Archer’s in‑house Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Lab is where we test Midnight’s mission‑critical systems to ensure they meet rigorous safety, emissions, and immunity requirements. From radar to communications networks, we simulate real-world stressors by exposing our engines, battery packs, power supplies and other important systems to severe electromagnetic environments while they’re operating to ensure performance is not impacted. This work validates that Midnight can fly safely and reliably in complex real-world electromagnetic conditions.

Midnight’s controls are innovative and simple, using two side sticks to control altitude, speed, and direction during flight. Think of it like manual vs automatic in cars. Because Midnight is fly-by-wire, software translates the pilot's movements with the sticks to automatically transition between flight modes, smoothly speed up or slow down, and hold the aircraft's position, airspeed, and direction. This allows pilots to focus more on the flight, not the mechanics of commanding several different control surfaces all at once.

We’ve entered the next phase of our flight test program, showcasing piloted Midnight flight, as well as CTOL capabilities. The piloted flight featured a conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) demonstrating the robustness of Midnight’s landing gear which is capable of performing both vertical and conventional take-off and landing operations. Through our design and certification process, our team, government regulators and our customers, both civil and defense, have identified the importance of being able to conduct both vertical and conventional take-off and landing as part of normal operation of the aircraft as having CTOL capabilities in addition to VTOL provides operational flexibility and enhanced safety. Watch the full flight as Midnight cruises at speeds of up to 125 mph and reaches a maximum altitude of over 1,500 feet above ground level with Archer Chief Test Pilot, Jeff Greenwood, at the controls.
