The American mind cannot comprehend

This has been standard in a lot of places of Europe for decades, there are even some in Latam I believe

All of Europe for 15 years

Same in many (most?) European countries. Pic here from Geneva, Switzerland, with containers for trash, compostables, plastic, glass, cardboard/paper, batteries, aluminum.

Amazingly, when New York paid Mckinsey to do a study on whether trash was better on the street or in bins, one of the slides was a case study on Amsterdam:

This should’ve been the NYC solution if they hired proper consultants

You couldn't do this in the USA because they would empty it and find out someone had stuffed an entire sofa in the can instead of paying the $15 to take it to the dump.

this is pretty standard tho? 😄

The trash is actually stored inside the concrete shell? No one can steal the bins now! Or it’s just hot swapping trash cans: “hey we need a new bin in the RL district again”

they have a canalboat version of this too!
