A massive mountain of illegal waste in Oxfordshire will be cleared, the Environment Agency says. It says the 'exceptional decision' was made to clear the site because it poses a 'fire risk', adding that it will only take such action in 'truly exceptional circumstances'. The 150-metre long pile of rubbish provoked outrage and experts say it posed a risk to the environment. One man who was arrested as part of an investigation into the dumping of waste has since been released pending further investigation.

The scourge of illegal waste crime sweeping the country has now made its way to my river, with one of the largest illegal waste dumps in the country being discovered next to the River Roding at Stapleford Tawney, near Epping. Nobody knows what exactly is dumped on this 20,000 square metre site, or how much waste it contains, but it is certainly tens of thousands of tonnes. Shockingly, rubbish has been dumped on this site since 2024 and the Environment Agency (EA) has known about it for *at least* a year. Even now, however, the EA has not shut down the site by obtaining a legal closure order, physically blocking off the site and putting in CCTV monitoring. This means the site is wide open so anyone can continue to dump there. There is also zero monitoring of the environmental impact on the river, despite visible toxic leachate pooling on the surface of the dump & draining off it. The EA has apparently no plans to remove the waste from this site either & intends to let it pollute the environment indefinitely.

The Baroness has written to Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs today that current government actions are not sufficient to deal with the scale of illegal fly-tipping.

The Environment Agency has launched an investigation after discovering SEVERAL THOUSAND TONNES of illegally dumped household and commercial waste at a major dumping site on land off Midland Road in Bradford. Officers are working with Bradford Council, West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to identify those responsible and trace the landowner. The public is being urged to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. This hasn’t happened overnight, a blind eye must have been turned at some point, by someone. Back in the day there were the Pinkertons, they did investigations and even arrests. They were a private company. Since we the people have already taken over the part of investigating exposing fraud, maybe we just need to create something like the Pinkertons to arrest the criminals. Since no one in any law enforcement agency seems to be capable of arresting actual criminals. Just me spit balling over here.

The crisis began last year after a fire damaged Vilnius' main waste-sorting plant. The facility is still not fully operational, and waste continues to accumulate across the city. Environmental experts are raising concerns, while Vilnius Mayor has warned that another fire is possible. Firefighters are now on duty at the site 24 hours a day. Authorities are urgently looking for solutions. Some of the waste is being burned at a waste-to-energy plant, while the rest is being sent to other cities for processing.
