Within just three days, mainstream media headlines repeatedly asserted that Iran’s security forces had killed approximately 30,000 of their own citizens during protests in early January. In early February, The Grayzone revealed the troubling origins of this exaggerated figure, which has since been accepted as fact. The narrative began with Amir Parasta, a German eye surgeon closely linked to self-proclaimed ‘Crown Prince’ Reza Pahlavi, and was further amplified by former Indian fashion blogger turned regime-change activist Deepa Parent through The Guardian. As Max Blumenthal of The Grayzone explained on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the relentless repetition of the “30,000” figure served several strategic purposes for the US and Israel. The narrative began with Amir Parasta, a German eye surgeon closely linked to self-proclaimed ‘Crown Prince’ Reza Pahlavi, and was further amplified by former Indian fashion blogger turned regime-change activist Deepa Parent through The Guardian. As Max Blumenthal of The Grayzone explained on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the relentless repetition of the “30,000” figure served several strategic purposes for the US and Israel. It minimized the gravity of the over 80,000 named and documented Palestinians killed in Israel’s genocide in Gaza by implying that Iran had committed a similar scale of killings in just a few days. Additionally, it desensitized reactionary monarchists within the Iranian diaspora and the broader Western public to the ongoing massacre now being carried out directly by US and Israeli military strikes.

In leaked audio obtained by The Grayzone from an off the record session at the 2025 Congressional Summit of AIPAC, the CEO Elliott Brandt describes top national security Trump administration officials as ‘lifelines’ for his company which is the biggest lobbying group for Israel in the US. Brandt details in the leaked audio that the group has access and influence with key figures in the administration, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Director Mike Waltz, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe due to cultivating relationships with them in recent years.
