Mileage is the official fuel efficiency measured under standardized testing conditions, whereas average is the actual real-world fuel economy your vehicle delivers. Claimed mileage can vary, but what ultimately matters... to vehicle owners is the real-world average. The same question applies to E20 fuel. If it was tested in controlled laboratory conditions, where is the real-world testing? Which cars and bikes were tested over the long term, in different climates, terrains, and driving conditions? #WATCH | Delhi: On ethanol, Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President (Corporate Affairs and Governance) of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, says, "...I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about the fuel. For example, if you look at it from the automotive sector, there is a lot of myth that if you use E20 blended fuel, vehicles will get damaged. It's a myth. It doesn't happen this way. There's a lot of myth about the amount of mileage loss or the fuel efficiency loss. Yes, there is some fuel efficiency loss, no doubt. But it is not so big as it is being made out to be...E85 and E100, that is, 85% ethanol and 100 % ethanol, are not meant for regular cars. It is meant for a different type of technology, which is called a flex fuel vehicle. This vehicle can take any mix of ethanol. So people need not worry. E20 is the standard fuel that will be available, and it is compatible with old vehicles and new vehicles. All vehicles sold after 1st of April 2023 are fully materially compliant with E20. And people need to be reassured that in 2021, before we went into E20, there was a very detailed scientific study done by the leading automobile testing agency in the country, which is ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). It clearly established that the possible damage to cars and two wheelers which are old is not there. It's very insignificant. And it also established that the fuel efficiency loss is to the extent of 2 to 4 per cent, not significant." On ethanol, he says, "As per the latest statistics from the government, the program so far has helped save 1.9 trillion rupees. Out of that, 1,60,000 crores has gone to farmers. So in the case of India, it's not only helped us to in some way mitigate the energy crisis, but it's also helped us to help the farmers...The reason why not just India, but many other countries are doing it is for energy security, for the agrarian economy, as well as for fighting climate change and environmental purposes."

Julie Dabrusin claims (and is unchallenged by CBC) that “the world is going towards a low carbon economy”. But that isn’t true. Energy demand is higher than ever. Developing countries are increasing their fossil fuel use. Emissions globally continue to rise—if the world was shifting, none of that would be happening. What really seems to be the case, is not that Canada is going where the rest of the world is, but that Canada is going in alone… and our economy is suffering because of it—and then we’re telling our people, and the world that they must comply… or else.

Journalist: My car's mileage was 10 to 11 in city. After E20 petrol, the mileage has been reduced to 7. Nitin Gadkari: You can't calculate avg of your car by yourself. Only a machine can check your avg and only then I will believe that mileage of your car has reduced. I do understand that there are lots of misinformation and fake videos regarding E20 petrol. But Nitin Gadkari's stance that E20 Petrol is not affecting cars is absolutely laughable. Even if I assume that E20 Petrol is not harming E20 compliant cars but what about cars which are only E10 compliant. Nitin Gadkari has no idea about how much people are turning against him. The decision to rush E20 Petrol and impose it on everyone within such a short time is not looking good now.

Ethanol’s higher octane rating improves knock resistance and supports efficient combustion. For vehicles designed or calibrated for E20, the fuel is safe and compatible. It also supports lower emissions and reduces India’s dependence on imported crude oil. Ethanol-blended petrol has already been used across India for years. I have something in here to confirm it & they even mention what. This is the only real takeaway from Leave the World Behind and other similar predictive programming to it. The rest doesn't matter nearly as much because it is real and it was unleashed.

Mr Gadkari here’s the another example for you!! Sad to see a Defender being towed away! Having driven one, I can say these vehicles are extremely sensitive to fuel quality. Ethanol-blended fuel has only made things worse. Just like EVs suffer from poor charging infrastructure, premium fuel options like Speed and XP100 are almost non-existent in most hilly regions. Even before E20 fuel, Defenders would sometimes develop misfires and odd engine behavior on regular fuel; now the problem is even more noticeable. People spending ₹1.5 crore on a vehicle shouldn’t have to worry about whether the next fuel station will leave their car running properly or stranded on a flatbed. This is the result of poorly planned fuel policies introduced without ensuring proper infrastructure, fuel quality consistency, or real-world testing. Absolutely disappointing that a premium vehicle ends up being towed because the ecosystem around it isn’t ready! 😌

This world is exhausting. When you see the world for what it really is- the evil, the corruption, the lies- it is a heavy burden to carry around. And when your family, friends, coworkers don’t see the world like you do and think you are the crazy one, it can be tiring. This world is no longer the same, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I am so ready for Jesus to come back 🙌🏻

But claims of 30–40% mileage loss or large-scale engine damage are not supported by field evidence. E20 is not an experiment. It is a tested, monitored and evidence-led policy that reduces crude oil dependence, strengthens energy security and supports Indian farmers. Questions are valid. Misinformation is not. India’s ethanol transition is a confident step towards greater self-reliance and a stronger national economy.
