For players to progress through the #premierleague Academy system they need personality…Far too many youth ⚽️ sessions are focused on the team…we need to challenge & force players to stay on the ball. Challenge the players to develop their ⚽️ personality… #ballmastery

@helpfulmatt That’s the problem with not being able to play grassroots football when signed to an academy. Where do you get to express yourself as the best player in the group & try/fail different skills or decisions?

Football is about match situations. A 1v1 is a frequent match situation, but it's not the ultimate one. This clip shows great dribbling skills, but it also shows very poor defending skills. Both phases are fundamental for both set of players.

Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi… taking no prisoners 😂😭 🗣️“We need to build a new team. We don’t need to change too many players… we have 10-12 players who are good enough as players & people to stay. We need to complete the squad with 1st level players.”

Lots happening in this clip?… Key takeaways though… We need to let players spend more time on the ball. Too much focus on overloaded practices, rondos and positional play inevitably leads to quick play and Group possession focus type outcomes. Also when do you let your players practice moving at full speed with the ball? This is where ball Mastery comes in and 1v1, 2v2 & 3v3 practices. I say the players I work with all the time. You should be able to move as quickly with the ball as you do without it, but unfortunately most Team sessions the ⚽️becomes like a hot potato.

BEING TOO UNSELFISH CAN HURT YOUR TEAM We want players to be unselfish, put the team first, and do whatever it takes to get the win. However, we do have players that are unselfish to a fault. Meaning they miss opportunities to score or create for themselves. They think they are doing what’s best for the team, but in reality they are hurting their team bc they are passing up on the best opportunity. Be unselfish, but understand the times that you need to get yours!

Is there too much passing in Academy Football? Lots of opinions on this…here’s my take 🫡 I think there’s too much emphasis on group possession generally particularly in the younger age groups… We need to focus a bit more on individual possession and encouraging players…

Points aren’t the separator… Players are so consumed with how many points they average, and OBVIOUSLY points set the level… you need to be able to score it. But when you dive in to separating players that score the ball at the same rate… it’s about HOW they go about it. How are they impacting the game beyond the scoring? How are they getting their shots, and how many shots are they taking? If players focus on the how, their game becomes more well rounded and efficient 👍👍

NEW: Professional baseball team 'York Revolution' turns on their players after they were forced to forfeit after the players refused to wear LGBT jerseys for 'Pride Night.' The Pennsylvania team threw their players under the bus for refusing to put on the gay uniforms. "To be clear, this action by the players is completely inconsistent with our vision as the Most Welcoming Place in York," the team said in a statement. The team's forfeit comes after the MLB issued a warning after San Francisco Giants players wrote Bible verses on their gay hats. Glad to see players are finally standing up to this radical cult.

SHOOTING … SIMPLIFIED We love to complicate shooting. I try to simplify everything for players so that they can build on it. For shooting, I’ve been using this simple progression. If players have the ability to get behind the ball, under the ball, and through the ball… they have the ability to shoot the ball with ease. Sync that with their stance and timing … they’ll be a shooter!!!
