Just completed one of the longest flights I’ve flown. Haneda Airport, Tokyo to Heathrow Airport We were in the air for 14 hours 26 minutes in Airbus A350-1000 G-XWBF Planned distance flown 7042 nautical miles plus we did a bit extra with a couple of holds on arrival. It was such a long route that Flightradar24 struggled to cope on the screen so I had to move it slightly during playback! We started at 139° east, flew in a generally easterly direction for 221° and arrived just west of 0°. Quite a route 😄✈️

In a case of security breach, a 29-year-old man managed to enter the apron of the Puerto Montt El Tepual Airport (PMC) of Chile and positioned himself right in front of a LATAM A320 passenger plane to prevent it from taxiing. Minutes later he was arrested by a security guard and DGAC personnel, then handed over to the police, who will present him in the regional capital's Court tomorrow. #aircraft #airport

✈️ Air taxis take off in New York Joby Aviation has begun a week-long series of test flights for its electric air taxi in New York City, marking the first point-to-point eVTOL demonstrations in the city. The aircraft flew from JFK Airport to multiple Manhattan heliports, including Downtown Skyport and Midtown locations. Company officials called it a historic moment, noting it’s the first time an eVTOL has operated to and from a major regional airport. Just hopped off with Tim Stenovec & Carol Massar on Bloomberg. Lots of acronyms flying around with EIPP etc but the basic way to think about it is this is the industry’s Waymo moment. No one had any idea what those cars were when they arrived in cities, but they rolled out methodically and showed everyone they were safe/quiet/convenient/etc. Now they’re just a part of normal life. Air taxi flights will begin via eIPP later this year in a similar way (just a few, no passengers). Good chance to bring the public and cities along for the journey and build the muscle needed to operate at scale.

Over the past few months, our Midnight program has consistently delivered strong results. We're now routinely flying longer, faster & higher as we expand the aircraft’s operational envelope. Recent flights have exceeded 55 miles, more than 30 minutes of flight time, altitudes up to our 10,000-foot service ceiling, and speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour. These missions are providing valuable certification data, while closely mirroring the majority of mission profiles we expect in early urban deployment environments. Our next flight test phase with Midnight will be piloted VTOL, including full transition flights with our type certification intent four-blade aft propellers. Unlike the CTOL envelope that we are now close to completing testing on, the VTOL and transition flight regimes are not new for Midnight, as we have previously completed an extensive flight test campaign with Midnight without a pilot onboard. Our progression from non-piloted VTOL to piloted CTOL to piloted VTOL & CTOL campaigns is optimized for safety and disciplined execution that builds our readiness for commercial operations. The momentum continues to grow, and the team continues to deliver.

Marine One took off from the White House yesterday at 2:33pm, but air traffic at nearby Reagan National Airport didn't stop as required, leading the NTSB to consider investigating a possible loss of separation between aircraft. The FAA said controllers were in contact with both pilots throughout the incident, and the White House stressed the president was never in danger. The incident is raising questions because these safety protocols were put in place to prevent exactly this type of conflict after the deadly Reagan Airport crash earlier this year. | Peter Doocy
