A guy named Vladimir Romanyuk literally simulated the entire universe on a consumer PC. It is called SpaceEngine. Open it and you can leave Earth, pass the Moon, cross the Solar System, exit the Milky Way, and reach a galaxy billions of light-years away. The entire journey is seamless. I often think about the technical limitations that game designers of the 80s had to work with - both in terms of software and hardware. The game that stands at the very top is Elite. Think about this for a second: The core game code on the BBC Micro version occupied roughly 22 KB of memory. Now think about what Braben and Bell turned that into: a universe with eight galaxies, each containing 256 star systems (for a total of 2,048 planets/systems). Each system featured unique details: government type, economy, technology level, population, commodity prices, and even descriptive text (e.g., a planet known for "carnivorous arts graduates" or similar quirky combinations). If you still need a bit more help to contextualize that, try this: Elite was smaller than many modern text files or desktop icons, yet it contained (and let you freely explore) a multi-galaxy-spanning universe that felt vast and limitless. Oh, and by the way, the game also rendered 3D wireframe ships, stations, and planets in real time on a 2 MHz 6502 processor. This is no slight on today’s game designers. They work with what they have, and that's okay. But when you think about the worlds that some programmers created with the tools they were given, it sometimes breaks my brain trying to understand how they did it. Elite is a true masterpiece on so many levels. I played the C64 version back in the day, and even 40+ years later it still feels like one of the most incredible programming wonders ever.

5 facts you didn't know about Kung-Fu Master, the classic 1985 Commodore 64 game from Data East (Developed by Berkeley Softworks): 1) On level 1, you could hold down the Shift Key and G for a gun, as seen in the video. This only worked on level 1. 2) An add-on to the gun cheat: press Shift and G and stand still for 1 second to show "By Chris Hawley" and then reset to the start. 3) Chris Hawley never made another game. 4) The USA Floppy disk was a Flippy Disk. On one side was the Commodore 64 version and on the other (flip it over) had the Apple II version. 5) The game is loosely inspired by the Jackie Chan movie Wheels on Meals. Have you watched it, and do you see the similarity? Bonus fact: You may recognize the developer, Berkeley Softworks, from GEOS. This game and Karate Champ were the only two games they made before creating the very successful GEOS for the C64.

The Game Gear came out April 1991 in the US and was announced to be the 'Game Boy killer.' On paper, it was: - Full-color backlist screen (160x144, 4k colors) - Landscape aspect ratio as opposed to 4:3 - Accessories - Ability to play Master System games and had a TV tuner It sold decent at 10M units but this is dwarfed by the over 100M units sold of the Game Boy. Its main fault - battery life. With only 3-5 hours on SIX AA batteries, it was not very portable - you were forced to get an external rechargeable battery pack or plug into the wall. The Game Boy could go about 14 hours on 4 AA batteries - having a dead Game Gear when the Game Boy still had 9 hours left was a major downside. I had one as a kid (still have it) and I was underwhelmed by the games - eventually I realized it was a portable Master System and It lost most of its appeal to me.

He told me it was something you could put games on and actually play, and I remember staring at it all day, wondering if something that magical could really be possible. I followed him to a computer academy, and that was the first time I had ever seen a computer in my life. As a reward for bringing me in, he even got a whole box of floppy disks. That was the moment I first stepped into a completely new world. Despite its original release three years prior in 1993, it still dominated the charts, finishing ahead of Warcraft II, Civilization II, and Duke Nukem 3D. Yep, you read that correctly. Let that sink in. Yes, it looks dated now, but in 1993 (and still in 1996) it was pretty awesome. It played a huge role in popularizing CD-ROM drives, which gradually replaced the trusty 3.5-inch floppy disk. Games that once required a dozen floppies could now fit on a single CD, letting developers pack in far more content, especially higher-quality graphics (not always higher-quality gameplay though).

It was incredibly fun, and with support for up to four players, it was one of the best games to enjoy with friends. But did you know this? While the game was a huge hit in South Korea, it received a fairly lukewarm response in Japan and was released in very limited numbers in North America, making it virtually unknown there. Pretty strange, isn’t it? One of the reasons I loved this game was that, unlike most Irem titles, it wasn’t brutally difficult. You could have a great time with just a single credit. Most Irem games were known for their gritty atmosphere, incredibly detailed pixel art, and punishing difficulty. This one, however, stood out with its bright colors and cute, round character designs, giving it a completely different feel. If you’ve never played it before, do yourself a favor and try it on an emulator.

It could be as simple as a moving average cross over. But that is where people fall short. They only focus on nailing the entries. No one told them the most important part was holding onto the gains. And so you want to develop a stop loss system. It could just be using a generic trailing stop. An entry and a stop is a system. And any system will give you better results than just trading on emotion and what people say on X. Here is my method. My system. And how we are currently using it on Ethereum.

Due to low quality control and shovelware titles, the video game market was cooked. Nintendo wanted to change this stigma. Their system was not a video game console, it was an entire 'entertainment system.' The console was redesigned to work like a VCR, moving from a top loader to a front insertion slot, like a VCR. Accessories were also included - such as Rob the Robot - an add on that claimed hours of fun. Rob was a gimmick to sell consoles and Nintendo knew robots would sell the system - and it worked. If you ever played with Rob, you know just how horrid it was. 😫

🚨BREAKING: North Carolina teacher Zoe Welsh was tragically murdered by a career criminal. The attack might have been prevented if his four felony charges had not been reduced to a single misdemeanor.
