A train that runs right through the golf course. Sometimes you just know you are going to love a golf course before you step foot on the property. Royal Adelaide has been that place for years now. Now that l've played the golf holes, seen the train, had a drink on the patio with good lads, I can say that it's one of my favorite places in all of golf.

At 100 years old, WWII veteran Bernie Smoot still drives his convertible Ford Mustang to play golf five days a week, shoots in the low 80s and shares wisdom from 74 years in the game: “You live to play golf. But to reach my age, you play golf to live.” To celebrate Bernie — who landed at Omaha Beach just months after graduating high school — his PGA Coach and friend Jeff Maynor organized a tournament in his honor at the University of Maryland Golf Course, where Bernie plays five days a week. Maynor, the course’s PGA Director of Golf, has run a PGA HOPE program there for Veterans since 2019, which Bernie loves to support. The tournament for Bernie was a chance for those Veterans to thank him and celebrate his love for the game.

I’ve poked fun at Jim Nantz/CBS golf crew for over-dramatic montages commentary on The Masters/general golf scene over years. But was struck with emotion enduring this tribute to a gent few in general public knew, 31-year-old Bryce Adair. Beautifully done. Deep condolences.

How do you design a championship golf course that challenges elite players without making average golfers want to quit the game? On the latest episode of Designing Golf, Garrett Morrison caught up with Mike Cocking to hear how the OCM Golf team tackled this challenge with the redesign of Course 3 at Medinah Country Club.

Head of National Links Trust told me in April there isn’t space to build such a golf course at East Potomac. “There’s only about 200 acres of golf course here, and in order to host a major championship, you need at least 350 acres.” “It would cost an enormous amount of money”
