I sent separate letters to three companies—Maruti, Toyota, and Hero- which had stated in a government press conference that E-20 fuel will not cause any problem in older vehicles. I pointed out to these three companies specify in their owner's manuals that older vehicles should not use fuel with an ethanol content higher than E-10. So, I have asked them two questions: If the use of E-20 results in a mileage drop of more than five per cent or causes damage to any component, will compensation be provided? They should inform the public whether E20 can be used in automobiles made by them before 2023. If yes, then in case of mileage issues or damage to any component, will the company compensate for the loss?"

The E20 debate needs facts, not fear. In FY 2025–26, Maruti Suzuki serviced 2.84 crore vehicles, including over 1.5 crore older cars not originally E20-certified. No widespread engine damage, corrosion or component failure linked to E20 was reported. Hero MotoCorp’s service data showed the same trend. Yes, E20 may cause a limited mileage variation. But claims of 30–40% mileage loss or large-scale engine damage are not supported by field evidence. E20 is not an experiment. It is a tested, monitored and evidence-led policy that reduces crude oil dependence, strengthens energy security and supports Indian farmers. Questions are valid. Misinformation is not. India’s ethanol transition is a confident step towards greater self-reliance and a stronger national economy.

Tehseen Poonawalla is absolutely right & must be supported by everyone univocally on this issue. If you don’t support him, you risk your valuable vehicles which are at risk now. The forced E20 ethanol blending policy has become a textbook case of conflict of interest, lack of transparency, and disregard for the common citizen. How people of India are being treated as Guinea pigs for trials and how their only precious asset a 2,3 or 4 wheeler is risked is appalling, brazen and shames less and that to benefit Mr Gadkari’s son 😡 While Union Minister Nitin Gadkari aggressively pushes mandatory E20 — claiming it helps farmers and cuts imports — his own sons reportedly have direct business interests in ethanol distilleries that have seen massive revenue surges. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri defends it by comparing our daily drivers to racing cars and downplays mileage drops, engine wear, and the complete absence of consumer choice. This is unacceptable. Citizens have every right to choose between E20 and regular petrol. For example, if you look at it from the automotive sector, there is a lot of myth that if you use E20 blended fuel, vehicles will get damaged. It's a myth. It doesn't happen this way. There's a lot of myth about the amount of mileage loss or the fuel efficiency loss. Yes, there is some fuel efficiency loss, no doubt. But it is not so big as it is being made out to be...E85 and E100, that is, 85% ethanol and 100 % ethanol, are not meant for regular cars. It is meant for a different type of technology, which is called a flex fuel vehicle. This vehicle can take any mix of ethanol. So people need not worry. E20 is the standard fuel that will be available, and it is compatible with old vehicles and new vehicles. All vehicles sold after 1st of April 2023 are fully materially compliant with E20. And people need to be reassured that in 2021, before we went into E20, there was a very detailed scientific study done by the leading automobile testing agency in the country, which is ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). Most Indian vehicles aren’t even E20 compatible ..yet Nitin Gadkari ji is forcing 100% ethanol norms on us! We the people pay full price for our vehicles + we pay road taxes, insurance, tolls, GST on vehicles, parking, GST on spares, basically or lot of money for everything that one can think of! And yet in return we get Pathetic roads, mostly terrible infrastructure, traffic jams and now fuel that destroys the engines and kills mileage of our vehicles! Meanwhile we all know that most sugar mills owned by netas & their families and it is their linked companies that are minting crores from ethanol distilleries. Let's cut out the BS, this is a straight-up Ethanol Scam! And while we INDIANs have to pay a price & yet suffer, these netas profit and make money! There is now irrefutable evidence which shows that high corporate profits are a main driver of ongoing inflation. Companies continue to keep prices high even as their inflationary costs drop. Prices for consumers rose by 3.4% over the past year, but input costs for producers increased by just 1%. When business costs rise the cost is passed on in the blink of an eye. When their costs drop they do NOTHING. Corporations are enjoying windfall profits worth $billions as a direct result of their costs dropping while consumer costs remain static and in some cases increase. The imperative action needed is a significant windfall tax based on the difference between input costs plus a normal margin and current consumer costs. Businesses see every global shock like the pandemic or Russia invading Ukraine, as an opportunity to exploit consumers to increase their margins. As a direct result, the Fed increases interest rates and consumer prices remain high. It’s a lose lose for American families, as yet more money is stole from the bottom and the middle to feed the greed of the rich. This is not a conspiracy theory it is a simple fact. Action needs to be taken, otherwise NOTHING WILL CHANGE as everyday Americans pay for the private jets and yachts of the rich.

The imperative action needed is a significant windfall tax based on the difference between input costs plus a normal margin and current consumer costs. Businesses see every global shock like the pandemic or Russia invading Ukraine, as an opportunity to exploit consumers to increase their margins. As a direct result, the Fed increases interest rates and consumer prices remain high. It’s a lose lose for American families, as yet more money is stole from the bottom and the middle to feed the greed of the rich. This is not a conspiracy theory it is a simple fact. Action needs to be taken, otherwise NOTHING WILL CHANGE as everyday Americans pay for the private jets and yachts of the rich.

The automobile manufacturers, as well as the people who service these vehicles, all say there is no difficulty. Why this sudden interest? We have been using E15 (blend of 15% ethanol and 80% petrol) for the last three and a half years. We have been on E20 (blend of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol) since April of last year. From April 2025 to April 2026, it has already been one year, and we are now another five months beyond that. If someone is suggesting E25 (blend of 25% ethanol and 80% petrol), we have made it clear that we are conducting tests. Those tests will take time. Raised the serious concern of the challenges faced by our veteran Faujis in availing disability pensions, during Zero Hour in Parliament today. As a Fauji, it’s my view that bureaucratic hassles are an insult to the selfless service rendered by Faujis and their families. I urged the govt through the House to streamline procedures with a single-window system as well as to improve accountability for faster case resolution. A soldier is never off duty, and neither should be our duty to him - especially those whose lives have been affected forever in the line of duty. We can substitute 10% more petrol with ethanol, which can be easily done. It's being done in Brazil. So what our request is, start blending from 20-30% gradually. So 10% more ethanol can be consumed by Indian consumers. That is demand number one. Our second suggestion to the government is to commercialise the flex vehicles. Brazil has been running flex vehicles for many, many years. Many companies in India are ready with the prototype of flex vehicles... So they are ready to bring the prototype. But obviously, they will need some support from the government in terms of policy and maybe some tax relief... If you bring the flex vehicle in the country, two-wheelers and four-wheelers both... many vehicles will run on ethanol, no petrol required. The whole problem will be solved..."
