LOOK at the rare capture of a descending vortex breakdown bubble in this Iowa #tornado yesterday! Similar to how tornadoes typically form, the tornado dissipation process is also usually a top-down evolution. The descending vortex breakdown bubble starts near the top of the dynamic pipe as a pocket of lower pressure, descending air. When tornadoes form, the dynamic pipe of lower pressure air drills toward the surface and condenses. Multiple this by -1 and you have a descending vortex breakdown bubble, or reverse dynamic pipe. RAW video of the air cannon launch into EF5-strength suction vortex on May 20 this year. I have finally analyzed the live data from the probe, which shows an ~80 mb drop from the Dominator, outside of the tornado, to the core of the tornado. A second dramatic dip in pressure is attributed purely to vertical velocity as the parachute probe lofts upward through the #tornado. I am working to estimate the height of the probe from our 2-3 camera angles, since the GPS failed. We are still working to recover this parachute probe!
