It’s a chicken and egg problem. Companies start out with good products only to realise Indian consumers don’t care much for quality, only for price. Also, companies are constrained with power price points (5,10,15,20) and have to make sure the value chain fits into these buckets.

The govt is the only one who can do that and create a level playing field. It must mandate stricter labelling laws, min. ingredient requirements.

@SecularTrainee Most people don’t care or don’t have the mental faculties to decipher labels. Many countries make it easier for the consumers by having traffic light (red/amber/green) labels for salt, sugar and fats. We should contemplate doing this in India.

Even US and Europe version are pole apart in themselves. Fanta in US is pure sugar. While Fanta in Europe doesn't even look orange in colour.

This is true but exaggerated. India exports these products that meet strict global standards, while domestically we mostly consume cost-optimized versions made for local price sensitivity. We lack weak enforcement, low consumer awareness & limited willingness to pay for quality

💯 true. I realized this 10 years ago when I had an aftershave I used—one from Dubai and one from India. The Indian version was a cheap, diluted one! They say Indians are scammers. No, we are the biggest suckers who get scammed legally and aren’t even aware of it. 🤦🏽‍♂️

This is not usually because international companies are trying to take advantage of people here. It is mainly because they need to sell products at prices that are affordable for us. So they adjust the quality to match what the market can pay. Whether it is soft drinks, chips, ice cream, or everyday packaged items, the quality in developed countries is often higher. They cannot sell the exact same version here because it would be too expensive for a large part of the population.

🚨 DO NOT EAT INDIAN PRODUCTS 🚨 “Over 400 Indian food products have been banned by the European Union for excessive contamination” Yes — 400+ These aren’t minor recalls — these are full-blown bans due to dangerous toxins, pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, and more. 🧵 FULL THREAD 👇 1) 🇪🇺 The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has consistently flagged Indian exports for: •Pesticide residues far beyond safety limits •Cancer-causing chemicals (like ethylene oxide) •Unauthorized dyes in spices •Banned antibiotics in seafood •Fecal bacteria in ready-to-eat products 2) 🇺🇸 USA has rejected tons of Indian food shipments due to: •Salmonella in spices •Lead in turmeric •Rodent hair and insect fragments in processed foods •Formalin in exported fish Even major brands like MDH, Everest, and Haldiram’s have faced recalls abroad! 3) ⚠️ In 2024, Hong Kong banned MDH & Everest spices due to ethylene oxide — a cancer-causing pesticide. This chemical is banned for food use in most of the world. But it’s still showing up in Indian exports. Imagine how many are still being sold unchecked in local shops. 4) 🇸🇬 Singapore & Australia issued alerts on Indian snacks and instant foods for: •Unsafe levels of acrylamide (a potential carcinogen) •Mislabeling ingredients •Spoiled or expired packaged goods being exported 📦 Many were pulled off shelves just days after arriving. 6) ⚠️ These Indian products were banned by EU regulators for contamination but are still sitting on shelves in North America: •MDH Masala (contains ethylene oxide, a cancer-causing chemical) •Everest Spices (same toxin, multiple variants) •Patanjali Herbal Powders (contain lead & arsenic) •Frozen Indian Seafood (laced with formalin, a preservative used in dead bodies) •Indian Turmeric Powder (frequently flagged for excessive lead) •Ready-to-eat Indian meals (found contaminated with salmonella & e.coli) •Desi Snacks like Haldiram’s (some flagged for acrylamide, a potential carcinogen) 7) 🥶 India’s lack of regulation and food safety enforcement has made it the #1 source of rejected food shipments globally — according to US FDA import refusal reports. 🚫 What’s banned abroad is still being sold in Canada, UK, and US ethnic grocery stores. 8) 🛑 Avoid food products made in India unless tested or certified: •Masalas •Pickles •Instant noodles •Herbal powders •Ayurvedic products •Frozen snacks 🔍 Check the origin. Many “desi” brands import straight from Indian factories with zero oversight. 9) ⚰️ Why this matters: Consuming contaminated products long-term can cause: •Organ damage •Cancer •Hormonal issues •Infertility •Chronic gut infections Yet Indian companies continue exporting while playing with millions of lives. 10) 💡 Action: ✅ Read product labels ✅ Choose brands with international certifications ✅ Report suspicious items to health authorities ✅ Share this thread — especially with elders who regularly buy desi products 11) 🧾 The global trust in Indian food exports is collapsing. 📉 If over 400 products have been banned in just the EU, imagine how many more are slipping through in countries with weak regulations or corrupt customs officials. ⚠️ Don’t wait for a health crisis to stop. — 🔁 RETWEET to warn others 📌 Bookmark this for your next grocery trip #FoodSafety #IndianProducts #HealthAlert #Spices #BannedProducts #EthyleneOxide #Lead #IndiaExportScam

Americans Are Being Poisoned For Profit, The FDA Is Worthless, We Need Donald Trump & RFK Jr. “We use over 10,000 food additives here in the United States, and in Europe, there's only 400 approved” You have no idea how bad it really is until you listen to things like this “Our government is letting US food companies get away with serving American citizens harmful ingredients that are banned or heavily regulated in other countries. Even worse, American food companies are selling the same exact products overseas without these chemicals, but choose to continue serving us the most toxic version here. It's un American. Let me give you some examples of McDonald's French Fries. In the US, there's 11 ingredients. ‌ In the UK, there's 3, and salt is optional. An ingredient called dimethylpolysiloxane is an ingredient preserved with formaldehyde, a neurotoxin in the US version. This is used as a foaming agent, so they don't have to replace the oil that often, making McDonald's more money here in the United States. But they don't do that across the pond. This is Skittles. ‌ Notice the long list of ingredient differences. 10 artificial dyes in the US version and titanium dioxide. This ingredient is banned in Europe because it can cause DNA damage. Artificial dyes are made from petroleum and products containing these dyes require a warning label in Europe that states it may cause adverse effects on activity in in detention in children. And they have been linked to cancer and disruptions in the immune system. ‌ This on the screen back here is Gatorade. In the US, they use red 40 and caramel color. In Germany, they don't. They use carrot and sweet potatoes to color their Gatorade. General Mills is definitely playing some tricks on us. ‌ They launched a new version of Trix just recently in Australia. It has no dyes. They even advertised that when the US version still does. This is why I became a food activist. My name is Bonnie Hari, and I only want one thing. ‌ I want Americans to be treated the same way as citizens in other countries by our own American companies. Last 60 years, almost all food additives were be being created for one sole purpose, to improve the bottom line of the food industry and not improve our health. These chemicals were created to mimic real food, to make it easier and cheaper for food manufacturers to preserve their food, to make it last longer on the shelf, to help manufacturing, and sinister of all, to allow them to create products that are more addictive in nature. I ended up quitting my lifelong career as a corporate management consultant to investigate and write about food full time. During my investigations, I found an alarming discovery. ‌ We use over 10,000 food additives here in the United States, and in Europe, there's only 400 approved. We were able to get Subway to remove azo dicarbonamide from their bread in the United States after another successful petition. And as a bonus, there was a ripple effect, and almost every bread manufacturer in America followed suit. I wanna make an important point here. Ordinary people who rallied for safer food, shared this information, and signed petitions were able to make these changes. ‌ We did this on our own, But isn't this something that the people in Washington, our elected politicians, should be doing? We deserve the same safer ingredients other countries get. We cannot allow our own American companies to treat us this way anymore. We've had enough. It's unethical, and it needs to stop.”

How Out Of Control Is US Government? You’re Not Going To Believe This A raw milk lawsuit was brought against the FDA. “The FDA's response will shock you — Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to obtain any food they wish — there is no deeply rooted historical tradition of unfettered access to foods of all kinds.” “Back in 2010, the farm to consumer legal defense fund, a group dedicated to protecting consumer access to raw milk, sued the FDA, alleging that their laws surrounding raw milk violated the US constitution. The suit was ultimately dismissed, but the FDA's response will shock you. They wrote, there is no deeply rooted historical tradition of unfettered access to foods of all kinds. Plaintiff's assertion of a fundamental right to their own bodily and physical health, which includes what foods they do and do not choose to consume for themselves and their families, is similarly unavailing because plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to obtain any food they wish. The FDA believes that you do not have the right to choose what you eat or drink. You should only be allowed to consume what the FDA gives you permission to consume. One thing is for certain. The US government does not want you selling raw, unpasteurized milk. But why? So why is raw milk illegal in the first place? The numbers for other foods nationwide are pretty comparable. Fruit salad caused 1,323 illnesses, 29 hospitalizations, 1,345 illnesses, 100 and 4 1,345 illnesses, 104 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths. And pizza caused 1,614 illnesses, 3 deaths. The FDA is almost entirely controlled by the pharmaceutical industry. As a federal agency, you'd think that the FDA is paid by taxpayers. But wouldn't you know the pharmaceutical industry finances 75% of the agency's drug division? Now every 5 years, top officials at the FDA go behind closed doors to negotiate its budget, but they're not at the table with US lawmakers. Instead, they're negotiating with representatives from major pharmaceutical industries whose products are regulated by the FDA.”
