Friedberg: DC Elites Must Take DOGE More Seriously david friedberg on E217: "You hear Elon Musk talking to all the members of the cabinet and he's pretty clear cut, like, 'Hey, we've got to save this government, it's in a debt spiral, we have to fix this problem.'" "And...

Do you support President Trump's executive order creating DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency?

DOGE’s $65B in savings from smart workforce cuts and contract cancellations show the urgent need for fiscal reform. While USAID and Education saw necessary reductions, the $8M contract misreported as $8B highlights the need for accountability. DC’s money-grabbing mentality clashes with DOGE’s push for efficiency, proving entitlement reform is key to tackling the $36T debt. Musk’s team is enforcing accountability, but Congress’s addiction to pork persists. The DEBT Act’s transparency measures are a start, but real discipline requires cutting waste and runaway entitlements.

@friedberg @elonmusk Friedberg's onto something. If DC elites are finally waking up to DOGE, maybe they’re also starting to realize that crypto isn't just a playground for memes. With our government in a debt spiral, it's time to rethink how we handle currency.

@friedberg @elonmusk I really don't think DC elites expected DOGE to come in like the wrecking ball they have. I don't think many of expected it to happen this quickly. The swamp is starting to slowly circle the drain.

@friedberg @elonmusk David has been clear on this issue for years. I’d love his take on how the press can endlessly fake outrage about DOGE. As the fourth pillar of our democracy, their inability to discuss nuance is as big a problem as the elected officials. @friedberg

@friedberg @elonmusk Congrats, you all played yourselves. Why don’t we just go ahead and start cutting all of the corporate subsidies that we hand out? If Medicaid and Social Security on the block, why the hell should we support private businesses taking our tax dollars?

Democrats voter says “I will never vote Democrat again” “For almost 5 decades, I have been a liberal Democrat. I had raised my children to be Democrats and believe in the Democratic Party, all of that. And it took for this last election for me to have to sit down and do some real research and find out, like, who am I truly going to vote for and why? And it wasn't until a year ago, maybe a little over a year ago, that I realized they've been lying to us this whole time. We've been getting screwed this whole time. And the devastation that I felt, I cannot put into words. It was as if I was in a marriage with someone for 30 plus years, and I come to find out that they don't even love me. They got a whole new family of immigrants that they care about more — Being a Democrat is like being in a very toxic and abusive relationship. And I just pray that more and more of my people get out of that toxic and abusive relationship and conform to the true conservative values that you were raised with We were raised with these values. Man and woman should be married. You don't just go ahead and keep on getting pregnant about everybody just because you can kill them. Your body is sacred. You love and you worship God and you respect the house of the Lord. We all know that. All of these things, family first, family, God, faith, all that's first. All of these things were taught to us as we were being raised. In regards to who raised us or how we were being raised. This is what has been breded into us. So for the Democratic Party to make us try to make us accept all this other nonsense, like kids being able to transition and putting all of taking the Bible out of the prayer out of schools and all of this nonsense, you got to take the jab if you want to work. No, we were not raised like that. That is not part of who we are. If we truly want to return to who we are, you got to get over there with them conservatives, because that's where it's at. That's who we truly are. And they love us over there.”

Bakersfield California City Councilman Zack Bashirtash loses it on Democrats ignoring the homeless problem and wasting taxpayer money “Enough is enough. We've got to take this serious, team. We've got to take it serious. I saw more camps coming to the city council meeting today than I ever have in my entire life taking this route. It's a problem that affects all of us, and we've got to take it serious When the agendas come up and there's items on here that don't, that it would be a waste of money, that it's not money we need to spend in light of what we've seen today, in light of what our community is going through — We've got to fix it. The state isn't coming to help. They're shutting down the prisons. They have no more mental health facilities being opened up. And we're going to sit here and celebrate the fact that we're picking up thousands of pounds of trash while these degenerates are ruining our community. They're criminals. They're thieves. They're destroying our town. Our kids deserve better. Our business owners deserve better. Our families deserve better. I think about the moms that are walking, we care about them, walking their kids past these parks dealing with all of this stuff they have to deal with. Like it's a third world darn country. Like we’re not paying millions of dollars in taxes…” “We cannot waste money on one more frivolous thing that is not going to change the trajectory of our city from becoming a run down cesspool where we just call the homeless people anymore or thieves anymore or people think they can just Take advantage of our community and not be held accountable. We have to be the team that brings accountability back into our community so that our community knows that we are actually fighting for them. Our business owners know that we're fighting for them — I have nothing left to say.”

lando talking about how special it feels for him to win constructors’ titles after starting with the team in tougher times and their dominance 🥹❤️‍🩹 “i mean another one is just a great thing. it's another constructor feels the same as the first, because to get the first was quite an achievement if you still look at where we were just three years ago. we've overtaken every team in terms of development. we've outdone them by a long way in terms of development, and in a time when it's almost harder to do than ever, with more restrictions and less wind tunnel time, all of those different things, budget cap, that's really been more in our favor over the last five years comparing to the budget that the other teams could run at. but in a time when it should be more difficult than ever to dominate, that's exactly what the team have done and given us, by a long way, the best car on the grid. i mean, it's always a very nice thing to say. every driver that gets to say that always puts a smile on your face. but we've also done very well as a team in terms of drivers between oscar and myself pushing each other and delivering every single weekend. and you don't see that on any other team. so i think we're also very proud of that as drivers. but for me, i've been with mclaren since i started. especially it was a very different time and different place then to where we are now. so that journey makes it more special to know the downs because that's a lot of what it was back then to see the rise that we've had to see the teamwork, the changes, the atmosphere difference and the leadership from zak, from andrea especially, has turned things around and made us as a team the best in the world. and that's something that many people don't ever get to say”

🚨Should the US create a Sovereign Wealth Fund? Chamath and Friedberg discuss Chamath: “I think that we should start a sovereign wealth fund right now.” “The great news is that these Trump tariff deals come with huge amounts of capital that these other countries have committed to spending inside the United States.” “We've exceeded $1T of inbound capital on the investment side. We get 90% of the upside.” “A lot of that capital should be the seed capital for a sovereign wealth fund.” Friedberg: “The concern I have is anytime we create a new income stream at the federal government, or we have some sort of growing asset that you mark up on the book, someone tends to invest ahead of the curve on that.” “Meaning someone takes that and they're like, ‘Oh, great, I can spend more now.’ I mean, we even saw this in California (with) Gavin Newsom and the budget skyrocketed as the income went up.” “Rather than take the surplus and book it for a rainy day, they went and spent ahead of it, and then all of a sudden they had a huge deficit.” “Which is what happened with Social Security is, it's like, okay, all these people are providing this income every year to the federal government, which they're supposed to be paying into their Social Security Trust Fund, which is gonna go bankrupt sometime between 2030 and 2033.” “But then what happened is we raided the coffers, we took all that money, and we started spending it on random new programs.” “And the problem is, by giving the government more assets, by giving the government more income, we set ourselves up for a circumstance where the federal government, the Congress says, ‘Great, we got more money to spend. Let's do X, Y, and Z program and let's do this. Let's build a high speed train. Let's do this. These are all good for American people.’” “And all of a sudden, you don't actually solve any real problems. And this is why my argument is that we should use it to fill the hole that we have, for example, in Social Security.” “And that needs to become an asset that's strictly used as an offset on Social Security, because if you don't put it in that box, it just becomes another spending mechanism.”

🚨Marjorie Taylor Greene warns that the Genius Act is an "Orwellian" bill with "a back door open to a central bank digital currency" She says Trump "yelled" at her to vote yes on it. "It's so 1984 to think... government could flip a switch & turn off our ability to buy & sell" Shannon Joy Marjorie Taylor Greene 🇺🇸 ---------------Partial transcription of clip---------------- "And a lot of people have not paid enough attention to this bill. The Genius Act was the whole crypto bill. There were the— There was Genius and there was Clarity. These are the two bills that were the entire crypto system totally getting basically federally approved, regulated, and made into law. "Well, I had a big problem with the Genius Act. As a matter of fact, there was a core group of us, conservatives that had a problem with it, because in the language of the bill, it basically very vaguely had a back door open to a central bank digital currency, which I'm 1000% against. "Most Americans don't want a central bank digital currency. We want control of our money. We should want control of your money. And, it's very Orwellian. It's so 1984 to think that our government could flip a switch and turn off our, our ability to buy and sell. "So I got called to the principal's office on this one. First, first we had to go to Johnson's office. And then we had a bunch of late-night meetings. They love late-night meetings because they loved it for you to be tired and worn out. And they love to pressure you and talk your ear off until you give in. That never worked— But it never worked for me. I was like, I don't give a fuck. I'll stay up all night long. Whatever you want to do. I'm a no. Just no. "So when they couldn't move me there, there was a group of us, I think there were 10 or 11 of us that— And we got called to the principal's office. We had to go to the White House. And, and it's like, oh, hey, hey, welcome in. You know, everybody's all chummy with me because I know every single one of them because I spent years with them campaigning all over the country. "Then we got brought in and they, they nicely put up all the chairs, like right in front of the Resolute Desk, right in front of it. And, well, I had no problem sitting in a chair in front of the President. I know the president. I was friends with the president. I helped him get elected. So naturally, I plop right down in a chair right in front of President Trump's desk. And so everybody files in, and then the President comes in and we do all the hellos and the niceties and yay. And all this stuff. And then we proceed to get yelled at. And it was mostly me that got yelled at the entire time over the Genius Act."

Jason Citron on the growth hack that got Discord its first few thousand users “We started working on [Discord] in January 2015, and within I’d say two months, some of our friends were very excited about it but we didn’t really have any users. It was pretty clear they wanted to use it, it just wasn’t exactly correct. We rebuilt the voice chat engine three times, for example. But I’d say within 3-4 months, we had 20 DAU that weren’t us.” However, as Jason explains, growth stalled after those first 20 users: “We were like, ‘How do we get the word out?’ Because everyone was actually very skeptical about a group chat app for gaming. People would say, ‘This is the dumbest idea ever, no one is going to use this.’ And even people who played games, many of them thought, ‘Why would I want this? I already have whatever app I’m using.’ And so we were having a hard time getting other people to try it.” Jason recalls a period of 3-4 weeks sitting around thinking, “We like this, but maybe no one else does.” Then they figured out their growth unlock: “The unlock for us was inviting people to give feedback on the app, as opposed to saying, ‘Try this thing out we’re selling to you.’ What we actually did was we went to the Final Fantasy 14 subreddit, and we got one of our friends to make a post on the subreddit basically saying, ‘Hey, I’m trying out this new voice over IP app. What do y’all think about it?’” Jason continues: “People found it on Reddit, clicked on that link, went into the server, and then they were talking to us and trying it out. And they went back to the subreddit and were like, ‘Hey, this is pretty cool. I met the devs. They seem pretty cool.’ We got 50 users that day from that post and then that 50 turned into 100 the next day and it sort of started to snowball. And then we did this playbook for six months and that was basically the beginning of how it started growing.” Video source: The Twenty Minute VC Harry Stebbings (2024)

All of California needs to see this New Candidate for Governor, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, answers the question “What does public safety in Bianco's California look like?” “I know we can do it. I know we have to do it. I will tell you this, there is a horrible consequence for going too far in one direction. And I gotta be honest with you, what happened in our political system, we have gone way too far towards socialism. And my fear is that we are going because of that pendulum swing, that it's going to go way too back too far the other way. In 2026. If I was the governor, I would ensure that that pendulum did not go past what was healthy for a strong economy, for a strong California or for a strong public safety. ‌ Public safety has been in decline for 30 years. There has to be more prisons. We have to completely get rid of all of the bad things. With Prop 47, all of our homeless issues that we have, stop calling them homeless. ‌ They're not homeless. They all had homes. They were kicked outta their homes because they're addicted to drugs, alcohol, and they were causing their families problems. And they, they kicked them out onto the streets. They have a drug induced psychosis problem that we seriously need to address. If we would force them into alcohol and drug rehabs to where we could then if they still have that chemical imbalance, then we could moderate that with the use of psychotropic medications and everything else, then we could truly fix these people. But as long as you just keep saying it's a homeless problem and just keep dumping money into these nonprofits that are really just extensions of political people and their friends that are siphoning money, laundering tax money into a nonprofit and calling it aid. ‌ I'm telling you, in that situation where I'm being sworn in, it's not just public safety. I truly am a believer that we are the greatest country in the world for a reason. And the last several decades, if not many decades, we've been in decline because we, we have allowed government, particularly California, New York, we have allowed government to become too big and they control our lives. The we, the people, the we, the Californians no longer have control of government. ‌ Government's going to tell us how we do things and when we do things, and they're not going to allow us to vote on something. There is something dreadfully wrong in our system when a part of government has grown so big and so one sided that we, we've lost track of what that government is there for. And that government is truly there for people. It's there for us to make, it's to facilitate us making our lives better. ‌ So there's our education system, our education, if you look at every metric in California, every metric that would, that would say, this is the greatest place in the world. We're about last or dead last. And if you look at all the things that, if you wanted to be the best in the world, these are the things you wouldn't do. We're about number one or number two, and we've completely gone opposite of what we should be doing for, for our residents, for me, and for you on how we can better our lives and better our families' lives. ‌ And the rules, the restrictions, the regulations, and now just the complete government control, the weaponization of government that is completely, completely at the direction, at the, at the guidance suggestion of the governor. And we unfortunately haven't had a good one in a long time. We've had a lot of firsts. We haven't had a lot of leaders. ‌ What I believe California is absolutely dying for and in dire need of is an honest person with character integrity that isn't gonna lie to them”
