After Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, The Game, Falling Down and Basic Instinct I think he established himself as a serious actor in Hollywood and as good as his father Kirk.
Agree- I think of Michael Douglas as Gordon Gecko. Supreme acting coupled with his charisma and a great story. It's in my top ten favourite movies.
Sheen was no slouch either
The cinematography here is outstanding. The handheld shots make it known that there is a lot of instability here. I met Michael Douglas at an "Ant Man" movie premiere. I got him to sign my phony million dollar bill. I said, "I LOVE 'Wall Street.'" "Yeah... alright." We all burst into laughter because it was such a Michael Douglas reply. I feel like, as a person, he isn't far removed from his character in "Falling Down."
I think Stone wanted Gecko to be the ultimate antagonist but, instead, his character became what a lot of people idolized. It's been a slow, downward slide since.
Douglas is vastly underrated. One of the greater actors of all time with one of the greatest body of works. Elevates everything he is in.
That last punch dried Gordon's jacket.
Avoided this film because it simply wasn't appealing, however after ruling out all options one day and finally deciding to give it a go,Wow. Whatched it many times since.
This never made sense to me. Gekko was smart enough to have known not to admit to all these things after Bud was arrested.
spectacular movie, even Charlie Sheen was in his prime. the story of the director and the financier he interviewed to make the character GG is interesting too
Ironically, Black Monday happened shortly after the films release.
I heard Oliver Stone wrote the Greed is Good speech to show how bad Wall Street had gotten. He was shocked when he found out some traders were using it as a blueprint.

He was a great actor and his movies were always good. It is sad seeing him today, but we will all get older, if we are blessed to do so.

A book called Arenas of Greed was written while Fitzgerald, the writer, was under investigation by FBI at the Chicago Board of Trade in late 1980’s. I think of that book as a template for every Wolf of Wall St. Everything makes sense through the lens of history.
You can go back and watch Streets of San Francisco and see that KD was on his way to bigger things….
