Eddington was missing from last night’s #CriticsChoiceAwards & it’s going to be missing from this Sunday’s #GoldenGlobes2026. There are only a handful of films released in ‘25 better than this, not to mention Joaquin Phoenix is excellent. Show this film some love, damn it!

Eddington is going to age like a fine wine. This is the exact sort of movie that people on Twitter are going to look back on in 2-5 years as a film ahead of its time. Joaquin Phoenix is better in Eddington than he was in Joker, which won him an Oscar. People need to put some respect on this film.

Eddington didn’t earn any #Oscar nominations today but I don’t think that came as a big surprise to many- at least not to me. Surprising or not, I still think this film deserved Oscar recognition & was one of the year’s best films. Not to mention Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding.

Widows is a damn good film that was totally overlooked by The Academy. I’ve been thinking about this film more lately because it’s one of Robert Duvall’s final films. I love this entire cast. Every actor in this film is excellent. And it’s a great Chicago movie. It deserved more.

The use of Val Kilmer’s likeness via AI in a newly released film really disappoints me. It’s not how I want to remember Kilmer. It’s not how I’m going to remember Kilmer. It’s moments/films like this from Val that are timeless. He was such a unique artist. He’s sorely missed.

Joaquin Phoenix gave one of the best performances of his career in Eddington. I expected him to receive awards recognition last year but it just didn’t happen for some bizarre reason. I think this is a great movie that actually tackled COVID with something to say. I enjoyed this.

I’m not going to lie to you guys, I saw The Artist once in theaters in 2011 & haven’t seen it, thought about it, or remembered it since. I have no clue how this film won Best Picture over Moneyball or Hugo. Are there big fans of this film out there? Am I missing something?

Disclosure Day is not a top tier Steven Spielberg film but it’s still an excellent movie & one of the better films of 2026. I feel like anytime I praise this movie, people bring up Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, or Jurassic Park in comparison. Who is saying Disclosure Day is as good as those films? Where are you hearing that? It’s a straw man argument used to discredit a quality film from Spielberg. Is it his best? No. Is it a damn good movie? Yes.

FIRST LOOK: Jumanji: Open World dropped its first trailer. The plot here is a reverse of past films: characters from Jumanji are trapped in the real world. I’m not going to lie, it’s unlikely this film will be added to my Letterboxd Watchlist because I think this franchise is overdoing it. I’m not here to yuck anyone’s yum, but this doesn’t seem very appealing.

Napoleon turned out to be one of the more disappointing films of the decade. I expected so much from this film - including from Joaquin Phoenix, who finally reunited with Ridley Scott after Gladiator. But this movie didn’t come anywhere near its full potential for a few reasons.

Moneyball has to be considered one of the best sports films of the 21st Century. This film gave us career-best performances from Brad Pitt & Jonah Hill, not to mention one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final roles. More than anything, Moneyball gave us moments like this.

Best in Show is one of the first “mockumentaries” I can ever remember seeing. Catherine O’Hara couldn’t be funnier in this film. It’s not possible. This entire cast is amazing & this film is a throwback to the early ‘00s. I’m really going to miss O’Hara. We lost a giant.

I find myself consistently revisiting The Master because of Philip Seymour Hoffman & Joaquin Phoenix. PTA’s filmmaking here is tremendous, but the performances are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Hoffman & Phoenix embody everything it means to be an actor in this film.

The Iron Claw is on Netflix & it’s a film you should watch if you haven’t yet. I’m not suggesting this film has high rewatch value- it’s a tough emotional journey. But the performances from this entire cast are too damn good to be ignored. This deserved #Oscar recognition.
