Eastern Europe is set to experience the strongest cold spell of this winter so far, especially in Ukraine and Belarus. 🥶🧐 Temperatures will drop below −25 °C around the turn of the week, which is 10 to 20 °C lower than is typical for the region: However, the mass of Arctic air will not spread much farther into Europe and will stall over Eastern Europe. The temperature evolution over the next five days is shown in the video below.

Unusually warm weather is already affecting the southwest of the continent. In Galicia, Spain, the Coruña Airport weather station recorded a high of 37.7 °C over the weekend, marking the station's highest temperature ever. In the second half of the week, exceptional heat will spread across much of Europe, as very warm air from the south gradually moves farther north along the western side of a high-pressure system. The heatwave is likely to be most pronounced in Spain and France, where temperatures could climb above 40 °C over the weekend, with local anomalies exceeding the long-term average by up to 15 °C. It is still unclear how long the hot weather will last, but some models suggest it could continue into next week. ⚠️ I’m not liking the way this Winter Storm is trending for our Texas brotheren.... One aspect that isn’t being talked about enough is the combination of significant Ice Accumulations followed by days of Brutal Cold. If Texas were to receive even a fraction of the ice currently being shown, widespread power outages would become a real concern. With frigid air rushing in behind the storm, temperatures could remain at or below freezing for days, making recovery much harder. This will not be as cold as the deadly Winter Storm of 2021, but the dangerous combination of ice and prolonged cold will still be there. 🌡️ Some areas could see temperatures 30 to 40 degrees below average after the storm, which would compound impacts if outages occur. I’m not saying panic, my Texas brotheren, but this is a situation worth paying attention to and preparing for if current trends hold. 👀 I’ll be watching this LIKE A HAWK 🦅

There is NO END IN SIGHT to this brutally Cold pattern, with multiple waves of Arctic air likely to continue pouring into the U.S. well into mid-December. The Polar Jet Stream will keep diving south again and again, dragging down round after round of frigid Canadian air. This is the kind of cold we normally see in the heart of January - seeing it this early is highly unusual. Temperatures will run 10, 20, even 30 degrees below normal, and some locations may drop below zero for a prolonged stretch. Wind chills will be even worse. Bottom line: ⬇️ The cold isn’t going anywhere. Bundle up… it’s going to be a long, frigid stretch. 🥶

Based on preliminary data, there have been around 50 March high temperature records broken since March 17 and more than 150 daily high temperature records broken. Record setting temperatures are expected to continue over the next several days. Most areas will see temperature departures of 25 to 35 degrees higher than normal for this time of year. However, some locations in the central Plains on Saturday could see departures exceed 40 degrees from normal! Overnight low temperatures will also be well above average, providing little relief from the heat. The early time of year, prolonged nature of this heat wave, and limited seasonal acclimation will increase the risk of heat impacts especially among sensitive populations or those without effective cooling. Adjust plans to limit strenuous outdoor activities to early morning hours, drink plenty of fluids, and seek air conditioned spaces. For more heat safety tips visit:
