BREAKING: In Minneapolis today, an ICE agent tried to force his way into the Ecuadorian consulate, a clear violation of international law, and was turned away by staff protecting people inside. Ecuador has filed a formal protest with the U.S. Embassy. We can’t let unchecked ICE aggression become the norm.

🚨BREAKING: ICE agents attempted to force their way into the Ecuadorian Consulate in Minneapolis. That is not a misunderstanding. That is a foreign government facility, protected under international law. In the video, a consulate staff member rushes to the door and clearly tells the agent he cannot enter. The agent responds by threatening him, saying, “If you touch me, I will take you.” Which is wild, because the staff member isn’t advancing… he’s standing in the doorway of a sovereign diplomatic building, doing his job. The staff member then says, “This is the consulate. This is a foreign government consulate. You cannot enter.” He then says, “Okay. Close the door, bye!” And locks it. Let’s be very clear about what just happened… ICE agents tried to unlawfully enter a foreign nation’s consulate, then threatened to arrest a foreign government employee for stopping them. That is a serious violation of international law, diplomatic norms, and basic sovereignty. It’s one thing to terrorize immigrants inside U.S. immigration courts… It’s another thing entirely to threaten another country’s citizens on their own sovereign ground. If a foreign government sent armed agents to a U.S. consulate and tried to abduct Americans… The U.S. would treat it as a hostile act.

A staffer at the Ecuadorian consulate in Minneapolis, Minnesota prevented an ICE agent from entering the building on Tuesday telling him, "you cannot enter here, this is a consulate." The ICE agent then threatened the worker who blocked the entrance with his body, saying "if you touch me, I will grab you" repeatedly. In a statement on Wednesday, DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said that "DHS has no record of ICE or Border Patrol being near this location." "We are continuing to check with other federal agencies that are on the ground to see if they had a presence at the consulate. We will continue to provide information as it becomes available," she said.

Was Ecuadorian activist Monika Silva murdered for exposing govt-cartel links? The Grayzone's Oscar Leon spoke with close colleagues and friends of Ecuadorian activist Monika Silva, whose killing has shocked the nation, and deepened questions about the government's ties to narco cartels. Monika Silva was one of Ecuador’s most tireless anti-corruption and environmental activists. On June 8, she was found dead in her home in Montañita, Ecuador. The government claims she was depressed, and had committed suicide. This was misleading at best. A recent postmortem investigation revealed that Silva had been killed by a blunt trauma to the head, and strangulation. In the months leading up to her death, Silva had repeatedly warned that her life was in danger. She also revealed that she had presented evidence to the US Embassy in Quito of Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa’s links to the international drug trade. Noboa happens to be a key Trump ally, a billionaire son of Miami, who is rapidly transforming Ecuador into a militarized bulwark of US control. Silva's killing, and the government’s deceptive statements about it, demonstrate the harsh reality that forced so many Ecuadorians into silence. It is not safe to investigate corruption in this country.
