The game was built around tank controls and even if they take some getting used to, it changes how you play the game. The limited movement adds tension and makes positioning more important. You can like one more than the other but their was never a problem with tank controls or fixed camera angles either. Just like there's nothing inherently bad about turn based combat.

Vampire Hunter D got a PS1 game based on the same book as the Bloodlust movie. It basically plays like Resident Evil but with melee combat and spells. It's genuinely on the upper-tier of RE clones with very decent level design and good voice acting. I recommend.
