We started with simple kamikaze sea drones. Then we built drones with turrets that can shoot down helicopters. Now we have drones that can shoot down Russian fighter jets from the sea. We have developed boats that carry other drones. We also have boats that strike targets on land from the sea. And we are developing more stable drones that can operate longer and more effectively at sea. Soon – and not in the distant future – we will have systems that can operate even in ocean conditions. We are also actively working on underwater systems. So, facing threats in the Black Sea, we are finding the right security solutions. These solutions can be used in your matters as well – including in complex situations like the Strait of Hormuz today. Drones can solve problems that even a fleet sometimes cannot. These drones are controlled via a thin fibre optic thread, instead of the conventional radio signal. It means the drones can fly further ánd the signal cannot be hindered by a jammer. The Russian advantage in this area is enormous. With a range of over 30 km, sometimes 40 km and what seems like an endless supply, these drones make it increasingly difficult to hold positions and keep soldiers safe. I am grateful to each mobile air defense group warrior who protects our infrastructure and people on a daily basis. Only this night did they shoot down 40 "Shahed" drones, which account for the majority of what Russia has fired. We have already shot down 359 such drones since the beginning of the year. Our sky defenders’ precision, electronic warfare, and every partner’s support literally save lives. We are working to improve the effectiveness of our mobile air defense groups and add more defensive electronic warfare systems. This is one of this year's key priorities.

The Pentagon is negotiating the purchase of Ukrainian interceptor drones. Just like us, they want to shoot down Iranian Shahed drones without wasting missiles that cost millions of dollars. Our Community helped bring interceptor drones into existence and scale this technology. We believed it was possible when most people thought the idea was crazy. And here we are — another video showing successful interceptions, including Shaheds equipped with cameras (spoiler: it didn’t help them). Europe must finally equip itself with real strength, real ability to defend its skies, its land, and its sea against any type of attack. In particular, this means building sufficient air defense production capacity — both against drones and against ballistic missiles. The situation in the Middle East shows how difficult it is to provide one hundred percent protection against missiles and “shahed” drones. Even in the Gulf countries, which have more advanced air defense systems than those provided to us so far by our partners and have them in larger quantities, not all ballistic missiles are intercepted. There were also “shaheds” that air defense in the region has not stopped. Everyone can now see that Ukraine’s experience in defense is, in many respects, irreplaceable. We are ready to share this experience and help those nations that helped Ukraine this winter and throughout this war. We are ready to work on developing Europe’s shared defensive capabilities. Europe must have enough air defense missiles, enough experience in shooting down drones, and sufficient production of modern interceptor drones. Together, we can make this happen. Thank you to everyone working to strengthen the power of a united Europe.
