Béla Tarr on how the concept of time works in "Sátántangó" (1994): "Interviewer: Did you have any problems when you first wanted to make the film in the ‘80s? How did you start work on the film? Tarr: It was mostly a political problem. We couldn't start in the ‘80s because of censorship from the communist government at the time, but by the early ‘90s it became possible to do it and it took four years to do, from 1990 to 1994. You have to understand. This man [Lázsló] was living in the Hungarian lowlands, and he saw a lot of things in the reality of how people were living, and of course he transformed it and created this beautiful novel. I understood when I started working on this project that I cannot do any kind of adaptation. I had to go back to the Hungarian lowlands, like him. I had to see how life is going on out there, and I had to find the film language, I had to figure out how I can get the same stuff that he did in the novel. By the end, I spent two years in the Hungarian lowlands filming, I can tell you I know all the houses, I know all f***ing roads, I know everything in this part of the country. By the end of my time there I could find the way to film and afterwards we could use the dramaturgical structure of the novel, and of course we did not have a script, we had only the novel and my vision. That's all we had. Interviewer: What about the sense of time that you found in that place? Tarr: Hey man, if you are sitting in the Hungarian lowlands, I'm sure it's the same in the desert in, let's say, Arizona, when you are out there: there is no time, no distance anymore, you can go hours, weeks, and you don't see anything. In case you missed yet another gem from AIR INDIA — An Air India Express aircraft departing from Oman to Kannur mistook the runway edge lights for the lights on the centre of the runway and started to take-off from the edge of the runway on May 15, damaging multiple runway edge lights. The crew aborted the take-off only after a cockpit alert and a loud bang inside the aircraft. The accident also caused a hydraulic leak and a flat tyre, leaving the aircraft disabled and grounded. Carlos: Nothing, I think I just got squeezed by Lewis on the outside, some cars on the inside, I had nowhere to go and yeah, that compromised my race because I lost the front wing there, a big part of the front wing and from there, I was struggling with a lot of understeer in the car and a lot of front deg which made me slower than what we could have been today. Yeah, and also a bit of a slow pit stop at the beginning and you start adding the things up and when you see we are a couple of seconds away from the points, you always wonder what it could have been.

You see your peers and you see other guys that you're just as good as, if not better than, and they get to just have a lot of fun. Interestingly, as we have AI agents that run in the background, the speed of AI becomes incrementally less important than the core underlying capability level. When you could only give AI small bits of work, then the speed of response mattered a ton. The rate at which you can go back and forth with AI in real-time was the determining factor on how useful it is. But as AI agents can perform more complex and useful tasks in parallel behind the scenes, you can much more easily afford to wait longer for work to get done assuming it’s valuable. Now the focus becomes more on how you review and orchestrate the agents’ work. And the main factor is just how useful and usable is the output that the agent came back with.

No license plate, but somehow the cop is the problem for pulling you over. So naturally, you catch an attitude, mouth off, record it, and post the video expecting everyone to tell you how wrong the officer was. This isn’t harassment. It’s a traffic stop. Amazing how difficult some of you people can make the simplest situation. I hope they towed the car and handed you a nice stack of tickets to go with the video.

I vibe coded an application with Gemini 3 that let's you pick up a pencil and actually start drawing on a piece of paper. The assets are 3D which adds another layer of immersion just purely for fun. Try it here You can't start drawing until you literally click on the pencil to pick it up. You can also switch to a marker or use the eraser on the pencil. If you don't like the drawing you can crumple the paper and throw it in the trash. It will then place a new piece of paper on the table and you have to pick up the pencil again to start drawing again. I added a learn section on the app that links to youtube channels where you can also learn how to draw. It's quite fun to use, it's basically like using a super simplified version of photoshop or paint. It works with a wacom tablet, just can't seem to figure out how to get pressure sensitivity enabled.

I got a smart meter recently and saw you can download a HDF file with the data so I had the idea of writing a script that could parse that and show the data in a useful manner. However I discovered that someone has already done this and done a really good job on it. The video explains how it works. In simple terms it uses the ESB smart meter data and shows a breakdown of how much data you are using and when and also recommends plans and estimates what each one would cost based on the data. The tool is available at easier to read on Laptop or Tablet or then your phone to Landscape.

But first, let's start with this idea of a joint venture between the largest U.S. telecom providers to add space-enabled connectivity. How will you play in that? Well, I think that's an effort to make, to divide connectivity to every American. And I basically make it in a way that is standard, available in every device, in every phone, for every carrier. And for that, that's great. It's great news, and now every American can get our service. Can you share any details in terms of that relationship and the role you'll play in it? Well, I think we are the only broadband system that is available in terms of technology to basically do hundreds of megabits per second directly to any device. This is a change of how the operators think about where the connectivity from space plays a role in your day-to-day usage of the technology. And I believe this is great news for us. We are a key enabler for this. We invented this. We did the first voice call over satellite, the first 5G connection over satellite, the first broadband connection over satellite. And just a few weeks back, we demonstrated close to 100 megabits per second for a space directly to your phone. And that's very, very unique and a very nice position to be in as we work to transform how people connect. Yeah, I want to get into that a little bit more here in just a moment. You also recently released earnings, maintained full-year revenue guidance. The thing that investors really focus on is these Bluebird satellites and how quickly you can build them and deploy them. I mean, we did see that Blue Origin, New Glenn rocket launch that ultimately ended in a failure to deploy your satellites in the correct positions and to be able to start operating and working. 45 satellites is still your plan for this year. What does that look like? It is, and we're on target. Today, we're shipping the next batch of satellites to the launch pad. We have launches approximately every month. And now it's opening. I mean, we have multiple launch providers as partners, including SpaceX. And we are very excited about what will happen during the year in terms of launches and in terms of multiple launches that we have multiple partners for doing that. Yeah, speaking of SpaceX, I was just in Alaska over the weekend, and it's incredible. You go to parts of the wilderness above the Arctic Circle. There's no roads. In some cases, there's no running water, but there is Starlink. So how do you think about this competitive landscape and this competitive environment when Starlink is looking to do direct-to-device as well? And then, of course, you have Amazon's Leo buying GlobalStar. Yeah. I think it's all revolved about the speed and capacity that you can get into the phone. What has changed the transformation that is happening in the wireless industry is that space is not just when you're in the middle of nowhere. It's when you're driving from here to the Hamptons and when your connectivity is not as good as you expected. So broadband will make a difference, making it available to absolutely every device without any change to the device and really get hundreds of megabits per second into the device. For that, you need a spectrum. You need satellites. And more importantly, you need large satellites because that's really where the tricks happen is physics. You need large satellites that have the ability to listen to the very small power that a small device putting going up to space. And that's what we have. We have over 3,800 patents and patent-bending claims on how to do that. That's what we have demonstrated. And what we're showing, we're showing up today. It's not a future demonstration. What has changed the transformation that is happening in the wireless industry is that space is not just when you're in the middle of nowhere. It's when you're driving from here to the Hamptons and when your connectivity is not as good as you expected. So broadband will make a difference, making it available to absolutely every device without any change to the device and really get hundreds of megabits per second into the device. For that, you need a spectrum. You need satellites. And more importantly, you need large satellites because that's really where the tricks happen is physics. You need large satellites that have the ability to listen to the very small power that a small device putting going up to space. And that's what we have. We have over 3,800 patents and patent-bending claims on how to do that. That's what we have demonstrated. And what we're showing, we're showing up today. It's not a future demonstration.
