What we need from our government are policies that respect the role of both mothers and fathers in the home and to support parents in their home responsibilities. There is more to life than the market and the workplace.

Interesting point here. GodLogic_GL & Ruslan make the argument that the qualifications for elder are things that all Christian men should aspire to. Wesley Todd (Sensible Moderate) & Joel Webbon disagree, stating that not all attributes listed for elder are applicable to all men, like the “able to teach” requirement. When pressed, Wesley says that men in the past had to delegate spiritual teaching to pastors since they were largely illiterate. This doesn’t seem to hold up against scripture. In Ephesians 6, Paul says that fathers do have a duty to instruct their children, even if they are not elders. “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 The word used here for “instruction” is “nouthesia,” which means explicit & intentional teaching. This doesn’t mean “make sure they are taught by someone/anyone.” No, this implies that fathers specifically are commanded to actively teach their children themselves, not delegate it to a pastor. Fathers are commanded to teach their children in the Lord. This seems like a contradiction to say you believe in patriarchy(father rule) but reject this claim.
