With this week’s storms, California is taking advantage of opportunities to capture and store water that supports the state’s long-term water supply goals — made possible through strong partnerships between the state and local agencies. This may come as a shock to a lot of people… but this woman and her family intentionally flood their entire backyard to water their trees and grass. It’s called flood irrigation — they literally let the whole yard fill up with water on purpose. She walks through and shows just how full it gets, and says people are always surprised this is how they do it. The water is untreated canal water (not city drinking water) that’s specifically allocated for this purpose. Have you ever seen (or used) flood irrigation like this? I've never seen or heard of this before.

As of 5:30 a.m. EDT Thursday, the White River at Anderson was at 17.9 feet and rising. Flood stage is 10 feet. The latest National Weather Service forecast calls for the river to crest near 23 feet this evening, reaching major flood stage and approaching the flood of record. Over the weekend, DWR Watershed Protection Specialists worked closely with our State and local partners including over 400 California Conservation Corps members, LA County Public Works, and California Governor's Office of Emergency Services to stabilize burn scars to protect watersheds in downstream communities and guard storm drain systems from ash and debris. The teams staged and placed approximately 15,000 units of k-rail, 700,000 linear feet of compost socks, and 50,000 gravel bags to prepare for incoming wet weather and safeguard the Los Angeles community. #California #Wildfires #Watershed #LosAngeles

Zaldy Co to the Senate inquiry into the flood control scandal.
