@RepGregSteube Walmart does the same thing in their IT department. They fire long-term Americans and use H-1B to import Indians to replace them.

@RepGregSteube i've lost my job and had to train my replacement. Can anyone have Trump explain to me logically how we need skilled engineers when the person getting fired has to train their replacement? They have to be trained because they don't have the skill.

Many people are overlooking a real alternative that corporations are actively using: The L-1--No lottery, no annual cap. Some large companies hire foreign workers work into their Canadian subisidiaries, let them work for a few years, and then transfer them to the U.S. on the L-1 visa. It is the same workaround built around the current system, just like the H-1B visa.

Companies are abusing the original intent of the H-1B Visa, which was to supplement the American workforce in skill areas completely lacking. Instead these companies are laying off highly skilled workers and hiring H-1B workers to pay less, get tax breaks and increase profit. All driven by Greed! 💰 Congress must pass a new law to end H-1B Visas. It is the only way to stop this abuse and restore Americans to the workforce.

@RepGregSteube when there's a shortage? employers lower the barrier to entry. they don't ask trick questions, they train internally and externally. none of the biggest users of h-1b labor do that. they all use trick questions. almost none offer external training. It's just wage suppression

While I agree. 9k foreigners did the work of 16k citizens? That’s sad. But worse as a business owner I can’t help but think the foreign employee won’t sue me when he has diabetes and hurts himself in my office by tripping while eating a doughnut. I HATE exporting jobs but we do have some issues to repair to make business owners want Americans.

The reason this is creating a problem is Americans have higher salary expectations because we expect a higher standard of living. In essence, we demand more than a broader labor market is willing to pay. So we price ourselves out of the job. Is protectionism the right answer? Maybe.
