Ex-Prem ref Mark Halsey weighs in on controversial decision to send off Breel Embolo vs Argentina 🚨👀

@RefereeHalsey Always Argentina...? how about the England goal off of the wire. There are hundreds. Across all teams.

@RefereeHalsey The only controversy is fueling a hate campaign against Messi and Argentina, which is only harmful for the sport. Its a shame to blemish a World Cup and poison the chance to enjoy great futbol, for stupid reasons.

@RefereeHalsey Do you have @RefereeHalsey opinion on the illegitimate goal scored be England yesterday? The chip in the ball could picked Croatian striker's hair making contact with ball but couldn't pick the ball getting intercepted by the camera cable. What a joke. Always talk about others.

@RefereeHalsey The problem is it goes only one way.😂

@RefereeHalsey Can he also weigh in on this clear Switzerland penalty that was not reviewed by VAR?

The issue is not whether embolo deserved the second yellow. No one would be complaining if during the game play the ref spots it and gives it to him. The concern is that VAR seems to only get involved with it suits some teams. How many yellows weren’t issued out for Argentina tackles, how many possible penalties don’t even go to VAR?

@RefereeHalsey @RefereeHalsey the FA guidance says “mistaken identity reviewable when a player is shown a yellow/red card but the offence for which the card was shown was committed by another player of either team”. The offence in question was a foul, not simulation. Mistaken VAR intervention

@RefereeHalsey Those who are complaining are doing so because Argentina “benefited” and they don’t care about rule application.

@RefereeHalsey Brain dead people complaining about VAR when they got this absolutely 100% correct. The officials can’t win 😂 follow the rules and get it right, people complain!

@RefereeHalsey Were all being gaslit. It’s as if they genuinely think we don’t know what ‘mistaken identity’ means. It means the ref mixed up two players and booked the wrong one by mistake….which is not what happened here.

@RefereeHalsey But where was VAR during messi red card worthy foul vs Algerian player. Why VAR favored argentina so much in all their games..thats the issue..

@RefereeHalsey Wheres the "controversy" ? Or you just say that to stir the pot

@RefereeHalsey Its not controversial at all. Lie peddlers like you are making it an issue even after 4k quality video evidence!

@RefereeHalsey What about Martinez going over the boundary to the crowd, surely that is a 2nd yellow to the letter of the law 🙄

@RefereeHalsey It’s not mistaken identity though is it, I do a mistaken call of a foul by the ref so we are re Reffing live match decisions by VAR. Mistaken identity is booking a different player on the same team

@RefereeHalsey Come off it! The ref making the wrong decision regarding a foul is in no shape or form ‘mistaken identity’ it’s ‘mistaken decision’. If FIFA want to use VAR for that/simulation, they should’ve worded their rules accordingly.

@RefereeHalsey Absolutely ridiculous! There are dozens of simulations on every game! What’s the benefit? You just overturn yellow and that’s the end of it.

@RefereeHalsey

@RefereeHalsey i for one support the ref here. its in the rulebook and should be practiced more often esp when it occurs in the box. problem is that its hard to eval if a dive is a dive or a genuine foul at real time. its only thx to that mistaken identity rule that VAR could step in this time

@RefereeHalsey Parades committed like 56 fouls in the game and got one yellow late on. It's also not just about that decision against embolo. The entire game was plagued. Again

@RefereeHalsey This situation is going to make wonders for football all around the world; present and future players will stop simulating.🤣🤣🤣

@RefereeHalsey El jugador es Embolo, vos viejo meado sos Embolia

@mireku_gerardo @RefereeHalsey How’s this controversial in any way ?

@RefereeHalsey I’m so tired of diving and embellishment in football. I think there should be VAR just for that to remove it from the game. Thank you.

@RefereeHalsey What a load of rubbish so how many times has a player gone down without being touched according to his logic all should of been taken to VAR this is not mistaken identity its re refereeing the game

@RefereeHalsey Seen plenty of simulation in the World Cup yet low and behold it’s a sending off when it’s against Argentina 🤣🤣🤣

@RefereeHalsey The rule needs renaming because that’s not mistaken identity is it. Mistaken identity would be if he booked Alvarez because he thought he committed the foul instead of paredes. This is fully changing the decision and giving it the other way

@RefereeHalsey The issue is still consistency, if you are going to use var like such each instance on the pitch becomes reviewable. Guess what I HATE THE NFL. I do think simulation should be handled but the mistaken identity is pure nonsense. Ref didn’t need to caution anyone in that.

@RefereeHalsey Interested to see what he had to say about the England v Norway game

@RefereeHalsey Fuck you. They only do this for those cocksuckers. Fuck you again and flick you a third time, you scum loving asswipe. Calling it mistaken identity is such a misnomer. Hats giving the card to the wrong guy on the SAME TEAM! At least come up with an accurate description!

@RefereeHalsey Mistaken identity was when Gibbs received a red card meant for Chamberlain.

@RefereeHalsey Where did the mistaken identity happen that allowed VAR to interfere 🤔 It was Paredes who was involved, not another player.

@RefereeHalsey You didn't survive cancer to chat shit like this, mate

@RefereeHalsey

@RefereeHalsey I agree that both were yellows, but the problem is there is no consistency. Especially considering argentine players have simulated as well with no consequences.
