This abnormal accumulation increases intracranial pressure, causing the head to enlarge and potentially leading to developmental delays, vision problems, seizures, and neurological damage if left untreated. The swelling seen is not due to bone growth, but to excess fluid compressing delicate brain tissue. Hydrocephalus can be congenital or acquired, and early diagnosis is critical for protecting brain function.
