I ported my #Gamecube game engine to PC, and even in its unoptimized state, it runs at 60 FPS with a minimum render distance of 64 chunks on my laptop -- double the maximum render distance of Minecraft: Java Edition. Powerful hardware won't be necessary for the game to run smoothly at long render distances. The PC port will streamline the debugging process, allowing for faster improvements across all platforms, including the Gamecube and #Dreamcast, and Wii. #indiegamedev #gamedev

I have something very special to share today! This is a hardware capture of maximqad's port of the Xash3D engine--which is compatible with the Half-Life engine--running on the Sega Dreamcast... ONLINE! Keep in mind this is EXTREMELY early in the days of the port, with no DC-specific graphics optimizations or hardware accelerated math routines yet, so performance still has a lot of room to drastically improve. Audio was literally just barely moved to the SPU for the first time just the other day too, so this is still all very incredibly new... ...but here it is! The engine that wouldn't even run without being on an emulator that also needed to emulate the extended 32MB RAM modification... now running on a stock Sega Dreamcast with online multiplayer connectivity and mouse and keyboard support! Fantastic work from maximqad! I really believe as this engine matures, it will be an incredibly powerful tool for Dreamcast developers and will potentially bring a lot of new software to the platform in the form of Half-Life engine mods!

This repack is now my favourite way to play Sega Rally 2, the Dreamcast/PC version always had superior content but came with other issues. This repack fixes basically all the issues I had with it and the optional reshade brightens the image, closer to the arcade version

The other day we made it easier to import custom assets into the build process when creating the final image of GTA3 for the Sega #Dreamcast... So what does our team's mad modder, Esppiral, do with it? LOADS THE XBOX MODELS AND TEXTURES ONTO A FREAKING DREAMCAST. Here's an actual hardware capture! I'm surprised his DC hasn't caught fire yet!

Just added wind in my voxel engine! Trees and plants now sway, which makes the world feel way less static. It's a simple effect, but seeing the forest move with the breeze adds a lot of life to the game. As much as I want this wind effect on the Dreamcast, I can't guarantee it. It may end up as a PC-exclusive perk.

Actual hardware capture of the latest build of jnmartin's #Doom 64 port to the Sega #Dreamcast, which has now become the definitive, prettiest way to enjoy the title, with its dynamic lighting and bump mapping. SO MUCH NEW SHIT TO TALK ABOUT: First of all, this is the very first game to utilize the brand new "hybrid" vertex submission mechanism we just added to KallistiOS. It was a long, cruel week to get all of the issues there sorted out, but they have been, and it has further boosted the game's performance while under load and is now something the rest of the DC community can utilize in their homebrew. This scene in particular used to lag using the traditional, DMA-based vertex submission mechanism with all of the lights and its higher geometric complexity, but notice it's not even dropping a frame now! Next, support for the Dreamcast's MOUSE and KEYBOARD have been added. These controls play EXTREMELY well and feel like a very smooth, natural way to play the game, if you want the Steam/PC control scheme. Finally... if there is any doubt as to whether the Dreamcast version is actually the definitive way to the play the game, jnmartin now allows you to export the assets from the (LEGALLY PURCHASED, DAMNIT!!!) Steam version, and import them into the Dreamcast version, where you can enjoy the extra bonus levels and campaign with the new and improved graphics! THIS IS NOW PUBLICLY AVAILABLE! It blows my mind that thanks to these dudes, I can play a classic like Gears of War 2 on my PC, non-emulated, 120fps on my ultrawide monitor with mouse and keyboard controls. I can't believe Xbox decided to not only remaster the first game, not just once, but twice! Instead of bringing Gears of War 2 and 3 to PC.

I've been mostly working on the internal systems lately for my #Dreamcast engine. The PC port gave me the debugging tools I needed to improve complex systems like the memory manager. • Audio is now working on the Dreamcast version • The renderer runs 20% faster on the Dreamcast • Heap allocation is 300% faster on average and 200% faster on worst case. While this had minimal impact on performance for the #Gamecube and PC versions, it was a significant bottleneck on the Dreamcast. • Increased real-time heap defragmentation throughput by using a new multi-regional heap structure, which also sets the foundation for DRAM bank-aware memory allocation. There's still plenty of room for more optimizations in Meese Engine. In fact, some optimizations found in Minecraft have yet to be implemented in this engine! #retrogamedev #indiegamedev

Sooo... How's our port of Sonic Mania to the Sega Dreamcast coming along!? SHE'S ALMOST DONE! We're getting ready for release!!! As you can see from these direct hardware captures, the game looks and runs amazingly on the DC! Multiple beta testers have now cleared the game on both Mania and Encore modes! Jnmartin worked his butt off finishing up the remaining effects, Michael Fadely is working on the final bit of polish, such as making sure the menu button icons show Dreamcast controller graphics, and I just opened a PR to put the gameplay code on the latest SH4ZAM commit... STAND BY FOR THE BLUE BLUR'S EPIC RETURN TO THE SEGA DREAMCAST!

As you already know, I’m developing SuperSolar for the Dreamcast alongside PC and Web targets, but ironically I don’t actually own a Dreamcast myself. Most of the development so far has been done through emulation, documentation, trial and error, and a lot of experimentation with raylib/GLdc rendering and optimization work. Due to some financial hiccups, I haven’t been able to purchase a Dreamcast yet, so yeah... maybe you guys can help. I need around 500 EUR/USD to put together a proper Dreamcast development/testing setup: console, ODE/burn setup, controllers, VMUs, cables, spare parts, and everything else needed to properly test on real hardware instead of relying entirely on emulators. I make games out of passion, and it’s not really my thing to ask for money on the internet, but I’d be eternally grateful if you could help. RTs appreciated. Donate here:
