Today, CNBC released a new video with Consumer Reports comparing driver-assist systems. But there's a problem… in the video, they used Tesla's Autopilot, not Tesla's FSD (Supervised), and compared that to the top offerings in other automakers' cars. CNBC also claimed that Tesla lacked an effective driver monitoring camera, but Tesla does have one—so much so that some Tesla owners complain about its sensitivity. Camera based driver attention monitoring is less strict for Autopilot than it is for FSD (Supervised). Not once in the video did they test the latest version of Tesla's FSD. Consumer Reports says Ford and GM have the best driver assist systems. The Mercedes system they praise in the video is extremely limited and can only work on highways. Tesla's FSD (Supervised) will work on virtually any road in the US/Canada.

It will be much, much better, 10 times safer than a person. It's not even going to be a contest frankly. So this is a really big deal. Being able to do a software update and have several million cars suddenly go from manual driving to autonomous, I think will be the single biggest asset value increase in history. The normal usage of a passenger car is roughly 10 to 12 hours per week, call it maybe an hour and a half per day. When you drive around you see lots of cars just parked in parking lots because out of the 168 hours in a week, they're used less than 10%, maybe 7%. But once it is autonomous it can be used probably 50 hours a week, maybe more. So it is effectively a fivefold increase in the value of a car overnight. My business partner gave me a ride in his car. For an equivalent of Ksh 10 Million which is half the price of my toyota, you can get a Huawei Aito SUV. Self driving self parking. You call it with your phone and it comes over to where you are standing. So, we are spending more for less technology and comfort. Don’t forget that this car is hybrid electric and fuel. When he uses electricity alone his cost per month is 150 Yuan per month which is around Ksh 2,800. So we pay more and then spend even more.
