The primary problem with UBI is who issues it: The Government. When you depend wholly on government for income they can easily threaten to take it away to force you to comply. China is on this path now with social credit scores. This is a nightmare scenario.

Universal Basic Income is when an individual will be fully dependant on government. Do not accept a Universal Basic Income!

If everyone has a dollar a dollar isn't worth anything. UBI is a bartering scheme not an income.

If you removed ALL other social welfare programs and drastically cut foreign aid, you may be able to pay for something like this. I believe even Milton Friedman spoke of this being possible and viable.

What do you do when you want to control somebody? Give them money and make them reliant on you.

The amount of people that don’t understand the benefits of universal basic income is shocking.

Humans have a biological need to work whether they want to or not. Of course work is hard, but ultimately it is good and necessary for our long term health. We yearn to contribute to society. Plus, having a productive focus in our lives keeps us out of trouble.

Universal income via CBDC will turn into a dystopian social credit system.

Universal basic income for all except the elites who will own essentially everything… Who are “the elites” that believe they deserve to lord over us all?

Elon Musk expressed his perspective on the future of employment and the necessity of universal basic income (UBI) due to increasing automation. He highlighted the potential challenges posed by mass unemployment and predicted that as technology advances, fewer jobs will remain that robots cannot perform more effectively.

Elon Musk knows what he is talking about. We economists have been researching on this topic for a decade now. Because of automation it will be inevitable.

Who exactly will give the money and who will get it? It's just another welfare tax with a cool new name. Gov has no money, so the rich pay and the poor get, and we live happily ever after, because... This time socialism will work???

And once the robots are fully rolled out, they wont need a universal income because they will liquidate the useless eaters. Lest ye forget. 👇🏼

It might be helpful if @ElonMusk could find a suitable government somewhere that he can work with to build the first model of abundance and universal high income for the rest of the world to see and understand. President Milei of Argentina might be a good candidate.

It will be a bad solution, but probably the only one we can come up with, during the transition period until AI/robots/3D printing are advanced and widespread enough that everyone can have them. At that point not many companies will remain, as everyone can get the goods and services they need from their own machines. The coming decade will see a lot of turmoil before we get to an age of abundance.

If you extrapolate Elons' thesis to it's end, there is no need for flawed humans once AI is fully implemented. He is just referring to the initial impact.
