By utilizing "boomless cruise" technology, next-generation aircraft could travel at speeds above Mach 1 without disruptive sonic booms reaching the ground. “Advances in aerospace engineering, materials science, noise reduction, and new operational concepts will eliminate the old sonic boom,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. The FAA aims to finalize the new regulations by mid-2027. The video shows a landing by the legendary Concorde in Atlanta during its operational years.

China has also agreed to suspend or cancel its “non-tariff countermeasures” imposed on the US since April 2.

By opting for a simpler booster landing profile, SpaceX can concentrate on testing and refining the Block 2 Starship design, particularly its heat shield and reentry capabilities, without the added complexity of a tower catch.
