Some thoughts and ramblings about Valko 🐺 I like this part of Valko’s trailer where he describes MC’s smell to remind him of nature. It feels very innocent and pure 🥺 I also like how they write “Purest Love” because even though we don’t know much about him, it seems like he seems genuinely pure hearted? I could be wrong, but it seems like he’s the type to have greatly regret killing people for the greater good. And if he did, it probably horrified him and the guilt eats away at him. Part of me hopes that at some point in his story, he loses control of his werewolf instincts and accidentally puts MC in danger, and the self-loathing and angst will be delicious lol. I also hope that the story will involve his pack disapproving of her, but he steadily falls more in love despite the criticism. He is very super-hero vigilante coded, but more like Disney Marvel rather than DC comics, if that makes sense? 😅 I also like how he wears his heart on his sleeve and is super easy to read. The other LI have a bit more concealed emotions, but Valko is an open book and the himbo energy makes him very appealing and honest? I definitely think I’ll like Valko almost as much as I like Sylus. I still prefer Sylus’s wisdom, edge, and wit over Valko’s seemingly naive nature, but since we don’t know much about him yet, it’s still rather early to tell. And before anyone says anything, no, I am not being paid to say this LMAO. I just genuinely am intrigued by this character because of his himbo energy and easy to read emotions LOL. I’ve been meaning to share here that I bought land! Growing up I vividly remember going to the welfare office with my mom. Public school, free lunches & section 8 housing made life possible. I wanted more for myself so I studied, worked my ass off, and put myself in the way of getting lucky. I pivoted into tech in my late 20’s, and was already a mom of 2 at that point. It was not an immediate up and to the right journey. In fact, my first startup failed. And it was entirely bootstrapped so I lost all the money I’d put into it. After working at other companies for some years I was ready to try again but then I nearly failed at fundraising. It was humbling to hear no after no but I just kept learning and adapting. I have always played long games and I’m willing to take a lot of pain in the short-term to realize big goals. People who know my full life story say it’s so hard to believe that I am in this position today, but it’s not by accident. I built this life brick by brick. Odds were stacked against me but I found joy in the challenge of doing hard things. Much of my success is from being pushed down and told I couldn’t make it. I love proving people wrong. Back to the land. I started dreaming of this project over a decade ago, back when I had no money to do it. But I talked about it to friends constantly like it was inevitable - because even though I didn’t know *how* it would happen, I began believing it would. Here we are and now it’s a key piece of what I want to accomplish in my next act. I want to create a place that people come to for reflection, to unwind from the grind, and to build meaningful connection to self and others. I want to host salons to discuss and debate interesting topics with the smartest people I can find. Breakthroughs will happen round a fire, while lounging poolside, and while gazing up at the stars through the trees. It took a year of searching for land but we found a spot just 1 hour north of San Francisco. It’s got some beautiful bones and infrastructure on it already but there’s a lot to imagine and build to realize the dream. Everything big starts small. So, we put up our first tree swings, hammocks and a canvas tent. 🏕️ If you’re into that kind of journey then I’ll be posting more about it on IG and may create an account just for that work. I’ve never owned land so 10 acres is an amazing canvas to create and learn on. There will be mistakes and setbacks, There always are. But I can’t wait to see what gets accomplished in the next decade! (And no, I am not quitting my job at Meta - this project is my side gig for the foreseeable future. I’m lucky to have the best guy I know focused on it full-time.) As the corporate truism goes - team work makes the dream work. LFG! 💕

“blank canvas problem” figma says raw and unformed feelings… this should not be shared. * Look, I love AI! I lead and design products for AI & Data Solutions in one of the largest firms in the world. I use these tools every day. I’m one of the biggest advocates of AI. I do NOT fear it. I leverage it. I appreciate what Figma is trying to do here. Good intentions to help designers build faster. Make the design easier and accessible for everyone. And of course, meanwhile, profit from It. it is a business after all and it is perfectly fine. While I was watching Dylan generate detailed designs from a prompt, I started seeing aspiring designers getting attached to these tools and having everything easy, ready, quick… and a series of questions started to arise in my mind; * ➟ Are we going to see a generation of designers who lack resilience and love/appreciation for craft? ➟ Designers who are easily hurt and seek help from AI tools every time a client raises a criticism for the proposed design? ➟ Are these designers going to blame AI tools for the outcome and not take accountability for it? ➟ Perhaps they will go back to the AI input and generate 20+ options for clients in 5 mins without thinking instead of talking to the client, understanding the product positioning and actually thinking/exploring/working for the best design solution? ➟ Are we going to see lazier designers? and weak, giving up, getting frustrated easily? * Dylan says ”This tool helps us to get past the blank canvas problem” Blank canvas is one of the best parts of this work. A new fresh start with endless possibilities. Staring at the blank screen and reflecting on our past experiences, our conversations with the client, transforming these thoughts on screen pixel by pixel… That’s how we truly understand the problem at hand and grow as designers. You may say I’m being a romantic, trying to stay in the past. No. Again, I build these tools and encourage everyone to leverage them. However, yes, I have concerns. Not about the efficiencies this technology brings, Concerns about; AI may raise a generation of weak-minded designers who lack an appreciation for the craft. * It is 2:14 am, I should go to sleep. CLIP 1 ​When I talk about this 30th anniversary, I wrote about my feelings in a note for my new album, SHOOTING MY LOVE. Looking back, there have been so many things that have happened since I was a child—when I first started this career and thought of this as such a special kind of life—to now, when that life has become so natural that it feels like breathing, and has come to make up such a big part of who I am. ​It’s been such a long journey, and I feel like I’ve finally reached a really wonderful moment in my life. For my 30th anniversary, I feel like I’ve reached a time when I can do something special—not just something I want to do on my own, but something that you can all enjoy and celebrate together with me. ​It feels like I’ve arrived at a future that is even better than the one I imagined when I was young… Actually, I have to sing after this, so I can’t cry. Really. If I cry, my throat will close up. That’s why, even while watching the congratulatory video earlier, I was trying my best to hold back my emotions, thinking that I could always watch it by myself later. ​I’m so grateful that I’ve arrived at a future that is even better than the one I imagined as a child. I honestly never imagined this. When I had my very first fan meeting, the ‘Binkan Tour,’ I only sang three songs. I truly never imagined that, just a few years later, I would be here celebrating a day like this in the form of a concert. And I never acted with the expectation of receiving awards. The things I once thought would happen ‘someday’ have been given to me in a way that is far more wonderful than the future I had imagined. So, right now, I’m just incredibly grateful. ​CLIP 2 ​I sincerely want to thank everyone who stayed until the very end and shared this time with me. Even though there were so many other performances happening over the weekend, and even though a fireworks festival was drawing a crowd of one million people, you still chose to come and see me. Thank you for making the time for me. And thank you as well to everyone watching this video. ​How long will I be able to continue being together with BINGOs? When we started BINGO 1st generation, I began it with such a happy heart. But around the time of the 3rd generation, I found myself wondering quite often, ‘How long will I be able to continue this?’ And when we were preparing for BINGO 4th generation this time, I also honestly wondered, ‘When would be the right time for all of us to say goodbye while we’re still happy together?’ Because, you know, I’m getting older, day by day and year by year. ​Even so, I want to tell all of you how incredibly grateful I am for the love you always send my way. Thinking of all of you, whenever I felt myself becoming a little complacent, I wanted to make sure I would never feel ashamed in front of you. So I pushed myself even harder. That was the kind of year I had, with those moments continuing day after day. I’ve always worked hard, but this year, as I celebrated my 30th anniversary, I was especially grateful to be able to share two projects with you because you wanted to celebrate this milestone with me. And I’ll continue preparing and working hard throughout the rest of this year so that I can share two projects with you next year as well. ​This universe that we created together, this world called ‘Euniverse’—that may be how this fan concert got its title, but my world will continue to expand. [ENG] ONEW as a guest speaker for kakaomobility Media Day 2026 * 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 4 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴 * hello, i’m ONEW! firstly, i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for inviting me here in such an important place. to be honest, i don’t often get a lot of chances to speak at a corporate event as such, so i think this is such a precious and great opportunity for me. uhm, and since this is my first time, i feel a little awkward, but even so, i still hope you may see me favorably. today, i would like to share what message i wish to convey to the fans as i was preparing & also promoting for this album. well then, i’ll start. last March, my 5th EP ‘Tough Love’ was released. i believe my activities for it wrapped up successfully. as i am currently having an asia fanmeeting tour, i’m continuously having precious encounters with fans from various countries. i directly participated in songwriting as well as composing in this album, and since this is an album i worked on myself, i think i regard it highly as a very meaningful album for me. and even to them, it’s a precious— and to also convey precious thoughts to everyone, one may also contemplate a lot how to convey those feelings, right? i also have done quite a lot of thinking about that myself, as to how i can convey those feelings to my fans, and even to a lot more people. so this time, i tried conveying my feelings to my fans in a new way. as we all know, we really use our smartphones a lot. i think you can see an overwhelming amount of contents from various apps when you use a smartphone. when i look on my smartphone, i’ve realized a lot that people skim past music & even ads, instead of it lingering in their memories. so i thought i needed a special way in order for more people to remember me. during my promotional period for this album, i also tried holding a pop-up store in Seongsu-dong like this one. i looked forward to the fans having a fun time with me as they also come to the popup store. so, in order to convey my feelings in a newer & more intentional way — after giving it much thought — as this is an app that everyone in our country uses, right? i have decided to collaborate with kakaomobility. let me start in earnest, by sharing how i was able to be “with” my fans by being “with” them in their mode of transit. i chose kakaoT with the mindset that it is the most frequently-used app by my fans, and also it can make my album recognized by a lot more people among the numerous albums & songs i have. for the sake of my fans who use kakaoT to have a keepsake of me for a long time, and for every people to have an impactful way of meeting me prior to riding a taxi — uhm just like what you can see in here — we slightly tweaked the app, personalizing kakaoT to “ONEW.” just as i anticipated, it seems a lot of my fans have really loved it a lot. these are screenshots i saw of them sharing it, and while Jjinggus let others know about it, so many people have shown support & remembered me. also, a lot of people loved my album, and such really huge reactions came to me to the point where even the people around me who took a taxi during the campaign week were like, “hey Onew, you’re the only person i can see” 😅 hence, i think this is also a very memorable promotion for me. #ONEW #온유 +

This is Chris Konawel talking about how bad things are getting in Gloucester County with the folks running unchecked Here is his statement from FB: "I have decided to file a lawsuit against Gloucester County and the Board of Commissioners for allegedly violating my rights as your elected official. For too long, Gloucester County has run unchecked and has done whatever it wants to residents, employees, and even elected officials. After the events of the January 2nd, 2026 Reorganization Meeting — where I, as a duly elected County Commissioner, was precluded from doing my job and not allowed to ask questions on the resolutions in front of me — enough is enough. Let’s start with this: The County decided its elected officials didn’t deserve to receive information on what we were voting on until just hours before the meeting. We’re talking millions of dollars in contracts, dozens of appointments that affect every resident in this county, and the hiring of a new County Administrator. An administrator making more than any Governor in the country — more than the VICE PRESIDENT of the United States. And we were told we couldn’t ask questions. Several members of the public came to speak and were told they could not. Public comment was avoided. The unelected County Counsel rammed the meeting through — and by the way, his own contract had expired and was on that very agenda. It is my job as your elected official to ask questions that will affect this county for years. My job is not to sit idly by and allow things to be shoved through to the detriment of the people I represent. Because of this, I filed a lawsuit alleging violations of the Open Public Meetings Act. I am doing this pro se — on my own. With no college degree or experience. I had attorneys willing to take the case, but I felt the County shouldn’t be charged thousands more because of this nonsense. I am not seeking monetary relief. I’m not even asking for my $350 filing fee back. I’m doing this because residents deserve better. Think about this: In the five years I’ve been on this board, there has not been a single “no” vote by anyone other than myself and Commissioner Nick DeSilvio. No debate. No discussion. Just rubber stamping. Those of you who are married — and love your spouse — ask yourself this: Have you gone five years without a single disagreement? How can five elected officials not have one disagreement in five years? We all know the answer — and it’s not good. And instead of defending his own actions, the County Counsel — who makes well into six figures — could not defend himself against me, a high school graduate with no legal training. So the County hired one of the most expensive political attorneys in the state to justify what happened. Think about that. That’s like trying to kill a fly with a shotgun — but I guess it’s easy when it’s not your money. All I’m asking the Court to do is declare the meeting improper and order that it be conducted properly — with questions and public comment — because residents deserve transparency. Court is this Friday, February 13th I ask all of you: share this. Let residents know what is happening behind the scenes. Let’s take our government back to the people — where it belongs. Technically is dead; long live Technically Some bittersweet news for you all today: after 5 years writing Technically and more than 100 posts about everything from APIs to data warehouses to Facebook DNS hacks, today I am (for the most part) shutting the Technically Substack down… …and replacing it with Technically 2.0, an amazing software product I’ve been working with David Krevitt on for the past 6 months. But first… For a newsletter that started with an innocent tweet while I was bored in Haneda airport, this thing has come pretty far. 70K+ subscribers, yada yada. But you’re here for the story so here it is. It was December 2019, I was traveling before moving to SF to start at Retool, and like I said, I was bored. Late 2019 – what an amazing time to start a newsletter! There weren’t that many of them out there. And then came 2020. Everyone was stuck at home with nothing to do but sign up for more and more Substacks, and talk about them on the internet. Every day, another one of your friends was announcing a newsletter on Twitter. It was the golden era, no doubt, and many people like me combined hard work, a good idea, and the old fashioned “right place right time” streak of luck to build a really nice Substack business. I’ll never forget the day Ben Thompson referenced Technically in Stratechery. I must have gotten 50 texts from friends. Everyone was reading Stratechery at the time…it was like becoming a made man. There was this almost communal vibe in the air with these newsletters. Everyone was reading the same stuff, talking about the same stuff. It was a scene is what it was. But by 2022 things were changing. People were outside again, and had less free time to read newsletters. Interest rates were going up, and people were working more (even in offices). In the paid Substack group chats, most of us were reporting stalling or negative growth, even though we hadn’t changed anything on our end. And with 50% churn rates on these subscriptions, if you weren’t growing you were dying. I’m listening to Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush” as I write this and it couldn’t be more fitting. Although I imagine Mr. Young himself would disapprove of the whole paid newsletter endeavor. What happened to newsletters? David and I call what’s going on “Substack Fatigue” – people are just tired of reading yet another newsletter, let alone paying for one. Newsletters are just not the thing anymore. There are some fast growing news ones focused on AI, but the same story is going to play out in a few years when everything cools down. Political newsletters are fully investing in video and podcasts. Newsletters are not the thing anymore. We rode a cultural wave and the wave is over. You don’t have to die, but you have to adjust. The wrench in this whole story is that Technically was only (very) part time for me. I’m pretty sure at one point I was generating the most revenue on Substack for someone who wasn’t focusing on their newsletter full time. Which is a sick flex no doubt, but was also a huge problem, because I just didn’t have the time or mental capacity to make the big moves required to reverse the trend. Technically started to slowly lose paid subscribers every month, but I was at peace with that. I was entering a new phase in my life, settling down a bit, enjoying spending time on cooking, cocktails, and music. Approaching 30 and feeling really good about everything. It’s OK for some things to be temporary, and I was content with Technically to continue to be useful to people…just not make as much money. But in the back of my head, I always knew that Technically had a lot more potential, and deserved more than I could give it. That there’s no reason this thing couldn’t be a $1M+/year business. I continue to believe that technical literacy is going to be one of the defining social problems of our era, and the progress in AI only makes this even more critical. It should be way more than a newsletter, it should be how everyone learns what the fuck is going on in this digital world. I needed some help. But I had a bad track record of getting people to work on Technically with me. It’s hard to share custody of your child. And I am extremely particular. I’m not always the easiest to work with. Worked with some contractors here and there, but never found a more long term partner. I’m extremely grateful that David Krevitt reached out to me when he did or this paragraph would end here. Instead, after regaling you with my boring tale for many paragraphs now, I can finally share what we’ve been working on since last year. It’s called Technically 2.0. It’s all of the content you know and love, but built as a piece of software specifically aimed at helping people get more technical. No more newsletter – it’s a learning platform now, complete with reading lists, bookmarks, a dictionary, and guided learning tracks. Our goal was to make a Wikipedia kind of experience: click around to follow your curiosity on whatever software you’re learning about. Technically is dead; long live Technically Some bittersweet news for you all today: after 5 years writing Technically and more than 100 posts about everything from APIs to data warehouses to Facebook DNS hacks, today I am (for the most part) shutting the Technically Substack down… …and replacing it with Technically 2.0, an amazing software product I’ve been working with David Krevitt on for the past 6 months. But first… For a newsletter that started with an innocent tweet while I was bored in Haneda airport, this thing has come pretty far. 70K+ subscribers, yada yada. But you’re here for the story so here it is. It was December 2019, I was traveling before moving to SF to start at Retool, and like I said, I was bored. Late 2019 – what an amazing time to start a newsletter! There weren’t that many of them out there. And then came 2020. Everyone was stuck at home with nothing to do but sign up for more and more Substacks, and talk about them on the internet. Every day, another one of your friends was announcing a newsletter on Twitter. It was the golden era, no doubt, and many people like me combined hard work, a good idea, and the old fashioned “right place right time” streak of luck to build a really nice Substack business. I’ll never forget the day Ben Thompson referenced Technically in Stratechery. I must have gotten 50 texts from friends. Everyone was reading Stratechery at the time…it was like becoming a made man. There was this almost communal vibe in the air with these newsletters. Everyone was reading the same stuff, talking about the same stuff. It was a scene is what it was. But by 2022 things were changing. People were outside again, and had less free time to read newsletters. Interest rates were going up, and people were working more (even in offices). In the paid Substack group chats, most of us were reporting stalling or negative growth, even though we hadn’t changed anything on our end. And with 50% churn rates on these subscriptions, if you weren’t growing you were dying. I’m listening to Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush” as I write this and it couldn’t be more fitting. Although I imagine Mr. Young himself would disapprove of the whole paid newsletter endeavor. What happened to newsletters? David and I call what’s going on “Substack Fatigue” – people are just tired of reading yet another newsletter, let alone paying for one. Newsletters are just not the thing anymore. There are some fast growing news ones focused on AI, but the same story is going to play out in a few years when everything cools down. Political newsletters are fully investing in video and podcasts. Newsletters are not the thing anymore. We rode a cultural wave and the wave is over. You don’t have to die, but you have to adjust. The wrench in this whole story is that Technically was only (very) part time for me. I’m pretty sure at one point I was generating the most revenue on Substack for someone who wasn’t focusing on their newsletter full time. Which is a sick flex no doubt, but was also a huge problem, because I just didn’t have the time or mental capacity to make the big moves required to reverse the trend. Technically started to slowly lose paid subscribers every month, but I was at peace with that. I was entering a new phase in my life, settling down a bit, enjoying spending time on cooking, cocktails, and music. Approaching 30 and feeling really good about everything. It’s OK for some things to be temporary, and I was content with Technically to continue to be useful to people…just not make as much money. But in the back of my head, I always knew that Technically had a lot more potential, and deserved more than I could give it. That there’s no reason this thing couldn’t be a $1M+/year business. I continue to believe that technical literacy is going to be one of the defining social problems of our era, and the progress in AI only makes this even more critical. It should be way more than a newsletter, it should be how everyone learns what the fuck is going on in this digital world. I needed some help. But I had a bad track record of getting people to work on Technically with me. It’s hard to share custody of your child. And I am extremely particular. I’m not always the easiest to work with. Worked with some contractors here and there, but never found a more long term partner. I’m extremely grateful that David Krevitt reached out to me when he did or this paragraph would end here. Instead, after regaling you with my boring tale for many paragraphs now, I can finally share what we’ve been working on since last year. It’s called Technically 2.0. It’s all of the content you know and love, but built as a piece of software specifically aimed at helping people get more technical. No more newsletter – it’s a learning platform now, complete with reading lists, bookmarks, a dictionary, and guided learning tracks. Our goal was to make a Wikipedia kind of experience: click around to follow your curiosity on whatever software you’re learning about. You can sign up on the Technically site ( You’re going to have to pay for it, but if your experience is anything like that of the other thousands of people who already have, you won’t regret it. Min Hee-jin (NewJeans Producer) NHK Music Interview 🔗 “Meticulously planned debut ‘Attention’” 🧢: When I was preparing to launch NewJeans, I really struggled with deciding what our first piece of content should be. I thought about it for a long time and considered many possibilities. It was a project that came with high expectations, and for me personally, it was also my first opportunity to prove myself. So how I presented it mattered enormously. Even down to the smallest details… like the impression the very first released photo might give, or what kind of impact we could make at launch. I thought hard about what kind of content would be the most effective… should it be a video or a photo? What time of day would be most effective to release it? I consider things like that very carefully. For example, the way a person experiences content at night versus during the day can feel quite different emotionally. So I even thought about those subtle aspects. Eventually, the conclusion I reached was: “Let’s make the most of our situation.” At the time, the members hadn’t been revealed, and no one knew how many of them there were or what kind of group this would be. So I wanted to maximize that curiosity. You know how the more something is concealed, the more curious people become? I wanted to build that curiosity to a peak and then release everything all at once. That’s why we decided not to release a teaser and instead go straight into a full music video. (This was actually inspired by Hyein suggesting we skip teasers.) I didn’t think still images or photos would be enough to fully convey the feeling I wanted to express. I felt that video and music together would evoke the emotional response I was looking for because people experience things synesthetically. When sound, image, and feeling come together, the emotional impact is stronger. I believed the best way to present the members’ images was through music and a moving picture… that’s why we led with a music video. In the debut music video, “Attention,” there’s a scene where the members act out a little drama. I paid very close attention to that moment and created music that would fit it precisely. For me, I don’t just make content… I design the entire process of how it should be shown for the greatest effect. And I believe that’s incredibly important. That first feeling someone gets when they encounter something… that emotion, that spark… is so important to me. I’m very detail-oriented, but I also value fun deeply. So rather than just releasing content, I want to enjoy the process leading up to it. Even when we released our second album, since we shot the entire music video across the country, the sequence of how we released the videos was critical for me. It’s hard to explain all this simply in an interview, but maybe some people noticed: the first content we released that time was actually a teaser for the last track, “ASAP,” and then we followed that with the full music video for “New Jeans,” which was the first track. That order was a carefully calculated strategy. It was designed to guide the audience’s emotional journey. Seeing the audience react just as I had hoped—that whole process was honestly so fun and thrilling for me. I think I really enjoy that kind of thing. ——— “How 'Ditto' was born” 🧢: People often praise the music of NewJeans, and I hear a lot of talk about genres. But actually, I don’t feel bound by genre at all. I love a wide variety of music. I’m not the type to insist on only one particular genre. What I love are songs that blend genres cleverly… those are my personal favorites. So going forward, my focus is not on genre but on whether something feels fresh and whether it can create an emotional moment. I don’t want to define what kind of music we make. And I think you have to experience the flow of the times to really understand what’s meaningful in a given moment. For instance, the song “Ditto” was chosen because it delivered emotion. It matched perfectly with the winter album concept I had envisioned, both in terms of timing and mood. When I hear a song, I tend to trust my gut. I have a pretty strong intuition for which songs will resonate. It’s not about objectively predicting what will be a “hit,” but about whether a song moves your heart… you can just feel it. Of course, my own taste plays a big role. But I think that’s actually my strength as a producer, not as a composer. When I hear a song, I can immediately picture the visual… what kind of story, what kind of vibe it could carry. That allows me to work faster. When I saw Director Shin Woo-seok’s interpretation of it, I thought, “Yes, that’s it.” That’s the kind of complete interpretation I look for. I believe the completion of a project comes from every person involved thinking about their part down to the final detail… the maximum quality they can bring out. My role is to unify and refine all of that. I draw out the essence of each person’s creativity, trimming away anything unnecessary. So the final product is something that’s polished and high-quality, just the way I envisioned it. That’s my working style. So it’s not like I’m fixated on retro or stuck in a particular style. I don’t think human taste has changed all that much. Things people liked in the past are the same things we like now. It’s just the form of expression that changes with time. I don’t feel bound by “past” or “present.” I don’t even think in those boundaries. To me, it’s all just good taste. You know how kids sometimes have their own little treasure boxes when they’re young? I think my work is kind of like that. I want to make things that never feel dated—that are timelessly enjoyable. ——— “Dance Expression and 'Hype Boy'” 🧢: I had a vision of what kind of girl group I wanted to create. That’s why I chose a song like “Hype Boy.” And to bring out that feeling, we created four different versions of the music video. Every choice had a purpose, everything was designed to maximize the experience of the song. “Hype Boy” is such a unique song. It has this strange, piercing melody that gives people chills in a good way. To emphasize that tingling feeling, I had to break away from the standard K-pop choreography format… you know, the kind where everyone is in perfect formation, doing synchronized moves. But our songs don’t suit that kind of choreography. Our dances are much harder. They require the body to move very naturally with the groove of the melody and beat. So I think our members are incredible. It’s not easy to express naturalness with your body, and you have to really enjoy it to make it look effortless. But they pulled it off so well. They’re still young, but they’re so talented. And through it all, I wanted to avoid making them look like they were performing just for business. I wanted them to show the pure joy and bright spirit that’s natural for people their age… genuine, carefree, radiant. ——— “The difference between NewJeans and conventional K-POP” 🧢: Ah, for me, it’s all about naturalness. And honestly, naturalness isn’t something you can produce or direct into existence. It comes from how I interact with the NewJeans members on a daily basis… what kind of environment they practice in, how they live and work. There are so many things that don’t appear on camera, but those unseen aspects have to be in place in order for true naturalness to come through. That’s why I wanted to create that kind of environment for the girls. And also, I wanted to shape my own working environment in that way too. Only then can something truly natural, something unforced and not overly stimulating, really come out. To begin with, I don’t believe anyone can be completely natural in front of a camera or under the gaze of others. It’s human nature to become self-conscious. That’s why I think naturalness is our strength, but it can’t be our concept. If you try to turn “naturalness” into a concept, it actually becomes incredibly artificial. So why do I place so much importance on naturalness? It’s because the girls are still so young. While other kids their age are going through school and having a wide range of life experiences, these members are living very different lives. Before they officially debuted, I told them, “This is like studying together with me.” Our standard contract is seven years, which is about the same length as going through high school and college in Korea: three years of high school and four years of university. So I told them, “We’re going to school together. We’re learning together.” And in that sense, I want to be a good teacher to them. They’re also surrounded by an incredibly professional team, people they’d never meet even in a traditional school setting. I’ve never really liked the word idol. These days, that word is used more like a job title, something manufactured by the industry, and it’s far from its original meaning. To me, the term idol feels misplaced. It doesn’t really reflect who these artists are or what they represent. And I’m not the kind of person who clings to labels or terminology. In fact, what I really want is to break the stereotypes and preconceptions that come with the idol industry. I want us to show people something different… to challenge those assumptions and redefine what this can look like. That’s the kind of mindset I have. ——— “Isn't it difficult for the members to express "naturalness"?” 🧢: There were a lot of things I considered when forming the group. First and foremost, I think it was important that the members shared a similar vibe… like how I prefer working with staff who align with my taste. It’s important for the crew to be on the same wavelength. And by that, I mean more than just getting along… it also extends to shared values. Of course, people won’t all share identical values, but when we’re facing in a similar direction, everything becomes easier. It’s also just more efficient to work with people who have overlapping tastes. Now, when it comes to our members, they each have their own individual tastes, but those preferences are still in development. Just like we all went through as kids, they’re still growing, still discovering themselves. They’re not in a finished state. So we didn’t cast them based on some complete or polished version of themselves. It wasn’t like, “This person is fully formed, let’s pick her.” It was more like, “Ah, she has potential, there’s something there.” That sense of a spark… those were the kinds of subtleties I paid attention to. I didn’t cast anyone just because they were pretty or could sing well. I don’t work like that. I really value those finer, more delicate aspects. Even the design of the light stick wasn’t something that came from a long strategic planning session… it was actually a spontaneous idea. I didn’t sit down and think, “Let’s make a light stick like this.” NewJeans didn’t have a fixed logo, but I felt we still needed a unifying symbol. So one night, just before going to sleep, I kept thinking about it. Right before dozing off, I started sketching and it turned into a rabbit’s face. When I drew it out, the shape just continued and turned into a bunny. To me, the NewJeans members are like little bunnies… playful, innocent. Their visuals also resemble rabbits in a way. And rabbits symbolize abundance. That made me think: “Ah, maybe our fans will multiply like rabbits. That would be great.” So that bunny face became both a symbol for the members and the fans. The image came to me all at once, and I imagined a venue completely filled with bunny light sticks. That vision led to the creation of the light stick itself. Since I always prioritize fun in everything I do, the next idea that came to mind was making the light stick customizable. I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if fans could personalize their bunny?” That way, each rabbit would represent a different person’s character. So we included accessories, allowing everyone to customize their own bunny. It’s symbolic of all these different bunnies coming together and enjoying a good time as one. Our light stick has a big head, so when it’s used in a concert hall, it lights up in heart shapes that are very visible. That was the image I really wanted. And that bunny face… it’s also a heart. It represents both the face of NewJeans and our hearts. It’s the love we’re showing to our fans, and the love we want to receive in return. Every time I see it, I feel deeply moved. It’s very emotional for me because it’s a perfect realization of what I envisioned. As someone with a background in creative direction, there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing an idea materialize exactly the way you imagined it. That kind of work holds deep meaning for me. ⸻ 🧢: Looking back, I think in 2023 we were able to achieve almost everything we had hoped for. I’m so incredibly grateful for that. Of course, this is an ongoing challenge… and the better things go, the more pressure there is. That’s why I always try to return to my original mindset. Just like I tell the members, I try to remind myself of the beginning and keep things fun. Back then, when we were first putting out content, planning the music, and working on visuals, I felt this thrill… this rush of excitement. I don’t want to forget that feeling. So I try hard to engrave that emotion into every album we release. I’m constantly working to rediscover the joy in all of it. Just like I tell the members, I try to remind myself of the beginning and keep things fun. Back then, when we were first putting out content, planning the music, and working on visuals, I felt this thrill… this rush of excitement. I don’t want to forget that feeling. So I try hard to engrave that emotion into every album we release. I’m constantly working to rediscover the joy in all of it. So for 2024, I hope everyone can look forward to us with fresh anticipation. And even if we come out with something completely new, I hope people will receive it warmly and with excitement. That’s really my deepest wish. 🙏

This is years of success. I think six were good, one was bad. I had five stories, seven – five good. Yeah, I had a total of seven stories on the front page of The New York Times. It’s not bad. Now I average about three or four a day, all different topics, all bad. Everything bad. But here we are. I mean, here we are, in fact, when I’m finished, I’m going right back to the Oval Office, so I have to be doing okay, but we are all doing good together. That’s why tonight, to show just how much I care about the press, and I want to save your ratings. I’m pleased to announce my intention to – and this is a somewhat of a scoopy intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States. I will be doing that. I will be having an official. In fact, I think I have -- yeah. I won, I won three times. Now I’m gonna do it again. Thank you. I’m gonna do it. It should be easy. I’m getting very good at running for president. Now, I won 3 times, did very well the second time, by the way. It’s a rigged election, but we don’t have to talk about it, you know, it’s interesting when you come back. and you do a good job like we did, and you don’t care about it so much, but we do have to tighten up these elections because they really are in seriously bad shape. But on a serious note, I want to say once again, I just want to thank you all. It’s been an interesting evening. I didn’t really know what to expect, and it’s far worse than I actually thought, but if you want to know that, but I didn’t know exactly what to expect, and I’ve made a lot of friends tonight. I’ve made a lot of good friends tonight, probably made some enemies also, but it’s been an experience that is something that we’ve all shared together because we’re all in this room tonight because most of us went through a period of – of – trauma from just a short while ago, and you know, some people said they wanted to come but they were afraid to come and you people weren’t afraid to come.” “There were a lot of people that said, Jacqui, they don’t really, you know, they didn’t have the courage to come, and we don’t want that to happen, and I’m sure it’s not going to happen. Look at all that shooting we’re able to do from space. That was my baby, but all of the branches of you couldn’t get people to join. This was three years ago, and last week, you probably saw some of you wrote the story. We have the single best recruiting of people into our armed forces than we have ever had in the history of our country. We have – they are brimming over its great people, and that’s a big statement. And that also goes for the police departments where they were having a tremendous problem recruiting. You can’t get into a police department now if you’re looking for a job, it’s very tough, and that also includes our great fire departments because people forget about them. They’re unbelievable the job they do. So, I just want to thank you. Look, we’re on the – cusp of something big, and I call it, and there’s – being very serious when I say this, that this is the golden age of America.” “We have $19.2 trillion being spent in our country. A record was China, I think it was 10 years ago, three trillion. Trillion is a lot. Four years, they went less than one trillion under Biden, and we have 19.2 trillion and this is a period of actually 13 months, not even current, because we hear a little bit longer than that, but that was, as of reporting dates, $19.2 trillion is being spent. Factories are coming. Toyota just announced they’re going to be building the biggest car plant in the world. They’re leaving Mexico. They’re coming here. Tariffs did that. Tariffs did that. And maybe November 5th did that to the election, but our country is doing things that nobody’s ever seen before, and it is true we were, and you’ve heard me say this, we were a dead country two years ago. Other leaders would see me, and they’d say it’s a miracle. I come from the same streets as the communities I fight for. I understand what it means to feel ignored, talked down to, and treated as politically disposable. I’ve seen working-class families demonised. I’ve seen ethnic minority communities exploited by extremists. Even when they branded me racist and far right, and dragged me into police cells whilst Andy Burnham fronted the cover up of the gang rape of children, I continued to lead the campaign. Despite all their lies, smears and attempts to silence me, you now know the truth. The industrial scale gang rape of our nation's children is not a far right conspiracy. The cover up is real. They sacrificed our children at the alter of multiculturalism and sold little White girls to postal vote supplying Pakistani men in exchange for votes. Stand alongside me. A few week back Olive Garden launched its Pasta Pass. It entitles the owner of this pass 13 weeks of never ending pasta for about $100 plus tax. But the catch is like how it is at a buffet. The one who pays for it in their name is only the one that can use it, this eliminates sharing it with others. This man is upset that Olive Garden requires a photo ID with each use to verify the customer is in fact the card holder. He thinks anybody who buys it should be able to allow all their friends and family to use it too, is he right in his opinion? My family enjoys the Korean BBQ places and normally most of them are all you can eat, the price is per person as expected. However on occasion I will see people try to cheat the system. I saw a group of four people walk in and one ordered only sushi while the other got the all you can eat. The other two didn’t order anything. One of them shared the sushi with the other which is fair because it’s a one time purchase but the person who bought the all you can eat tried to share the meat with the rest of the table. They would eat off his plate. The server caught on quickly and when the bill came they were outraged that each person was charged with all you can eat. They argued that the others were only trying the meat to see if it was good so they could decide if they would get it next time. Yet the man who paid for it got 13 plates of meat obviously to share. I left before I could see what happened but they tried everything from getting loud to asking for a manager. Deals like these are always per person, the restaurant would lose too much money if they only charged one person while 4 ate obviously. The idea of an all you can eat was always so easy for me to grasp, surely these people aren’t stupid, but are they deliberately trying to cheat the system? In the ads they don’t mention the price is each person which is a loophole I’ve seen work.
