‼️Copy Fail (CVE-2026-31431) is a Linux privilege escalation bug that lets any local user get root using a 732-byte Python script, and itworks on basically every major Linux distro shipped since 2017. Website: Write-up: GitHub: It's a logic flaw in the kernel's crypto code (authencesn via AF_ALG and splice()) that allows a small write into the page cache, which can be used to tamper with a setuid binary like /usr/bin/su. Think how bad this is going to be for shared environments like Kubernetes, CI runners, and cloud sandboxes, where it enables container escape and tenant-to-host compromise. Found by Theori's Xint Code scanner, patched in the mainline kernel, and publicly disclosed on April 29, 2026; if you can't patch right away, the recommended workaround is to disable the algif_aead module.

Excited to share the KDA: Kernel Design Agents that powers HAN Lab Kernel Mafia top ranking #1~3 kernels at Kernel Contest🚀🚀🚀 Thanks to agents, everyone can be a "kernel bro" in 2026: By adapting the KDA, the team ranked #1 in MoE, #2 in DSA, and #3 in GDN in the Pure Agent track at MLSys FlashInfer Kernel Contest – especially given the fact that the main participant (dongyun zou) has only written ~400 LoC triton and 0 lines of CUDA in 2026. The core philosophy here is to leverage Humanize (the best harness framework) to let the agent run autonomously for as long as possible. By minimizing human involvement and input, and placing full trust in the agent, we can achieve kernel performance that nears SOTA levels. Most people use Linux every day. But Very few understand what actually happens after they press the power button. >>>Here’s the sequences Linux goes through before you get the login screen. Power button pressed → BIOS or UEFI initializes hardware and runs POST. Firmware locates the bootloader from disk. Bootloader loads the Linux kernel and initramfs into RAM. Kernel decompresses and takes control of the CPU. Memory management and the scheduler are initialized. Device drivers load to communicate with hardware. Temporary root filesystem mounts from initramfs. PID 1 starts as systemd and userspace begins. System services and daemons start in order. Login prompt or GUI becomes available. You run a command and it becomes a process with a PID. Process runs in user mode with limited privileges. When hardware access is needed, a system call is made. CPU switches from user mode to kernel mode. Kernel validates the request and executes through drivers. Result is returned back to user space. Scheduler continuously allocates CPU time across processes. Virtual memory isolates and protects processes. Filesystem manages data abstraction over storage. Network stack processes packets inside the kernel. Linux is the kernel coordinating hardware, processes, memory, and security through strict privilege control.

This is not what we Ukrainians would want to see from our windows in winter. It would be better if the voices and laughter of children making snowmen or playing snowballs echoed from the courtyards of residential areas. One could step out onto the balcony and watch that very scene while sipping a warm tea or coffee, rather than the sights we see now. You cannot distract yourself from thoughts of the war for long; it continues, and everything around us tries to remind us of that. Over the years, the brain tries to pretend it has adapted to everything happening around it - to what the ears hear and the eyes see, to the various situations that occur here every day. But sanity is always on guard, and an inner voice says without words: this is not a normal life for a human being; if only everything could return to the way it was before. But is it even possible to return to the life we had, carrying such an experience on our shoulders? … Now, in the "points of warmth," you can see beds. You might ask: are these for overnight stays? The beds are intended for people who need assistance in the event of an emergency or for medical reasons, as well as for temporary rest if a person is in need of it… but people are still forced to return to their apartments.
