We are finalizing the rebuild of the Dominator 3 and Will Clay has put the science mission on his back! Check out this camera angle of the #tornado intercept with LocalMan Weather capturing the impact of the violent #tornado core. It spun the Dominator 3 while in park either 460 or 100 degrees. I thought we were airborne for a split second but the Dom3 did its job! Will Clay whipped up the air cannon with a direct hit on the first launch. Insane patience to wait until a half second before impact Watch the full video here:

On this day, three years ago, I intercepted this insane #tornado by drone and by rental car. This was a bit of a gamble on the forecast, since the moderate risk was to the north of southern Kansas, but I figured we would need the more westerly winds aloft to capitalize on the strong low-level shear. This supercell barely was able to remain surface based near the magic hour, but got over the hump and dropped a tornado quickly. This storm did not have a tornado warning at the time, but the local firefighters were watching the live stream here on Facebook and sounded the tornado sirens - likely saving countless lives. Never stop chasing

On this day, 27 years ago, we chased what is well-known as the strongest #tornado in History. This shows the F5 tornado near peak intensity, just after devastating the community of Bridge Creek, Oklahoma. Aa freshman meteorology students at OU, we stupidly abandoned our Geo Tracker and took shelter under an overpass. Research was published that overpasses can accelerate the tornadic wind and be even more dangerous. We then saw the terrible devastation in Moore, Oklahoma with horses wandering down the highway and people emerging from their destroyed homes. Over 50 people lost their lives from the May 3, 1999 tornado outbreak. There was another massive violent tornado with a supercell to the north near Mulhall, Oklahoma that peaked after sunset. The tornado outbreak was still going when I woke up for class the next morning at 7 am. This is a day that Oklahomans will never forget. Enjoy the nice weather this May 3,

$SPY $680–$685 is the line in the sand. A higher low from here would suggest a bottom is forming. A rejection at the 200MA confirms more downside. WE GOT DATA! Check out this first-ever 3-D data set of wind and thermodynamics from the ground up from inside a #tornado! With a peak wind of 131 mph measured above ground, and greater than 115 mph at ground level outside of suction vortices, it appears this tornado was at least an EF2. This data set sheds light on the 3-D structure of the dynamic pipe from ground through the vent, showing a high swirl ratio tornado here. The vent is the powerful updraft at the upper reaches of the dynamic pipe, the strength of which is proportional to the ceiling of the tornado cyclone below. We also computed a pressure perturbation with height, with two maximum deficits happening at launch and farther above ground in the dynamic pipe. Notice the little loop the parachute probe made at the backside of the #tornado at the same time as an RH decrease. We do not believe this is a subvortex here so far above ground. Israelis on the left and right are divided on many issues, but at least one thing unites them. The belief that Palestinians hate them and will continue to hate them, and that therefore they cannot be trusted. It’s not just Bibi. The majority, even on the left, are deeply sceptical. This is a tragedy. As Palestinians, we have the power to shatter this stereotype. To show Israelis that trust is possible, that coexistence isn’t a dream, that we don’t harbour any ill will. And once we do that, we will see those sentiments reciprocated. We need a reset. And honestly I don’t think it’s as difficult as people make out. Once we gain each other’s trust, we can move ahead with a political resolution that will end this conflict once and for all. We have a history, I’m well aware. But it needn’t determine our future.

Brock Bowers - huge update If you watched the play, you can see the defender hit his right knee, and the inside of his right knee buckled a little bit. What was lost in translation was that his left knee landed hard on the turf in a flexed position. Up until today, we knew that he was dealing with a knee injury, but no specifics. Now we have video of him practicing with a brace on his left knee. So essentially his right knee got lucky, but his left knee was actually the problem. He’s likely dealing with a grade one, mild, PCL sprain of the left knee. As a result, he is low risk for significant injury, and will play on Monday night and should not have any restrictions or dips in performance. For comparison, last year, Puka Nacua had a grade 2 moderate PCL spray. If Bowers were to land on this knee again in a flex position, there’s a possibility that happens. I’m excited to see Bowers’s play in a potential shootout against the Chargers on Monday night.

In the spring of 2008, I had the opportunity to chase storms with the Doppler on Wheels (DOW) and the Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV). Initially, I volunteered to support the DOW team, but plans shifted, and the TIV group ended up needing my help instead. My role was to assist a Discovery Channel cameraman in safely capturing footage of the TIV being struck by a tornado. The catch was, we wouldn't have an armor-plated vehicle. As scary as it sounded, I was thrilled. It was the perfect excuse to get closer to tornadoes than I ever imagined—and that's exactly what we did. And it couldn’t have been more fun! Here’s the first tornado we encountered from the prolific Glen Elder-Tipton, Kansas tornadic supercell on May 29th.

Excerpt from the NTSB Media Briefing on the Citation crash where NASCAR driver Greg Biffle lost his life, along with his family and three other victims. A few notes - At the time of the accident, there were Visual flight conditions - VFR - The plane did not have a black box and it was not required to have one. - The Citation jet involved in the crash was certified for single-pilot operations. However it was not possible to confirm whether there were one or two pilots on the flight. - Jet hit the ground before the runway, resumed "flying," then crashed again, exploding on the runway. - The plane came in low for landing, but it is still unclear whether it hit any obstacles before impacting the ground. Will be adding the link to the full media briefing later

With all the evidence mounting, mounting evidence of the risks that that entails, and once again, that is a fascinating thing to do but not exactly what you would recommend."
