It's super weird that the Republicans are constantly trying to frame the Democrats as being pro-slavery while simultaneously getting bent out of shape when Democrats want to tear down Confederate monuments.

The simplest response is, "Have you ever seen a modern democrat with a Confederate flag?"

90% of MAGAts are TOO FUCKING STUPID to understand the actual History, as 2 why the racists switched parties from Dem to Repub.

Now explain why the South didn't vote Republican until 1980, and why only 1 Dixiecrat left the Democrat Party.

Could it be simpler for them than this one?

Bullshit Nixon’s record on civil rights — Nixon’s administration enforced desegregation in some areas and supported affirmative action measures, his approach was pragmatic rather not exploitative. The Timing of the shift — Full Republican dominance in the South emerged later than you suggest (1980s–1990s), driven more by economic growth, suburbanization, evangelical Christianity, and broader conservatism than racial appeals. Class and ideology factors — Scholars like Matthew Lassiter emphasize that middle-class suburban voters in the Sun Belt prioritized “color-blind” policies, low taxes, and anti-government sentiment over overt racism Finally - it was a pre-existing trend— Republican gains in the South began in the 1950s (Eisenhower carrying several states), predating the civil rights era.

Who flies the confederate flag? Republicans or Democrats?

A whole segment of the population in the South still don't know this switch ever took place and they think the parties are the opposite of what they are today. The only information they get about the world comes from word of mouth from people who also get it from word of mouth.

@Deviknyte When you lay it out like that, it’s really not that hard to understand.

Just bring up Strom Thurmond. A Republican senator modern enough to reference (a senator post 9/11), but was originally a Democrat senator who opposed civil rights legislation.

This entire thing is a myth. The he democrats never changed their views on segregation. They just got smarter about how to do it.

I usually just ask the Republican to show me all of the Confederate-flag-waving KKK members who voted for Barrack Obama and Kamala Harris.

Thats true prior to the civil rights act when Southern Democrats became republicans to continue their racist ways right up until today. Spewing lies doesn’t change your racism

TLDR; Republicans freed the slaves and gave them the right to vote and blacks turned their backs on Republicans the moment that Democrats said "WELFARE". They switched parties overnight for a handout, and that's how to buy their vote to this day.

If that happened "over 40 years", why didn't Joe Biden, who entered politics in 1969 change parties?

It's always so frustrating to me that so many supposedly "educated" black folk fall for this bullshit that the Republicans were the ones who really wanted best for us... especially the knuckleheads who live in the very south where they did this!

😂 More revisionist history! Lol, only two racist southern democrats switched to the repub party: John Jarman and Biden’s buddy Strom Thurmond.

The "Southern Strategy" is a myth. The South only became solid Republican under H.W. Bush. Then mainly because of economics, increased per capita, Democrats abandoning classic American values, and their terrible foreign policy.
