. Having already created nearly 1,500 local jobs after commencing operations in Madurai in 2023, the company chose the city for the next phase of its AI-enabled Building Information Modelling (BIM) operations—reflecting growing confidence in Madurai's talent pool and technology ecosystem. Complementing this, the ₹50 lakh HP Centre of Excellence was established at Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women through HP's CSR initiative in partnership with ICT Academy. The centre equips women students from Madurai and neighbouring districts with industry-ready digital skills, helping bridge the gap between education and employment while strengthening the talent pipeline for the region's expanding technology sector. Pinnacle Infotech also laid the foundation for Tamil Nadu's first dedicated women's residential campus within an IT Special Economic Zone, accommodating around 1,200 women professionals and creating the support infrastructure needed to encourage greater participation of women in the technology workforce. A long-standing land constraint that had limited industrial expansion was also addressed. When HCLTech sought to expand its operations in Madurai, the availability of suitable land had become a major challenge. Through Dr. PTR's intervention, underutilised land originally allotted to Honeywell was reclaimed and allotted to HCLTech through ELCOT, paving the way for a ₹150 crore expansion project on 2.41 acres at the Ilanthaikulam SEZ. The project is expected to create 1,000 additional technology jobs while transforming idle land into productive investment. Taken together, these initiatives have helped reshape Madurai's technology landscape. By bringing together global investment, skill development, women's participation and employment generation, they continue to create opportunities for thousands of young people across Madurai and southern Tamil Nadu—an impact that extends well beyond the tenure in which these initiatives were undertaken. — Admin Team
