the hardware was never the hard part. getting a venue manager to actually run the software day to day is. if heliumos can survive that, the network thesis starts looking real.

This info about META will BLOW YOUR MIND American “I worked in IT for like 13 years” “I learned a lot about data privacy — and social media and what apps are notoriously bad when it comes to data privacy. At the very top of the list, the worst offender, the worst app for data privacy is Facebook Messenger” “Let me just explain this to you. If you have Messenger on your phone and you don't have any other apps by Meta, you don't have Facebook, Instagram, threads, nothing. If the only thing from Meta you have on your phone is Messenger and you connect to a WiFi, Messenger makes a map of that Wi-Fi network. - It collects information about every single device that is connected to that network - So every phone, every computer, every tablet, every printer, every camera, every thermostat, every smart TV, every Roku device, and on every single one of those devices - They're collecting the name of the device, the IP address of the device, what type of device it is, whether or not your device has access to that device And this doesn't just happen on your home network, it happens on every Wi-Fi network you connect to. —- And it's a lot more information than just, oh, there's 200 devices connected to this network. No, it's detailed information about every single device. Like, here's a mobile device connected - it's an iPhone - It's titled Jeremy's iPhone - It's running iOS version blank blank - Its IP address is blank blank blank blank - Its MAC address or its hardware ID is blank blank blank But they also collect a crap ton of information from your actual phone. Like - The names, phone numbers, email addresses, and social links of literally everyone in your contacts. - Your location history - Your browsing history. - A detailed list of every single app that you've ever installed - YOUR PASSWORDS - YOUR FINGERPRINTS - YOUR FACE ID Spoiler alert, it's not. Downloading Messenger means that you consent to their terms of service. You give consent just by downloading the Messenger app. Using the service and downloading the app gives consent. Consent for your phone to be used as a data collection device. To collect data about every place you go and every person you're in contact with. — Messenger is easily the worst one”

$ASTS: 🚨🇳🇿 2DEGREES AND AST SPACEMOBILE TEST VOICE CALLS, VIDEO CALLS AND MOBILE BROADBAND DATA SESSIONS OVER STANDARD 4G AND 5G HANDSETS IN NEW ZEALAND DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST "HI MARK - IT'S MARK!" 😁 2degrees has opened a satellite ground station in Marton and completed voice-call and broadband data tests on standard smartphones through AST SpaceMobile's network. The facility is among the first commercial AST SpaceMobile ground stations worldwide and is intended to support the rollout of direct-to-device satellite mobile services in New Zealand. Paul Goldsmith, Minister for Media and Communications and Minister for Space, opened the site as 2degrees marked a new stage in its satellite connectivity programme. The Marton station will connect with 2degrees' core network and support voice, data and messaging services for users outside existing mobile coverage. Engineers from 2degrees and AST SpaceMobile have been testing the system during August. The trials included voice calls, video calls and mobile data sessions using standard 4G and 5G handsets rather than dedicated satellite phones or extra hardware. 2degrees said it has invested millions in the local ground station. It also said calls, data and messages on the service are designed to originate and terminate on the 2degrees core network without passing through another country or jurisdiction. Mark Callander, Chief Executive, 2degrees, described the project as a response to persistent coverage gaps in New Zealand. "AST SpaceMobile approaches satellite connectivity in a unique way. The service is designed to offer voice calling, data and SMS, extending connectivity into places that have traditionally been difficult to serve. 2degrees has invested millions in building a ground station locally, providing access to advanced technology that will enable connectivity for Kiwis outside traditional coverage areas," said Mark Callander, Chief Executive, 2degrees. 2degrees has not given a launch date for customers. Further testing will continue before it confirms timings for trials and a commercial launch. Callander also linked the timing to the pace of AST SpaceMobile's satellite deployment. "AST SpaceMobile has a robust launch roadmap, and with each additional satellite deployed, service availability increases. We will offer the service commercially when service availability reaches a level we consider viable," said Callander. Global push AST SpaceMobile is building a direct-to-device satellite network through partnerships with mobile operators rather than standalone satellite handsets. It has agreements with more than 50 mobile network operators globally, including Verizon, AT&T and Rakuten, covering a combined subscriber base of nearly three billion. That operator-led model has become a key part of the emerging race to provide mobile coverage from space. Telecom groups are exploring satellite links as a way to extend service in remote and rural areas, where conventional mobile towers are harder to justify on cost grounds or face geographic constraints. New Zealand's terrain and dispersed population have made that challenge particularly acute in some parts of the country. For 2degrees, the Marton ground station provides domestic infrastructure as it seeks to add satellite links to its existing mobile network. Chris Ivory, Chief Commercial Officer, AST SpaceMobile, framed the New Zealand deployment as an early commercial step in the company's international expansion. "New Zealand's early adoption of AST SpaceMobile's technology and deployment of commercial ground infrastructure position the country at the forefront of space-based cellular broadband. Working alongside 2degrees, we are bringing a new satellite connectivity capability and advancing the integration of our networks to deliver voice, broadband data and SMS directly to everyday smartphones, without specialised devices," said Chris Ivory, Chief Commercial Officer, AST SpaceMobile. 🚨 THEY DON'T NEED CAMERAS ANYMORE — YOUR WI-FI IS WATCHING EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE For years, people worried about hidden cameras. Now they're using Wi-Fi signals to detect movement inside buildings. Whether someone is home. Which room they're in. Whether they're walking, sitting, standing, or lying down. Xfinity introduced WiFi Motion, a feature that uses Wi-Fi signals and connected devices to detect movement inside a home. One of the largest internet providers in America openly acknowledged that Wi-Fi can be used to detect activity occurring inside your house. The disturbing part isn't what the technology can do today. It's that privacy laws were written for cameras and microphones, not for a world where wireless signals can map activity inside private spaces. The conspiracy isn't that someone is secretly monitoring every home right now. The conspiracy is that the technology is advancing faster than the laws designed to protect people from it. Do you think they're building smarter homes... or the infrastructure for total surveillance?

SaaS is dead. Long live SaaS. In the age of AI and agents, most software companies are still clinging too tightly to their past. Their demise will come quick if they do not embrace and build the technologies that are destined to disrupt them. However those who have already done so must recognize the reality of the world we still live in today. That world still has the majority of its work done by humans who still need workflow tools and technology to get their work done. While we pivoted hard to AI and agents with Fin, which will become the majority of our business quite soon, we recognize the importance of the software our customers use and so have also decided to double down on our investment in Intercom, the world's best help desk and customer service system for how customer service is done at this age. Rain admits to network struggles, defends pricing model in Parliament Rain South Africa has acknowledged ongoing issues with its network quality, describing the situation as a “headache” during a presentation to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies on Thursday. “Every single day we are trying to get better,” said a Rain representative. “We understand our limitations, and we are constantly working to improve.” Responding to criticism about the cost of Rain’s services, the representative argued that the company offers unmatched value particularly for households. “We believe we are providing the best value in the market. Our products are geared toward home connectivity, not just for individuals looking for a gig or two. When our customers leave, they take their internet with them.” He emphasized that Rain’s pricing should be considered in context. “If we want to ask whether it’s expensive, we need to look at the value we’re providing. Are others offering the same kind of service?” The remarks came as part of Parliament’s broader inquiry into service quality, pricing models, and customer experiences across South Africa’s major telecom providers.

Other autonomy providers bolt on their own sensors, with their owning cleaning. Tesla integrates it all together. The same wipers that clean the windshield also clean the front cameras. If you’re Waymo, how do you even go about reprogramming the windshield wiper routine for all the different car brands and models you run on? You don’t, you create a separate cleaning system for your own sensors. Tesla makes the car. They make the software that runs on the car. They control all the parts. They run the ride share service. They own the charging network. They own the service network. And they are making all of it fit together to deliver the best, the simplest, and the most elegant autonomy solution. This wiper routine is just one example of that.

New windows cannot hide the many challenges that Gugulethu residents continue to face every day. Children should not have to play alongside rats, and residents should not have to endure leaking drains that have gone unresolved for more than eight years. Service delivery has no colour. It has no race. It has no religion. It has no postcode. It has only one responsibility: to serve every resident with dignity, fairness, and urgency. Inclusive governance is not optional; it is the constitutional duty of every municipality. Every resident deserves the opportunity to live in a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment. The true measure of progress is not what a city looks like, but how it treats all the people who call it home. ActionSA is committed to ensuring quality service delivery for all. Every community deserves clean and safe streets and the dignity that comes with responsive local government. Want so kan dit nie aangaan nie!

A new surveillance network is coming to America “Two of the largest private surveillance networks in America just teamed up. Amazon's Ring and Flock Safety have officially partnered. Here's what that means - The AI powered cameras that track your car on the street can now ask your neighbor's Ring doorbell for video of you - They're connecting the street to your front door, creating one massive searchable surveillance network for the police. And this isn't theory. 404 Media has already reported that ICE and the Secret Service have access to Flock Network. Now that network is about to get millions of new cameras from Ring. Remember, Ring was already fined $5.8 million by the FTC because its employees were caught spying on customers' private videos. You bought that doorbell to keep strangers out. Now it's letting federal agents in.”
