"He stated he is anxious about going... back to SHU because he stated he is going back to a place where he had gotten marks on his neck and he does not know why it happened." The same records note Epstein denied suicidal thoughts, called himself "a coward," said he doesn't like pain, and was "future oriented." Two weeks later, he was dead. Dr. Michael Baden, who observed the autopsy and has reviewed over 1,000 prison death autopsies spanning 50 years, says he's never seen three neck fractures in a suicidal hanging. His conclusion: "Not a hanging. Not a suicide." So he didn't know how he got marks on his neck the first time.
