Nagpur International Airport: A World-Class Project Becoming the Growth Engine of Vidarbha Glad to attend the Handing Over and Taking Over of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, from MIHAN India Limited to GMR Aero, along with Hon Union Minister Nitin Gadkari ji and Hon Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu ji. When new airports were being developed around the country, we decided that Nagpur airport also needed to be refurbished and expanded. Despite legacy issues, it is now embarking on a new chapter. Grateful to Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji for the cabinet decision approving the handover. This partnership brings in world-class expertise to unlock the airport's true potential. The integral part of this airport is that it is a passenger and cargo hub with two runways. The second runway has been a major driver of investment in this area, attracting major defence aviation manufacturing investment to Nagpur. The World Bank has identified Nagpur as one of India's fastest-growing cities over the coming decade, underscoring the city's rapid infrastructure-led growth and future potential. As the city evolves into a globally competitive urban centre through world-class infrastructure and planned development, every effort will be made to ensure that its growth journey is backed by the resources needed to realise this vision without interruption. A truly future-ready city, is built not only through modern infrastructure but also by empowering the people who sustain it every day. A clean city is the foundation of a healthy society, and the dedication of sanitation workers is at the heart of that vision. Strengthening the workforce that keeps our cities clean, appointment letters were handed over to 579 candidates, including 476 sanitation workers appointed under the Lad-Page Committee recommendations and 103 candidates recruited through the direct recruitment process. Nagpur has also become the first municipal corporation in Maharashtra to introduce a free housing scheme for sanitation workers, providing 300 sq. ft. homes free of cost, with the option to avail larger homes by paying the additional construction cost. These initiatives reflect a firm commitment not only to keeping our cities clean and healthy, but also to improving the quality of life, dignity and welfare of those who work tirelessly to make it possible. Building a Skilled Maharashtra for a Stronger Future! Inaugurated the Nagpur Skill Centre today along with Hon Union Minister Nitin Gadkari ji. Established through the collaboration of AID and Tata, the centre will equip youth with industry-oriented skills and create a future-ready workforce. Under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji, skill development has become a national priority. Maharashtra is further strengthening this vision through a dedicated Skill Development Department, ensuring closer collaboration between the government, industry and educational institutions to enhance employability. The state's expanding healthcare, solar energy, EV and alternate fuel sectors are creating significant demand for skilled professionals. Maharashtra has become the first state to supply agricultural power through a 16,000 MW Agri Solar network, with 2000 solar feeders expected to generate demand for at least 50,000 trained solar technicians. To prepare youth for emerging industries, the state is partnering with the Tata Group and Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University to provide training ranging from basic skills to advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Quantum. More skill centres will be established across Maharashtra to support continuous upskilling. Approval has also been granted to establish a state-of-the-art Skill University in Nagpur. The university will feature specialised schools in collaboration with leading corporates and expert institutions, ensuring students graduate with industry-ready skills and placement opportunities. With Nagpur and Vidarbha emerging as hubs for solar modules, EVs, coal gasification, carbon capture and steel manufacturing, the focus remains on creating a skilled local workforce. Maharashtra currently operates around 2500 Skill Development Centres, training nearly 4 lakh youth. According to the Skill India report, 75% of trainees have secured employment, with the target of increasing this to 90%. To further strengthen skill development initiatives, presided over the signing and exchange of an MoU between the Association of Industrial Development (AID) and the National Academy of Defence Production (NADP), Nagpur. This partnership will foster stronger industry-academia collaboration, promote innovation and experiential learning, support the MSME and vendor ecosystem, and develop a future-ready talent pool for the defence manufacturing sector. Another, faster Vande Bharat overnight sleeper will begin soon, in a couple of months. Thanking Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for launching the SMVT Bengaluru-Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus bi-weekly Express service today. This new train will improve regional connectivity and contribute to the economic growth of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Today, I also requested for a high-speed rail corridor on this route, via Davanagere & Hubballi, which would greatly reduce travel time and generate immense opportunities for people in the region.
