Falling Down is a vintage ‘90s thriller that pits Robert Duvall against Michael Douglas. Douglas plays an Average Joe who finally breaks loose and goes crazy on “the system”. Duvall is the cop following in his wake. It’s a fun, easy-to-digest film that allows Duvall to shine.

Robert De Niro & Robert Duvall starred in the 1981 film True Confessions together & if you haven’t seen this yet, I think now’s the time. The two play brothers- De Niro a priest, Duvall a detective. It’s a quality crime thriller that I’m thankful got made. These two are great.

Robert Duvall is so damn good in Open Range- he is so damn good. I’ve never met anyone who dislikes this film. Duvall & Kevin Costner absolutely bring the thunder in this film in a throwback Western that is so rewatchable. This might be what I rewatch tonight in Duvall’s honor.

Robert Duvall was utterly essential to the success of the first two Godfather films. His absence from the 3rd installment is a huge reason the 3rd film didn’t meet expectations. Duvall never needed a lot of lines to make an impact. He made his presence felt with just a look. RIP.

In honor of the great Robert Duvall, please add The Apostle to your watchlist. This scene between Duvall and Billy Bob Thornton is so powerful. It moved me a great deal when I was a nonbeliever.

Robert Duvall & Jeff Bridges each own #Oscars for Best Actor. Bridges won his here in Crazy Heart. Duvall’s not in this film much but this scene jumped out to me the moment I first saw this in theaters. This is a special scene between two special actors. I’m thankful for Duvall.

Robert Duvall won his only Oscar for Tender Mercies & he deserved every ounce of gold from the Academy. I have a hard time talking about Tender Mercies because Duvall is so powerful & so emotional. It’s just one of those performances that reminds you what it means to be an actor.

Robert Duvall needed only 11 minutes of screen time in Apocalypse Now to deliver an iconic, #Oscar nominated performance. Duvall was a starting pitcher who loved to come out of the bullpen. It’s hard for me to even come up with an actor who compares to this guy. He was 1 of 1.

I'll be watching Open Range in honor of Robert Duvall today. Boss Spearman is the most John Ford-like character in a non-John Ford film. But Duvall was never just a stock character actor. His presence was enough to elevate a film. "Cows are one thing, but one man telling another man where he can go in this country is something else."

Robert Duvall making his screen debut in To Kill a Mockingbird, 1962. The 31-year-old didn’t have a single line of dialogue on-screen. However, in 2021, Duvall revealed that he had one line cut from the film: “At the end, when they’re [Jem and Scout] leading me home, they say, ‘We’re going to take you home,’ and I say Something like, ‘Where are you taking me?’ or ‘Where?’ Something like that. That was all, but they cut the line.”

If you asked me to choose a single acting performance that explains why the world is the way that it is I would choose this. RIP Robert Duvall, one of the most complex and ingenious actors of the New Hollywood.

On this beautiful #MemorialDay, I can’t help but think of the late Robert Duvall and his performance in Apocalypse Now, which next to Saving Private Ryan is the best war film I’ve ever seen. This film drops you into Vietnam- an immersive masterpiece. Happy Memorial Day to all.

RIP Robert Duvall (1931-2026) A lot of you might have a list of favourite Robert Duvall performances; I too have them. But the most memorable one for me is this one in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1978). He features for less than 20 seconds. The image of him in the swing playing like a kid might be inscribed in my mind probably because of this trivia. This just shows how much of a good guy he was. The story behind the scene: Robert Duvall, who had previously worked with Philip Kaufman on The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (1972), happened to be in San Francisco at the time of filming, and shot his only scene for free. He plays a crazy priest playing on a swing. It's supposed to foreshadow the pod person anomie and alienation we feel later in the movie. (Source: IMDb)

my favourite Robert Duvall moment is him talking about a Scottish footballer from the 60’s and Tom Cruise grinning inanely pretending to know what the fuck he’s on about.

The ending of The Godfather Part II is a piece of cinema history. Consider all the legendary actors in this scene- consider those who have left us, including now Robert Duvall. I know it’s cliche to call The Godfather the best film ever made, but it’s honestly true. RIP Bobby.

i always loved robert duvall’s complete indifference juxtaposed with john marley’s exuberant outburst. duvall takes his big bites and then off he goes. rest in peace to a vital link to new hollywood, an era that seems further from our reach with each passing 💔

RIP Robert Duvall (1931-2026) Robert Duvall is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors of all time. His contribution to Cinema is immense. He was a part of one of the most important periods of American Cinema & featured in many of the masterpieces, with "Apocalypse Now" (1979, Coppola) being one of them. This is one of the most iconic lines in the History of Cinema. He will be missed by all.

Quentin Tarantino in his books 'Cinema Speculation' called the ending of 'The Outfit' (1973) as one of the most satisfying movie sequences. Excerpt from the book: "The movie ends with Duvall and Baker doing an all-out assault on Ryan’s home compound. And it’s one of the more satisfying sequences of that type I’ve ever seen, far better than the similar action climax in Michael Mann’s 'Thief' (1981). While it’s not as amazing or as violent as the whorehouse pump-action-shotgun shootout in John Flynn’s next film, 'Rolling Thunder' (1977), it’s still cool and exciting. And the scene between Duvall and Baker on the stairs is the epitome of poignant masculinity. With the picture’s final freeze frame capper displaying a self-mocking tone that ends the whole film on a hearty macho guffaw."

Michael Douglas won the Oscar for Best Actor for his iconic performance as Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone’s 1987 film Wall Street, a commentary on the unhinged financial system taking over America. Douglas is so unbelievable in this movie & I always return to this because of his performance. I don’t think Douglas gets the credit he deserves for his raw talent as an actor. He also has an upcoming memoir that I intend to read & review on this here app.

Robert Redford & Robert Duvall are both gone. This scene in The Natural…man, it’s hard not to get emotional. Rewatching this film takes on a new meaning now. The world could collapse tomorrow, but at least we’ll still have this film. I’m grateful as hell these two made movies.
