Dude this is gorgeous. The oscillations weren't that bad at all, and they make perfect sense from a control perspective (lower lift/control authority at lower speed = lag). Super fun to think about. Perfect parachute timing. I continue to be incredibly impressed with your work.

For The Love of Control Systems Episode 2 In Episode 1, we balanced a stick on a cart. That was control in 1D. We tried keeping something unstable from tipping over while the world pushes back. Now, we lift the problem into 3D. A quadcopter must manage pitch, roll and yaw at the same time while following a demanding path. We hit it with gusts, change in payload in mid-flight and briefly we reduce its available flight authority. All Top Gun jokes aside, a sortie at that age is no joke. As a friend, who used to fly says: "Dude just for this I have respect for this guy.. I told you I was learning flying planes in Palo Alto right and those were just midwing cesnas.. even if the Tejas does a low end 2G pull during a yaw-pitch-roll, that 73 yr old man would get a stroke! So, hats off. No shit!!! I am giggling as it is kinda cool though a PM being able to do this."

Let's get spinning. I am in a MAT (Multi Axis Trainer or Mercury Astronaut Trainer) at the Marshall Space Flight Center. This trainer was used to expose the Mercury astronauts to excessive rates in roll, pitch and yaw should the capsule experience the same in orbit. The aim was to expose the astronauts to such rates so that they can control the space capsule in spite of being under such extreme rates. Though the requirement never arose during the Mercury program and the training was stopped, Neil Armstrong experienced such a situation years later. While docking with the Agena vehicle during Gemini 8 mission, a thruster malfunction caused excessive rates. Armstrong had to takeover manually and bring the situation under control. Incidentally you don't feel sick in this trainer as your stomach is at the center always. However, if you were to close your eyes the brain would play tricks on you due to the sensory conflict and you may feel nauseous. Something I was not ready to try. Watch as he: - Looks at a focal point to get back to the present-moment - Uses his breath to lock in and slow everything down - Takes control of his self-talk to direct his thoughts I firmly believe that the 10-15 seconds in-between every pitch are more important than the pitch itself. This time needs to be dominated by ballplayers. A great way to do that is for players to have a set pre-pitch routine that leads to them taking control of their thoughts, their breath, their self-talk, and their focus. This will help them regulate their emotions, reset, gain self-control, block out distractions, and maintain composure during high-pressure situations. Competition can be chaotic and unpredictable. So, the key is for players to have a system in place to deal with adversity not IF, but WHEN it comes their way so that they aren’t surprised by it.

"When we get to a million deliveries a day, Zipline will be doing somewhere between 40 and 80 times as many flights in the US, in commercial airspace, as all other airlines combined. When you talk about all the auxiliary systems that have to be built, there is a huge transformation that's gonna have to happen in air traffic control. People are really excited about electrification of vehicles. People are excited about autonomous vehicles. The reality is as those transformations occur, there are gonna be 10 times as many autonomous vehicles in the air as there are using these teeny, archaic, constrained things that we call roads. The sky is a big place. It makes sense to utilize it. You can give Earth back to humans. You can make neighborhoods quieter, safer, less pollution, less traffic. You can make huge improvements to Earth if we can more effectively utilize the sky. This is gonna require huge transformation of how we think about air traffic control in the US, and it means that we need to design it with AI and autonomy in mind, rather than the way it was designed, which was in 1950 using pencils and paper and note cards, and a human looking out trying to watch the airplane."

This young man on the mound, a senior in high school, started the game and threw one pitch in the game on senior day. The back story is that he was injured by a line drive in March ending his career with a brain bleed. The young man up to bat is a senior and the son of the mom who filmed this. He agreed to not swing at the pitch. They said there wasn't a dry eye in the ballpark. This game is so much greater than that little white ball! In a world of such chaos and hate, I love, love, love this so much.❤️ How can you not be romantic about baseball?

Cameron Young is playing with a golf ball that would allegedly be compliant with the new roll back rules that will come into effect in a few years time. He was asked about it ahead of the PGA Championship and he says every player in the game is sacrificing distance for control, and he put it in play at the Wyndham last year which he won. “I think I put it in play the same reason that everybody else plays the ball that they play. I hit it during a ball test, one of the Titleist facilities probably close to two years ago and didn't know anything about it and just kind of say, hey, what's that one? Because I liked the flight. “Then as things progressed, I was able to test it last year at Wyndham, able to put that in play, and it's been there since. “Obviously there is no conforming list. I wasn't aware that it would have -- I suppose I read something that said it passed that test, but I wasn't aware of that until very recently. “So at no point was that a consideration. It was just really me trying to optimize my golf, and it's the ball that seems to work the best for me.” He then was asked whether he lost distance with it compared to other balls he’s tested: “Not particularly. I don't think any of us are out really here playing the ball that goes the farthest. I think you'd struggle to find a single person that's doing that. We're all sacrificing a certain amount of things that we feel are worth it, control with irons, control with wedges. For me, that's the biggest thing is being able to control spin, and this is the ball that does the best for me.” Finally he can as asked whether this ball goes further than the one he was using: “No, I hit very similar, yeah. It's much more -- the driver is kind of the easiest thing to deal with, I feel like. For me to get it where it needed to be, I had to just add a little bit of spin, and it kind of comes out at a perfectly playable range. “For me, the biggest thing, like I said, is the irons. This ball is easier to control with the irons. Remarkably, test pilot Lars Rådeström survived, suffering only a fractured elbow. The crash was traced to pilot-induced oscillation, gusty winds and immature fly-by-wire control software. The failure exposed critical weaknesses that Saab would go on to fix as the Gripen's flight-control system matured. Fast-forward to today, and the Gripen has evolved into a highly capable multirole fighter prized for its agility, advanced avionics, electronic warfare capabilities and ability to operate from dispersed road bases. I think this is a fair statement: Golfers - while putting a 30 footer - are consciously reducing anatomical ranges of motion in the many joints and limbs from the hands to the feet - especially when compared to the range of motions used during a 300 yard drive. You WOULD THINK that reducing these anatomical ranges of motion while putting, a better overall control of the face-to-path relationship would emerge. Most golfers would ASSUME that their face-to-path control would be noticeably better on 10 30-footers when compared to their face-to-path control on 10 full powered drives. This HAS TO MAKE SENSE because the rate of closure of the club face on a drive is in the 2500° per second range while the rate of closure of the club face on a 30 foot putt is in the 30° per second range. Well, lo and behold, it does not. And in fact, many high level golfers show better face-to-path control with their driver at 115 mph than their face-to-path control with their putter at 6 mph. So, this begs the question for golf instructors and competitive golfers - in the pursuit of more accuracy from shot to shot, is it wise to attempt to reduce your own personal rate of closure with any club - driver through putter - in the hopes that it will bring “better face-to-path control” which would lead to more accurate shot outcomes? Start thinking. It may mean a lot to your personal journey towards better golf.

I screened this latest AI short in Paris for the Prompt Club alongside a great showcase for French AI filmmaking talent. I think we have reached a tipping point where the quality of the models is no longer an obstacle to telling the story. Sure, there are problems with detail at distance, dynamic movement, and more than one character speaking or doing complex movement at the same time but nothing a director with awareness of the models can’t overcome. Kling motion control is a massive unlock, in this short I am playing all the characters so it’s quite broad because I am not an actor, but I have seen it used with professional actors and it captures real nuanced human performance, with everything that brings. I will be employing professional actors for my films in the future. This was made predominantly with Kling 2.5, and 2.6 motion with some seedance shots on the wider 2-shots. We are there, now go make your thing!

An excerpt from my new book 'Breaking Point': " On December 30, both of us realised just how traumatised we were when we visited Labadi Beach to hang out. We spotted a lady selling jollof rice, and we decided to get some jollof and chicken. The lady had a little daughter who couldn’t have been more than 4 years old. While waiting for our food a little distance away from them, we spotted 2 Ghanaian policemen walking up the beach toward us, dressed in black and holding AK-47s, just like their Nigerian counterparts. Ralph and I beckoned at the little girl who was playing near us, telling her to see who was coming. Instinctively, we felt a need to warn the innocent little soul that danger was coming, and she should run to her mom for protection. Instead, the little girl looked up, saw the policemen, and skipped joyfully toward them, utterly unafraid and screeching in delight with her full set of milk teeth showing, “Police! Police! Police!” The policemen on their part calmly acknowledged her, returned her smile, and even stopped to play with her for a few moments before continuing on their way. Not a single word was said at that moment, but when Ralph and I looked at each other with our mouths open in utter amazement, nothing needed to be said. It turned out that being mortally terrified of police to the point of using them to scare young children was a uniquely Nigerian experience - one that we were both completely, hopelessly, and maybe permanently marinated in. For everyone else, there was no such conditioning. Apparently, it wasn’t that the world outside was that much better than Nigeria. But it was that much less terrible.
